A History of the Berkley Reunion

The first Berkley family reunion was held in 1928 at the Berkley farm in Grayson County. All of the children of James A. Berkley and Margaret (Ford) Berkley and their respective families attended.Due to the Depression and World War II, another reunion was not held until 1955. That one was held at the home of Everett and Lillian Quiggins, who lived near the Berkley home place. Reunions have been held at many places over the years, including Kentucky Lake, Michigan and Grayson Co., KY. Since 1982, the reunion has been held at the farm of Earl and Lucille Berkley in Bowling Green, KY.

The date of the reunion has traditionally been Labor Day weekend, but that was changed at some time in the 1960s to the last Sunday in July. This change was made in honor of Emma (Berkley) Landrum, the last surviving child of James A. Berkley. In the 1970s, after the death of Emma Landrum, the date was once again changed to Labor Day weekend.

The 2006 Reunion
We had an attendance of 76 this year. The oldest person present was Josephine (Berkley) Owens, sister of Earl Berkley. This year the youngest was Brandon Timothy Tibbs, Jr., grandson of Billy and Donna Berkley. The farthest traveled was Chuck Bryant from California, son of Ida(Howard) Bryant. Thanks to Earl and Lucille Berkley for allowing us to have the reunion at their farm.
