Chapter 48It was the day before the girls were leaving to go on their tour over in Germany and Kristen had made an appointment so go see Dr. Miller since she would be gone for a little over two months. "AJ what if something happens in Germany and I lose the baby?" Kristen asked worriedly as they sat in the waiting room of the hospital.
"For the last two weeks this is all you talk about. What's going to happen if I lose the baby?" AJ asked mocking Kristen.
"I'm so glad you find this amusing."
"I'm not it's just the time you spend worrying about it is time we could use to name him."
"Him? Why not her?"
"We've been through this before with the chromosome thing. Want me to explain again?"
"No, but if we do have a girl, you're not going to be upset about it are you?"
"Of course not," AJ said pulling Kristen towards him and giving her a quick kiss.
"McLean," the nurse called and AJ and Kristen got up and walked towards her. "Dr. Miller will be with you in a few minutes," she said leading them to a room then leaving.
"Kristen, I just saw you two weeks ago," Dr. Miller said walking into the room looking at her clipboard. "You're not scheduled for another month or so."
"I know but I'm leaving on tour tomorrow and I won't be able to come in until I get back. I want to leave and know that everything is okay without worrying."
"She'll be worrying anyways," AJ said.
"You're the father right?" she asked and motioned for Kristen to hop up on the table and lift her shirt up.
"Yes ma'am, that would be me."
"Thought so. My daughter is a huge Backstreet Boys fan and she had a little fit when you got married. She bought some magazine that had you two on the cover and was filled with all sorts of things," she said wiping the gel stuff on Kristen's stomach.
"I hate this stuff! It's so cold!" Kristen yelled. "And that magazine was twisting the complete truth around," Kristen said remembering it being the one Cassie went to a publisher and told him all sorts of things so they could get a magazine out about it all.
“I suppose the wonderful world of fame isn’t so wonderful then?”
“It definitely has it’s down sides,” AJ said.
“Well Kristen, everything is perfectly fine,” she said handing her a towel so she could wipe her stomach off. “I suggest you take extra good care of yourself while touring since you’ll be on the road most of the time. Meaning eat healthy and no McDonald’s or any other fast food every day. I know how these tours work.”
“Ouch,” AJ said about the comment of no McDonald’s every day. “This is what makes me even more glad I’m not the female in this relationship right now.”
“Thanks a lot AJ,” Kristen said sarcastically.
“Also don’t over work yourself with dancing. I advise that when you’re doing sound checks that you only sing then at night you can do all the dancing.”
“So if I just eat healthy and I don’t over do it I should be okay?”
“Should be. But you really need to take it extra easy considering your body has a hard time holding a baby through a full term pregnancy. What day will you be back?”
“December 3.”
“Okay, I’m going to schedule you another appointment on December 4 so I will see you then and don’t forget either.”
“I won’t, thank you very much,” Kristen said as they left.
“Are you happier now since you know everything is alright?” AJ asked in the car.
“I won’t be completely happy until I have this baby and I know he’s one hundred percent healthy.”
“He’s? See you know it’s going to be a boy,” AJ said with a smile on his face.
“Don’t get your hopes up. No one in my family ever has boys. Our whole family is girls unless they are married in.”
“Well it can change with your generation. Where do you want to go for lunch?”
“Olive Garden. I’m in the mood for Italian plus it’s not usually really busy during lunch so we can eat in peace.”
“Sounds good to me.” About fifteen minutes later they pulled in the parking lot then were seated in the restaurant. “Is Jasmine upset since Howie won’t be going with you three on tour?”
“I wouldn’t exactly say she was upset, rather depressed. She’s never left the country before and she wanted to go site seeing in Germany with him.”
“She knows there will be other times right?”
“I know but I also think she’s a little worried because she’s the one who tries and gets the group together before concerts and when Howie’s there he takes the weight off her shoulders. She’ll be on her own now.”
“Then you and Mandy should help her out.”
“That’s like saying you should help the guys out when you’re on tour.”
“Good point,” AJ said.
“When’s the new Backstreet Boys album coming out anyways?”
“Few weeks. We’re going to finish recording the last song tomorrow morning then the completed CD will be sent off so millions more can be made.”
“AJ I know you have the CD to finish, photo shoots to do, and tons of promotions, but I need to hear from you everyday. Whether I call you or you call me so please keep your cell phone charged and on you at all times.”
“And you don’t think I’ll be calling you every hour to see how you’re doing?” AJ asked sarcastically. “Oh, I have a little surprise for you.”
“What?” Kristen asked curiously.
“Since Nick is going to so busy he’ll probably hardly be at home and you girls will be really busy on tour, I bought Toni a plane ticket to go with you.”
“Really!?!” Kristen asked excitedly.
