Boyd County (1-1) vs. Lafayette (1-1) September 3, 2004

Coach Dane Damron's Boyd County Lions opened their season with a 42-0 victory over Mongtomery County but lost 42-29 to Spring Valley WV in their last outing.  Lafayette opened their season with a 14-12 loss to Eastern but rebounded last week with a 7-0 shutout of West Jessamine.  The Generals have moved the ball well but have had trouble reaching the end zone. 

Coach Mike Harmon's Lafayette Generals utilized an opportunistic defense intercepting three passes on their way to a 22-8 victory over Boyd County.  The game was scoreless until Lafayette took a 7-0 lead with 5:02 remaining in the second quarter, on a two yard TD run by Enrique Shaw and a conversion kick by Kevin Minke.  The Generals reached the end zone again with 16 seconds remaining in the half on a 20 yard TD pass from Jered Patrick to Demario RichardsonKevin Minke kicked the extra point to make the score 14-0 at the half. 

Jared Leedy returned an interception six yards for a score and Eric Heathman passed to Tony Rawlings for a two point conversion to give Lafayette a 22-0 lead midway through the third quarter.  Boyd County scored on a nine yard run by Derek Jackson to make the score 22-8.  Lafayette then chewed up 7:13 of the clock on a time consuming drive before they turned the ball over to Boyd County on downs with 4:05 remaining on the clock.  The Lions had one more chance as Austin Hunter completed a 55 yard pass to Tyler Harton, who was run down on the Lafayette 18 yard line.  Boyd County was unable to advance, and Lafayette took over on downs and ran out the clock. 

Lafayette held a 305-239 advantage in total offense and their ballhawking defense recorded three interceptions.  Jered Patrick completed 14 of 24 passes for 180 yards with one TD pass and one interception.  Jonny Meyer caught five passes for 69 yards, while Tony Rawlings led the ground attack with 62 yards on 19 carries.  Jared Leedy recorded seven solo and one tackle plus his interception return for a TD. 

Austin Hunter led Boyd County on the ground tonight with 81 yards on 11 carries.  Hunter completed nine of 20 passes for 81 yards but was intercepted three times.  John Kazee led the Lions defense with six solo tackles including two for losses of eight yards.
