Tates Creek opened their season with a win, lost two games in a row, but rebounded last week with a victory over Marion County.  As usual, Tates Creek has a reliable stable of running backs, led so far this season by Brian WilliamsonZach Jones, Daniel Covington, and Eric Choat have led the Commodore defense through the first four games. 

Dunbar lost their season opener but have rebounded to post three decisive victories in a row.  The Bulldogs have been led on offense by RB Bobby Vyverberg, with 369 yards on the ground and QB Chris Franklin, who has passed for 566 yards and eight touchdowns. 

Tates Creek raced out to a 20-0 first half lead and held off a Dunbar rally to take a 20-13 victory.  Tates Creek got off to a fast start as Kenzale Bell ran for a 76 yard TD to give the Commodores a 6-0 lead with 10:39 remaining in the first period.  Brad Willoughby scored on two one yard runs in the second period as Tates Creek extended their lead to 20-0 at the half. 

Dunbar's Ron Jordan scored on a five yard run to pull the Bulldogs to within 13, 20-7, with 3:58 remaining in the third quarter.  QB Chris Franklin scored on a one yard run to make the score 21-13 with 9:25 left in the game.  Dunbar actually drove the ball to the Tates Creek 26 yard line but Chris Franklin's final pass of the game was broken up in the end zone as time expired.

Dunbar held a 340-277 lead in total offense.  Dunbar had two passes intercepted and lost two fumbles while Tates Creek played relatively errorless football.  The Bulldogs were penalized five times for 29 yards while Tates Creek was flagged four times for 29 yards.  Tates Creek maintained a narrow 25:43-22:17 advantage in possession time. 

Tates Creek was led on the ground tonight by Jr. speedster Kenzale Bell with 151 yards and a score on 15 carries.  Brad Willoughby added 59 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries and Brian Williamson added 52 yards on 18 rushing attempts.  Tim Riley led the Commodore defense with three solo and six assisted tackles.  Zach Jones added five solo and three assisted tackles, while B. Singleton recorded two solo and six assisted tackles.  Daniel Covington had a big evening with eight assisted tackles and two interceptions. 

Dunbar was led on the ground by Bobby Vyverberg, who carried the ball 22 times for 111 yards.  Ron Jordan added 104 yards on 11 carries.  Chris Franklin completed eight of 23 passes for 96 yards with two passes intercepted.  Franklin also carried the ball six times for 31 yards and a score.  Keith Bailey caught four passes for 59 yards.  Dan Tyler led the Bulldog defense with five solo and five assisted tackles.  Casey Dunn added four solo and six assisted tackles, while Slade Halvaksz recorded two solo and six assisted stops.
