The GLAD Family Resource Center School Supply Drive

The supplies are for children whose parents cannot afford to purchase the supplies themselves. We have agreed to do a collection at GRCC. The supplies will be delivered to Sandy Alward who will distribute them to local family resource centers to distribute to children throughout Muhlenberg County.

The GLAD Family Resource Center Coat Drive

In October the Green River Chapter of the Kentucky Council on Crime & Delinquency hosts a coat drive at Green River Correctional Complex. Members of KCCD and the staff of Green River Correctional Complex donate mens, womens and childrens coats. In November the coats are donated to Sandy Alward of the Muhlenberg County Family Youth Services Center to distribute to families in Muhlenberg County.

Santa’s Helpers Food & Toy Drive

The chapter sponsors a food and toy drive during November to help brighten the holiday season for families in the community. The Chapter places barrels in the reception area of building A and building B at Green River Correctional Complex. Members of KCCD and the staff of Green River Correctional Complex place toys and non-perishable food in the barrels. Then, the food and toys are donated to a local family resource center.

March of Dimes Fund Drive

Members raise funds for the March of Dimes during April and May of each year. Fundraisers include a shift challenge, shoe sales, a yard sale, and walker donations. A representative from each shift at Green River Correctional Complex collects donations. All three shifts compete to see which shift will donate the largest amount of money. Paper shoes are sold at the reception desks in building A and building B. Members and the staff of GRCC buy shoes for "someone they love" which is usually their children, grandchildren, etc. They place the person’s name on the shoe and it is posted in the reception area for staff and visitors to view. Members and staff donated clothes, shoes, household items etc. for the yard sale. The yard sale was held at Harold Radford’s place of residence. Members and staff sign up to walk at the annual March of Dimes Walk-A-Thon in Muhlenberg County. Walkers collect donations.

Muhlenberg County Children’s Fund

In February and March of 2000 members sold candy bars to raise money for the Muhlenberg County Children’s Fund. The chapter was able to raise a total of $250.00 for this fund. The children’s fund assists families with medical bills, provides a network of doctors who will provide medical treatment at no cost to the family in some cases, and buys medical equipment for children. In addition, this fund purchases books, learning games, video games, and other items for the local hospital so children who are admitted in the hospital have something to help them pass the time during their stay.

Correctional Employee’s Week

In March the chapter holds a Silent Auction at Green River Correctional Complex. The chapter gives the entire profit to the Staff Canteen at Green River Correctional Complex. The Staff Canteen used the money to help fund Correctional Employee’s Week. A week in which staff at Green River Correctional Complex receive special meals, have a cook out, have tournaments (golf, basketball, volleyball etc.), receive years of service pins, time and attendance awards, Employee of the Year award, and Supervisor of the Year award. In addition, door prize drawings are held all week long.

Muhlenberg County Children’s Fund

Members of the Kentucky Council on Crime and Delinquency sold items from a Christmas brochure to raise money for the Muhlenberg County Children’s Fund. The chapter was able to raise a total of $250.00 for this fund. On December 17, 2001 Harold Radford, President of KCCD, presented the check to Dr. Mary Webb Brown.
