Part 5

Stephanie trembled for no reason, maybe it was the need for Kevin that triggered it. She let out an angry sigh that she had done that to herself. She jumped up from the bed and walked into her closet to get dressed. She quickly changed into her faded flare jeans and a soft, angora-like short sleeve sweater that form-fitted to her chest. She had just finished tying her silver Nikes when someone knocked at the door.

"Coming!" She yelled, running out of her light purple room, pulling her black chocolate hair into a claw-clip. She hurried to the door and straightened her shirt. Pulling open the door, she was greeted by an arrangement of African and white daisies.

"Oh, how sweet." She smiled, looking up to meet a pair of vibrant blue eyes. "Nicky, you shouldn’t have. Thank you." She smiled, hugging him lightly. He hugged her back, loving the feel of her body against his. She broke the hug and stared up into his baby blue eyes.

"You’re very welcome. Lovely flowers for a very lovely lady." Nick smiled charmingly, handing her the flowers. He bent in to give her a kiss but she beat him to it. The only problem was, it wasn’t where he wanted it. Stephanie kissed his cheek softly and rushed towards her kitchen.

"Always the ladies man, huh Carter?"

"Yeah, you know it." Nick smiled, admiring her light golden canary living room. It was very colorful and yet cozy at the same time. A large scarlet leather couch with a reddish-purple throw blanket and pillows on it was in front of the TV and bay window. The couch looked big enough to hold two people, of course they would have to be in an intimate embrace, but that would be no problem. He could almost imagine being curled up on that couch, with Stephanie naked in his arms, doing anything and everything they wished. He walked over to her picture wall and glanced from picture to picture until one caught his interest. It was one they had taken while getting ready for some awards show. Stephanie was in a black silk slip dress and was dancing with Nick. He had her down in a dip and was kissing her chest, just above where her dress covered. Nick remembered how pissed it had made Kevin and smirked. He had actually made Kevin, Mr. Body Beautiful himself, jealous of him.

"Hey Nickers, what are ya looking at?" Stephanie’s breath hit his ear as she whispered to him.

"Oh, just seeing what pictures you still had. I would have thought you would toss a couple of these." He turned around to glance down at her.

"I couldn’t toss any of my pictures. I ain’t gonna throw away any pictures of my boys." She smiled up at him and kissed his nose. "I’m gonna go see if I can find a place in my room for these."

Nick watched her walk away and towards her room and decided to finally see what her bedroom was like. He stepped in behind her and stared at the beautifully decorated room. The walls were light purple and her furniture was in darker shades. Her bed was still unmade but that didn’t really bother him, it was big and in a three shades of dark blue. The room even had a balcony with French doors that looked out to the ocean. Stephanie had her back to him, arranging the flowers on her nightstand. The light orange and yellow hues didn’t match the room but made it look even more exotic. When Stephanie finally had them perfect, turned to go back to Nick and bumped right into him.

Nick tried to keep her from falling but only succeeded in making them fall onto the untidy bed. He landed right on top of her, the very tips of their noses were touching. Stephanie stared up at his gorgeous eyes and got lost in them. Nick leaned in slightly and brushed his lips with hers then deepened it slightly. Stephanie forgot everything in that one moment and wrapped her arms around his neck tightly, kissing him back. Nick was pleasantly surprised she was kissing him back but decided to see how far they could go. He slowly slid his hand under her sweater and rested it on her lace-covered breast.

Stephanie’s eyes snapped open and she pulled away from Nick’s lips, sitting up.

"I’m sorry Nick, I didn’t mean to do that." She stuttered, looking over at him. He looked a little disoriented and disappointed but gave her a small smile.

"It wasn’t your fault. I started it. I guess I just got a bit carried away, but I…" Nick started to spill his feelings for her when they both heard a knock at the door. He looked over at her and sighed. She just gave him a little half smile and hugged him tightly. They broke the hug and walked out to the living room. Stephanie went to the door and Nick sat down on the couch.

Stephanie sucked in a breath and opened the door. All she can see is a large bouquet of her favorite pink tipped roses. The flowers had kept the deliverer’s face hidden from sight, but Stephanie noticed a familiar ring on the man’s right hand.

"Kevin." She muttered, as the person moved the flowers from his face. It was indeed Kevin, a small smile on his face. Stephanie could form any words and simply hugged him tightly. He hugged her back, almost in tears from seeing her again.

"Jeez, come on in. I must be the luckiest girl in the world to get to two bouquets in one day." Stephanie smiled, moving out of the way so Kevin could step in.

Her apartment hadn’t changed. Still as beautiful and colorful as ever. His eyes finally rested on the couch where Nick was seated. Nick gave a small wave and started to wonder what Kevin was thinking. ‘ I hope he thinks I spent the night here. That will teach him.

"Go ahead Kevin you can sit down. Nick will keep you company while I put these flowers in water. Won’t you Nick?" She smiled happily as Kevin handed her the flowers and sat down in the chair perpendicular to the couch where Nick was.

Nick grinned and nodded as she walked into the kitchen. He then turned back to Kevin, who was resting his elbows on his knees.

"So, Kev, what are you doing over here?" He asked, trying not to sound cocky but couldn’t help but add a smile.

"Oh, Stephanie invited me over and I accepted. We have some things to discuss," Kevin explained, then added a little softer, "privately. So what are you here for Nick?"

"Oh, just come to see how she was holding up. She didn’t look so happy last night at the bar, so I thought I’d come over and cheer here up." He grinned innocently, then noticed Stephanie return to the room. She walked over to the couch and sat down.

"So guys, what do you wanna do?" She asked, looking between the two of them.

"Well, I was about to head home, since I know you and Kevin need to talk. But I’ll come back over later." Nick said, standing from the couch and leaning down to Stephanie. He kissed her cheek and nose softly and headed for the door.

"Wait one minute Kev, I gotta speak to Nick really fast." Stephanie followed Nick to the door and stepped outside with him. "Nick, thank you for coming over to cheer me up. You’re the best. And just forget the little bedroom thing okay. Neither one of us was thinking clearly."

Nick frowned but nodded then pulled her into a bear hug. He pushed his mouth to her ear and whispered softly, "If he treats you bad this time, I’ll always be there for you. Okay? And I love you, Baby."

Stephanie shuddered at his confession and felt him press his lips to hers. The kiss only lasted an instant, but He released her and walked away towards to stairs. She stared at him as he walked away and shook her head, trying to focus on Kevin. She stepped back into the apartment to find Kevin gone.
