Chapter 10

“Theresa! You came!” I heard Jennifer squeal as soon as I entered the hotel ballroom that was decorated with flowers and swans.

“Hi Jen, how could I not?” I smiled as we hugged. “It was very beautiful.”

“Thank you.” She grinned patting out her large white gown.

“I love your dress.” I stated gawking at it. It was studded with diamonds on the seams and the corset-like top was laced up the back and hung nicely on her chest. The skirt part of the gown was bell-shaped and cut into layers at angles.

“Thank you.” She smiled again. “Did you see Bri yet?”

“No.” I shook my head. “Where is he?” Jennifer just pointed towards a large group of guys and I noticed Brian being patted on the back by his friends.

“Go say hi.”

“Ok…” I trailed off heading for him. Smoothing down my lacy, light pink shirt and skirt, I put on my best smile and ‘excused’ my way into the crowd. “Brian.” I whispered from behind him. He stopped talking to his friends and turned my way, suddenly I blushed.

“Theresa.” He smiled walking towards me and hugging me tightly. “I’ve missed you.”

“I’ve missed you too.” I sighed wrapping my arms around him too. “Congratulations.”

“Thank you.” Brian grinned pulling from me and taking my hands in his. “Listen…” He began pulling me towards an empty table where we sat down, “about what happened, I just wanna say that I’m sorry and that I love you too much to loose you as my best friend.”

“I know, I feel the same way.” I whispered looking down at our hands. “But what happened that night wasn’t an accident.”

“It wasn’t. I didn’t want to admit it, but I had fallen in love with you. I was scared cause I still cared for Jennifer and I know you did for Nick.” Brian exclaimed.

“Yeah.” I just nodded. My eyes misted up with tears as I thought of Nick. God knows I still loved him.

“He’s still in the church if you wanna talk to him.” Brian said as if he was reading my mind. Looking up at him, I smiled slowly and sighed.

“I guess it’s time for me talk to him face to face, what do ya say?”

“Yeah.” Brian nodded pulling me into a hug. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” I whispered back before pulling away and heading for the chapel. When I walked in, I noticed Nick sitting in the front peu staring at something in his hands. Descending through the aisle, I stood in front of him and smiled. “Nicolas.”

Looking up at me, he stared before looking away, “Why are you here?”

“I came to congratulate Jennifer and Brian.” I stated sitting down next to him. “And I wanted to see you…”

“What ever.” He cut in tossing a black ring box back and forth in his hands.

“I’m serious Nick. I messed up big time.” I sighed crossing my legs and laying my upper body on them. “I’m sorry.”

“That…”

“That what Nick? Doesn’t cut it. Here I am stating that I made a big mistake and all you can do is still hate me?”

“Theresa, you slept with my best friend and then left me without explaining or saying good bye. Damn it! I’m not going to be happy.” Nick whispered harshly. “I loved you.”

“I loved you too. And what I did to you was terrible, I hated myself for it.” I admitted. Feeling my face soak up with tears, I sat up and ran my fingers through his hair. “I still do love you.”

“Please don’t…”

“Nick, I love you with all my heart. Don’t hate me anymore, I can’t take it.” I bawled. Feeling Nick’s hands upon my face, I stared into his ocean colored eyes and cried, I could see that he still love me.

“I wanted you to marry me.” He said suddenly brushing my hair from my face.

“Huh?”

“I was going to ask you to marry me on our anniversary…”

“The day…I left…” I gasped. “Oh my God! Nick I’m so sorry.” I couldn’t believe what kind of demon I had become. Looking over at the box that rested in his hands, I took it from him and opened it. Inside laid a nicely cut diamond engagement ring. “It’s beautiful.” I whispered examining it.

“Its yours, you can have it.” Nick stated looking away. Looking at him quickly I shook my head and handed it back to him. “No, it’s yours. It has your name inside of it, I can’t just take it back or give it to anyone else.”

“Nick…I can’t have something that I’m not suppose to have…”

“I want you to have it.” Nick said. “I got it for you.”

“Nick…” I cried.

“What?”

“I love you. I never stopped loving you. And I cannot take something that I do not deserve.” I admitted.

“Well then throw it away. It’s not mine.” Nick whispered. I just stared in utter shock. A million thoughts ran through my head as I stared at his tilted head—his face staring at the floor. “Pawn it or something, I have no use for it.”

Closing the lid to it, I pulled the box to my chest and closed my eyes and cried. I couldn’t lose him, not again. Slowly I slid off of the seat and onto my knees in front of him. “Nicolas Carter…”

“Theresa what are you doing?” Nick stuttered his eyes looking at me in astonishment.

“Marry me.” I pressed lightly while sitting on my feet and resting my hands on his knees. He just stared at me in total silence. I was starting to worry, was I making an ass of myself?

“Theresa…”

“Please. Let’s just start all over, baby I love you too much. I cannot up and leave you again, I wont.” I informed feeling my body tremble with nervousness. Still he stared at me. Sometimes his eyes would shift from my lips to the box that rested in my clammy hands. “I love you.”

“Yes.” He quietly muttered a smile forming on his handsome features.

“What was that? Did I hear a yes?” I smiled quickly. He only nodded while taking the box out of my hands and pulling the diamond out of it.

“Your so cute when your nerves.” He chuckled before slipping the ring onto my finger.

“I love you!!!!” I screamed jumping into his arms and kissing his lips passionately, taking in ever moment. It was finally the end of my chapter—my book. I was with the one who I truly fell in love with.