“Yeah. Mandy and Jasmine will be just as busy as you are and they might not be able to be there every time you need them. This way you’ll always have Toni with you to talk to and watch out for you.”
“You are aware that I can watch out for myself aren’t you?”
“I know but with Toni with you I won’t worry as much about you. Plus she won’t be so lonely since she would have been home alone without Nick.”
“Honestly are you just as scared as I am?” Kristen asked looking him straight in the eye.
“Twice as scared. I have you to worry about and even though I know this baby will be okay that doesn’t keep me from worrying.”
“Why does it seem that you’re so strong about it then?”
“Because I have to be.” After they finished eating AJ drove over to Sears.
“What are we doing here may I ask?” Kristen asked walking with AJ inside holding onto his hand.
“I’m going to buy a video camera. Kevin has always had one around so I didn’t ever think about getting one but now we really need it.” After looking through the electronics for awhile they finally picked one out then AJ grabbed about ten of the small recording tapes for it.
“Why so many?”
“Because you’re taking this on tour and I want Toni to record everything you do.”
“You’re kidding me right?” Kristen asked disbelievingly.
“No, I want to see how big your stomach starts getting.”
“Thanks a lot,” Kristen said sarcastically. “But speaking of that, I want to get some overalls. My stomach is going to start showing in the clothes I have while in Germany and I won’t have your clothes to steal like before.”
“You stole my clothes?” AJ asked.
“Yeah, got a problem with that?”
“Nope not at all.” She bought three pairs of overalls all with different designs on them before they went back home so Kristen could pack. AJ got up at three-thirty the next morning and got ready before waking Kristen up at four. He gently shook her then had her hand fly at him and smack him in the face. He rubbed his face then went into the bathroom and got a small cup of semi-cold water then went back in the bedroom and went to dump it on Kristen to get her up.
“Don’t even think about it,” Kristen said tiredly with her eyes still closed.
“Baby you need to get up,” AJ said laying down next to her wrapping his arms around her and holding her close.
“It’s too early.”
“I know but your flight leaves at six and you need to be there an hour early and you still have to get ready. Now come on,” AJ said getting up and pulling the blanket off her and helping her out of bed.
“Go make me about four cappuccinos please.”
“I’ll go make you breakfast but you can’t have cappuccinos for awhile remember?”
“This sucks,” Kristen said going into the bathroom to take a shower. When she was ready AJ put her bags in the car then they drove to Nick’s house to pick up Toni. AJ got out of the car and went and rang the doorbell.
“You know this is way too fucking early for any normal person to be up and ready to go,” Toni said opening the door.
“Well good at least you and Kristen can be grouchy together. Where’s Nick?”
“His dumbass went back to bed. Nick get your ass up!” she then yelled letting her voice ring through the house.
“Okay now,” AJ said sarcastically to himself. “I’ll just put your bags in the car,” he said grabbing her bags that were sitting by the door. A few seconds later nick came down the stairs in boxers and a wife beater and put his arms around Toni from behind. She turned around in his embrace as he pressed his lips against hers.
“I’ll see you in a few months. I love you.”
“I love you too, bye Nicky,” Toni said leaving.
“Now that was a change of attitude,” AJ said letting Toni in the car through the driver’s side.
“Shut up AJ. How’s my favorite pregnant twin?” Toni asked Kristen who was practically half dead in the passenger seat. Kristen just glared at her. When they arrived at the airport they met up with the Jasmine, Howie, Mandy, Dallas, the stage crew etc. Howie and Dallas were there to see off their girls and Howie wasn’t exactly too thrilled to see Dallas there. After they all got their bags checked in they went to the gate. When they called for first class passengers which was where the four girls seats were Kristen burst into tears.
“Come here baby,” AJ said wrapping his arms around her and holding her close as she cried. “You’ll only be gone a few months, it’s not that long of a time and I’ll be waiting right here when you get back.”
“AJ I can’t do this without you,” Kristen said standing up on her toes as she wrapped her arms around AJ’s neck and pulling herself closer to him.
“I’ll still be with you just not physically.”
“That doesn’t work for me! As soon as I come back you’ll probably be leaving on a world tour for your new album or something!” Kristen yelled through tears. Kristen stood there not letting go of AJ until all passengers except her and Toni were on the plane and the flight attendant gave a last boarding call.
“Kristen we have to go,” Toni said waiting for her.
“I love you more than life itself,” AJ whispered in Kristen’s ear. “You’ll be fine, I promise. It’s only a few months but you have to leave now.” Kristen pulled away a little so she good kiss AJ before leaving his embrace and walking with Toni onto the plane. AJ stood there with tears in his eyes. He knew it was only a few months but with Kristen being pregnant it seemed like an eternity for him. He stood there for a few seconds praying to God that nothing bad would happen to the baby or Kristen.
