Boyle County coach Chuck Smith’s team arrives at the championship game with a 29 game winning streak and taking dead aim on their second consecutive state championship. The Rebels have crushed all opposition with only Lexington Catholic playing them close the entire year. Boyle County defeated Catholic by scores of 16-14 and 18-16. Boyle County has been led on the ground this year by 6-0 202 pound Sr. RB Matt Quinn who has carried the ball 230 times for 1709 yards and an eye-popping 34 touchdowns. QB Jeff Duggins has completed 123 of 188 passes for 2028 yards and 31 scoring strikes. Boomer Johnson caught 41 passes for 693 yards and eight touchdowns. Matt Miller added 38 receptions for 839 yards and fifteen touchdowns. Taylor Begley has kicked 16 field goals and 92 PATs. 6-4 261 pound Sr. Travis Leffew has anchored both the offensive and defensive lines.
Coach Jerry Eubank is looking forward to a rematch of the 1999 title game and is hoping to reverse the outcome as his Glasgow team lost 29-6 last year. Randy Depp led the Glasgow ground attack with 1849 yards on 244 carries while Jason Huffman added 1035 yards on 114 rushing attempts. QB Ty Bowles completed 41 of 79 passes for 572 yards and 8 touchdowns. Tony Bailey led the receiving core with 16 catches for 213 yards and 6 scores.
Boyle County’s Matt Miller returned the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown, setting the tone for a Boyle County 38-6 rout of Glasgow for their second consecutive title. There were stars galore today for Boyle County. Matt Quinn carried the pigskin 18 times for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Matt Miller caught a 27 yard TD reception to complement his KO return. 6-4 260 lineman Travis Leffew had an excellent game and kicker Taylor Begley set records for both extra points in a season (97) and career extra points (183). Randy Depp lead Glasgow today with 142 rushing yards and one score.
