Part 10

***With Aj***

"Babe, what was that all about?" Theresa asked, watching Aj quickly getting ready. He gazed over at her on the bed and frowned.

"Stephanie’s got a small crisis. Don’t worry Babe, I promise I’ll tell ya all about it later, Brian needs some help. And it would be better if she had us there." He explained, pulling on his dark shades and kissing his girlfriend sweetly.

"Should I go too, I mean she’s my friend too. I don’t know everything that’s going on but maybe I can help." Theresa said, standing from the bed.

"I’ll call ya then you can come over. I gotta talk to her and Brian first. Babe, I swear, I will explain everything when I got the time." He muttered, kissing her cheek again and left the room.

Aj sped all the way to Stephanie’s apartment complex, taking only about five minutes. He rushed up to the top floor and opened the apartment door. It was still dark because of the shades being drawn but Aj switched on the lights, nearly blinding himself. He walked back to Stephanie’s room and found Brian laying on her bed with her right next to him. Brian had an arm over his eyes and another over Stephanie’s small waist.

"Brian…" Aj tried to whisper but it came out loud anyway. Brian jerked his head over and sighed.

"Hang on one sec Bone, we’ll talk in the living room." He said in hushed tones. He slowly lifted Stephanie and moved out from under her. He laid her back down and got her comfortable. "Come on J."

"What did she say… What happened with Kev?" Aj asked, worried what part Nick had in it.

"She couldn’t say much, she just asked if I knew what Kevin did the night they had the big fight. That was the night he went to Kristen’s wasn’t it?" Brian asked, sitting down on the couch and propping his feet up on the coffee table.

"Yeah, it is. But what does Nick have to do with it?" Aj questioned, sitting in the recliner. Neither of them had an answer for that one.

"Because he’s the one who told me about it." Stephanie said from the hallway. Both men jerked their faces up and looked at her. She had pulled on some blue jeans and twisted her hair out of her face into a claw clip.

"Damn it, I knew he’d do something like this. What all happened, fill Brian and me in on the details." Aj said, watching her as she sulked into the bright living room and sunk down into the couch next to Brian.

She relayed everything that had happened from the phone call to Kevin, the kiss from Nick, and the fight before Brian got there. "It’s all fucked up and I’m tired of putting up with this shit. Every time I think something’s gonna work out and be great, something comes along and screws it all up. I just keep asking myself if I would have been better off not knowing about it."

"Hold up, let me get this straight for the record, yesterday Nick came over and you two kissed, but you don’t have those type of feelings for him. Then Kevin came over and you two, um, made up, then Nick calls and comes over this morning and tells you that Kevin slept with someone else the night you two broke up. Right?" Brian asked, watching Stephanie nod. "Okay, then what was the fight about the first time. The one to get the whole this started?"

"Kevin got a little jealous I spent all my time with you. He yelled at me and told me if you were so damn perfect I should be with you." She explained, feeling more sobs building in her chest.

"He doesn’t love Kristen, he just went over there to talk because they had decided to be friends. Kevin drowned his sorrows in alcohol and wound up in bed with her the next morning. If the boy had any sense he wouldn’t have done anything like that. He loves you so much." Aj stated, pulling his sunglasses off and staring at Stephanie.

"It’s just ironic ya know, he practically accused me of having an affair with Brian and then goes out that night and has an affair himself. How can I forgive him for something like this? It hurts so much. I hate him for making me love him so much." She muttered, burying her face in her hands. Brian gave a confused and slightly surprised look.

"Having an affair! With me! He thinks I’d do that…"

"No, not like that, just that I purposely avoided spending time with him to see you." Stephanie clarified, wiping a tear off her cheek with the back of her hand.
