Native Wildflowers in My Backyard Habitat

I've always wanted to have a native garden and finally delved into it upon moving to the country. I have to say, it's a whole different look, I love the wild and free form of it. It's amazing the bees and other insects you will see compared to hybrid perennials. The caterpillars I found was not like anything I've seen before. Then to top it off, the hummingbirds adored it, and in the winter the birds are enjoying the fruits of my labor. Most everything in my native garden has been started by seeds. It's a learning experience and I've found it's not as daunting as it may seem when you start researching it. I've found that many things will grow even if it says it prefers one type of soil or it's dislikes as far as wetness. I also started many types of grasses. I'm so hooked now I want to try everything I can get my hands on! This was my first year and the majority of things even flowered. I attribute it to a process called "wintersowing". It's a means of sowing seeds outdoors during the cold months of winter. I encourage you to try it not only for natives but all perennials, often blooming their first year from seed.
