Chapter 10~ The Pager Goes Off

"Thanks, Jackie," I said. Brian's mom walked into the den with a glass of orange juice and my Cosmo magazine. "Of course, dear," she smiled, handing both to me. Both she and Brian's dad, and my parents, were staying at our house until the baby came. "Kennedy?" I heard my dad call. "I'm in here!" I answered, peering around Jackie to look through the doorway. My dad appeared with an arm load of Chinese food. "Food!" I yelped, getting up. Jackie caught my arm and helped me, Lord knew I would have fallen over from the weight of this baby, and we went into the kitchen. "Kennedy, do you know when Brian is supposed to get back?" my mom asked, getting plates out of a cupboard. I opened a carton of lo mein and popped a noodle in my mouth. "Umm, I think in like, three hours maybe?" I said, glancing at the clock. The guys were in the studio today recording the last song of their third album, and they were going to try and narrow down suggestions for the title of it. I felt the baby kick, and smiled, wishing Brian were home to feel it. We had spent many nights in the living room with headphones on my stomach playing classical music to the baby, and those had to be the sweetest memories I have of being pregnant. "Mom, how will I know when I go into labor?" I asked, turning around. She spooned some rice onto my plate and smiled. "Well, for me with you, I felt tremendous pressure on my abdomen, and a sharp pain ran up my back," she answered, setting the rice carton down. "Same with me," Jackie said as she walked past us. "Really? Do you think that will happen to me?" I asked, walking to the table and sitting down. "You'll know, baby, you'll know when it's time," my mom said, stroking my hair. _____________________________________________________________________________ "Ugghh, guys, come on, this shouldn't be taking so long," Brian said. He and the rest of the group were sitting around a table with a piece of paper with twenty possible titles on it. "I like 'Always Forever,'" Kevin said. Brian took the pen from Nick and circled 'Always Forever.' "Nick?" Brian said. "I like 'Stay With Me,' for obvious reasons," he answered. Brian circled Nick's choice and looked at Howie. "'Heaven's Eyes,'" he said. Then AJ spoke up. "I like 'Often Imitated, Never Duplicated." "AJ, do you know how conceited that's going to make us sound?" Kevin asked. AJ shrugged and put his sunglasses on. "Well, I like...damn!" Brian said, dropping the pen. "Brian, it's okay, it's just a pen," Nick said. "No it isn't," Brian said, reaching down to his belt. "The pager's going off," he finished. "The pager? Since when did you get a pager?" AJ asked. Brian stood up and took his jacket off the back of his chair. "Kennedy and I decided to get one for when the baby came. If I wasn't home she would page me, and I would leave it on vibrate in case we were recording, because I didn't want my cell phone going off, but I wanted her to be able to reach me," Brian said, gathering all the notes and papers they had on the table. "So does this mean she's going to have the baby now?" Nick said. Brian just looked at him. "Well I hope it's not a false alarm!" Brian answered, rushing out of the office. All the other guys followed him. They all got to the elevators and went down to the parking garage. Brian got in his Jeep, with Nick in the passenger side. Kevin, AJ and Howie went in AJ's Expedition. Brian picked up his cell phone and dialed my cell phone. __________________________________________________________________________ "Hello?" I said. "Kennedy!" Brian said. "Baby! Don't you go speeding over here. It's okay, please don't panic. I'm fine and the baby won't come for about three hours, so you'll make it, okay?" I asked, trying to calm him down. "Okay. Are you sure?" he asked. "Yes baby. The doctors said it's happenind. Tonight!" I informed him. "Okay, baby. I'm twenty minutes away. You make that baby wait for me!" he said. "I will. I love you," I said. "I love you more."
