Chapter 31
"Howie something's wrong," Kristen said crying.
"Alright I'll be in your room in a second," Howie said getting out of bed and slipping his pants on and a wife beater.
"You're going to have to get a key. I'm afraid to get out of bed," Kristen said crying hysterically.
"Okay I'm gonna hang up and I'll be there in a minute." Howie hung up the phone and took the elevator and flew into the lobby to get a key to Kristen's room. He then took the elevator back upstairs and ran to Kristen's room and unlocked it going in to see what was wrong. "Oh my God," Howie said running to the bed. He saw Kristen with a tear streaked face laying in blood that was on the bed. "I'm calling an ambulance," Howie said reaching for the phone when Kristen stopped him.
"Don't. I probably just started my period or something," Kristen said with her voice a little shaky.
"Kristen I took sex ed. in high school. I do remember being taught that when a female is pregnant she doesn't have a period for the nine months of her pregnancy."
"Some girls do. Maybe I'm one that does."
"I know I'm a guy and I have no idea how much a girl actually bleeds but Kristen that is a lot of blood. And if you were on your period you wouldn't call me crying your eyes out and you wouldn't be shaking like crazy." Howie was trying his hardest to remain calm even though he knew something was definitely wrong. "Now don't argue with me. I'm calling an ambulance."
"Please don't call an ambulance. Just take me yourself. I don't want to make a scene. Please Howie," Kristen begged through tears. Howie gave in knowing he had to get Kristen to the hospital and didn't have time to argue with her. He called the front desk and had them call a taxi to meet them out front as soon as possible. Then he went into the bathroom and grabbed some towels so blood wouldn't get everywhere and he wrapped her in them.
"Wrap your arms around my neck," Howie said as picked her up off the bed.
"I'm getting blood on your clothes."
"I don't care." He left the hotel room and as fast as he could carrying Kristen he got on the elevator, went downstairs, and out of the hotel to get in a waiting cab. The whole way to the hospital Kristen was sitting in Howie's lap and he was holding her as if she were a little child. Howie began getting really worried and scared when Kristen began clutching onto him digging her nails into his skin and she wouldn't stop bleeding. "You're going to be okay. I think we're almost there," he said holding onto her tighter. What he didn't know was that Kristen was slowly beginning to loose consciousness until he felt her loosening her grip on him. "Kristen please hold on a little longer," Howie said with tears in his eyes. He had no idea what was wrong with Kristen that was making her bleed so much which was causing her to nearly pass out. A few minutes later the taxi pulled up to the emergency entrance way of the hospital and got out and opened the door for Howie. Howie ran into the hospital with a barely conscious and limp Kristen in his arms.
"What happened?" the nurse asked Howie as she called for a doctor to come to the front with one of the rolling beds.
"I don't know. She called me and told me something was wrong so I went to her hotel and there was blood where she was laying in bed. It's like she's on her period but won't stop bleeding."
"Is she pregnant?" the doctor asked going up to them overhearing what Howie said.
"Yeah she is."
"How far along is she?"
little over three months I think. Why?" Howie asked worriedly.
Just lay her down on the bed please," the doctor said as he put a breathing mask on her to help her breath if she lost consciousness. Then the doctor and two nurses pushed the bed down the hall through some doors.
"Can I get you a change of clothes?" the nurse at the desk asked Howie since he had blood on the front of himself.
"No you can just get that doctor to tell me what is wrong with her!" Howie yelled at the nurse and she stared at him then rolled her eyes and went back to work. Howie dug in his pant pockets to see if he left his cell phone in them and was thankful that he did and he dialed AJ's cell phone number.
"What do you want?" AJ asked in a grouchy mood. It was one in the morning where he was at when the ringing of the phone woke him up.
"AJ, it's Howie. I think you should have come up with a better compromise with Kristen instead of her going to the hospital when she got back home," Howie said with tears in his eyes.
"What the hell are you talking about? What compromise?" AJ asked slowly waking up.
"The compromise you made with Kristen about going to see a doctor when she called you earlier today."
"I haven't talked to Kristen in over a week."
"I can't believe she lied to me about calling you," Howie said partly to AJ and partly to himself out loud.
"She's been lying to everyone lately about the stupidest things. Now what is this shit you're talking about someone going to the hospital?" Howie paused for a few seconds before he spoke again.
"She's sick Bone," he finally said with tears coming out of his eyes. Right then AJ could tell that Howie was crying and he immediately became scared since he never cried unless something was seriously wrong.
"Where are you?" he asked flying out of bed to get dressed.
"I'm at a hospital in Atlanta."
"Alright I can be there in about four hours probably. I'll talk to you then to find out what's wrong. If you tell me now I'll end up crying the whole way there and probably not make it. See ya then," AJ said then hung up the phone before Howie could say anything back to him. About an hour later the doctor who was with Kristen came into the waiting room.
"What was wrong with her? Is she okay? Can I see her?" Howie asked fast jumping up.
"She's fine now and is in her own room and you can see her in a few minutes," the doctor said.
"What was wrong with her?" Howie asked again.
"I'm sorry sir but she lost the baby. She had a miscarriage."
"What?" Howie asked hoping that he heard wrong. He knew when AJ found out he would be crushed to know that this would be his second child that never had a chance to be born. "What went wrong?"
"Kristen is one of the girls from that new group Love's Angels right?" he asked and Howie nodded his head yes. "Well I know she's on tour with Britney Spears since my daughter went to that concert tonight."
"Okay I don't mean to sound rude but could you please get to the point here?"
"Sorry, has she been taking very good care of herself while touring?"
"No, honestly she hasn't. I've been trying to get her to eat healthier but she's been listening to hardly anyone lately. That's not what caused her to lose her baby is it?"
"Kristen may have been getting plenty of exercise lately but she hasn't been eating well and is in pretty poor health. She has a bad case of the flu and is really dehydrated so she's hooked up to IV's right now."
"So her not staying healthy and getting sick caused her to have a miscarriage?" Howie asked confused.
"It's all because she wasn't staying healthy. Her getting the flu and having a miscarriage."
"I can't believe this. This is the second baby she's lost."
"She may also have a hard time carrying a baby through a full term pregnancy," the doctor added. "I'm truly sorry about this. You're the father aren't you?"
"Oh no. I'm just a really close friend of her's. I called her husband who is also touring right now and he's on his way here. He didn't want to know anything about what happened until he got here. Can I go see her until he gets here?"
"Yes. She's in room 268 on the second floor. She doesn't know about losing the baby so if you want to tell her feel free too."
"Alright thank you," Howie said shaking his hand then he got on the elevator to the second floor. He walked into the room Kristen was in and closed the door behind him. He pulled a chair up next to the bed that Kristen was laying awake on and sat down. "How you feeling?" he asked taking her hand in his own and squeezing it.
"Why was I bleeding so bad?" Kristen asked and Howie didn't say anything back. "Howie why the hell was I bleeding!?!" Kristen now yelled at him.
"I'm sorry Kristen. You weren't keeping yourself in the greatest health and...." Howie said then stopped and Kristen knew what he was going to say.
"I'm not going to have my baby am I?" she asked with tears her in eyes.
"I'm so so sorry Kristen," Howie said. Kristen jerked her hand away and covered her face with both of her hands as she cried over her loss.
