Bourbon County (5-1) vs. Lexington Catholic (4-1) October 4, 2002

This will be a game of contrasts, matching the ground attack of Bourbon County against the aerial attack of Lexington Catholic.  Coach Chuke Williams' Bourbon County Colonels average 351.7 yards per game on the ground to rank second in the state in that category.  RB Robert Christopher has rushed for 194.8 yards per game and 13 touchdowns so far this season.  Bourbon County lost their season opener but has notched five consecutive victories since. 

Lexington Catholic has been led this year by QB Jacob Doss who has passed for 205.2 yards per game and has totaled 13 TD passes.  Speedy John Logan is a threat to go the distance every time he touches the ball.  Coach Bob Sphires' defense has been led by linebackers Kevin Lattner, Logan Tweardy, and Brandon Logan

Lexington Catholic utilized a four touchdown pass performance by QB Jacob Doss and took advantage of four fumble recoveries to defeat Bourbon County by a score of 49-18.  Bourbon County took a 6-0 lead on a Zach Favorite eight yard TD reception from Robert Christopher.  Catholic took a 7-6 lead on a 52 yard run by John Logan and conversion by Tripp Eckerline.  Lexington Catholic took a 21-6 lead at the end of the first quarter on their way to victory. 

This was a night of milestones for Lexington Catholic.  They notched their 100th win in their 12 year football history.  Jacob Doss extended his own consecutive game record for throwing TD passes to 32 games.  Catholic kicker Tripp Eckerline broke his own record for consecutive PATs by notching number 71.  He had set the previous record of 70 but that ended early last season. 

The breakdown of the stats was interesting as Lexington Catholic held a 434-379 edge in total offense.  Lexington Catholic had 141 yards on the ground and 293 yards through the air.  Bourbon County had possession of the ball for 35:41 while Lexington Catholic was on offense for 12:19.  Catholic was led by QB Jacob Doss who completed 12 of 19 passes for 273 yards and four touchdowns.  Matt Beavin caught eight passes for 138 yards and three touchdowns.  The defense was led by Brandon Logan and Kevin LattnerLogan had eight solo and eight assisted tackles while Lattner added six solo and eight assisted tackles.  Bourbon County's QB Shane True rushed for 127 yards and a TD on 14 carries while Robert Christopher carried the ball 29 times for 110 yards.
