Lafayette (3-1) vs. Bryan Station (1-3) September 20, 2002

Lafayette coach Mike Harmon has successfully alternated Sr. Justin Albrecht and Jr. Brian Dinger at quarterback on their way to a 3-1 start this season.  5-9 223 pound Sr. RB Elrazor Sharp has rushed for 727 yards and eight touchdowns this season.  The Generals are ranked tenth in the state in rushing, averaging 313.3 yards per game.  Lafayette's Jr. defensive end 6-4 192 pound Bilal El-Amin had an excellent game last week in a loss to Mason County.

Coach Norm Powell's Bryan Station Defenders have talent but they have suffered from 16 turnovers in their first four games.  Bryan Station defeated Louisville Christian last week and was fumble-free.  They also got an excellent defensive effort from 5-11 215 pound Sr. LB Darrell Brooks.  6-1 232 pound Sr. RB/DL Markeith Gillis missed last week's game with a bruised foot and could be a big boost to Bryan Station on both sides of the ball if he is able to perform tonight.

Lafayette pulled away from a 7-7 halftime tie to defeat Bryan Station 21-7 in a game which started 15 minutes late due to lightning and heavy rain.  The first quarter was scoreless but Lafayette QB Brian Dinger got his team on the board in the second quarter with a 28 yard TD run.  Bryan Station tied the game on an eight yard TD pass from Chris Evans to Darrell Brooks and a successful conversion.  It was all Lafayette in the second half as they scored on a Michael Murray 23 yard TD run in the third quarter and a two yard run by Elrazor Sharp in the final period.

Lafayette held a 247-131 yard edge in total offense.  Unfortunately for Bryan Station the turnover "bug" returned as they lost two fumbles and had one pass intercepted for the evening.  Lafayette was led tonight by Elrazor Sharp who carried the ball 22 times for 92 yards and one score.  Spencer Fain caught three passes for 51 yards.  Markeith Gillis led Bryan Station with 87 yards on 11 carries, with 77 of the yards coming on eight carries in the first half.
