The founder of the 1031 Club, the "Head Spook", had always had a passion for Halloween and haunted houses but didn't actually begin "yard haunting" until he moved into our first location(a two family apartment) on Memorial Parkway in 1981 and there he met "Mr. hedge trimmers". The two had seen local haunted houses and wanted to be a part of the fright that each October brought, so they set out to create a haunt of their own.
In 1982 the two began with plans of their own to create something "unique" to haunt the area. Armed with 9 dummys, 2 coffins, a possesed bed, and a few tombstones they started a haunt unlike anything ever seen before. The Haunted Graveyard ran the last two weekends in October with unbelievable amounts of trick-or-treaters. Surprised by the excitement that this initial display created they decided to continue it the following October. That year the two added new props and more dummys and picked up two new cast/crew members along the way. Each year the display got bigger and better, and at the same time attracted more people. They continued the tradition of the haunt at Memorial until 1986 when the "head spook" moved from the apartement into a house located on Earnscliff Court.
The haunted graveyard's new location continued to put fear into the hearts of many, but was somewhat limited due to the fact that Earnscliff was a dead end street. None the less, the two years spent there were "SPOOK-tacular".
In 1989 we packed up our caskets and moved to Rosemont Avenue. This was to become our longest running production (1989-2000) The once peaceful avenue was the perfect location for the Haunted Graveyard. It enabled scare-seekers the oppurtunity to enteract face to face with the terror while affording those less couragous a glimpse of the action when driving by. After seven years of having a nameless haunt we decided to officially title the graveyard "The Nightmare on Rosemont" because of the nightmares it brought to people. Through the 11 years at that location we created some of our best props and animatronics ever. The Nightmare on Rosemont was not only our longest running production but also our biggest, taking 3 yards to fit all the props.
It was here on Rosemont that the "1031 Club" moniker was adopted.
What is 1031?---- October(10th month)- 31(Halloween)!
The 1031 Club is a haunted house/Halloween organization which operated the haunts on Memorial Parkway, Earnscliff Court, The Nightmare on Rosemont and The Majestic Nightmare. In 1998 the "Head Spook" handed over the 1031 Club to Josh Wells aka the "HAUNT MASTER". During the next two years the Nightmare on Rosemont expanded greatly into 3 yards filled with vomiting zombies, coffins, torture devices and operation scenes.
Around this time another repitable haunt "The Majestic Nightmare" was at it's best under the control of the Stross Family. Bud Stross "WAVERIPPER" and father had been "haunting" their yard since 1994 and too had expanded greatly. In 2000 they produced their best haunt up to date. Armed with new props, animatronics, and scenes they became a major Haunt every October. Some of their best scenes included their operation, voddo, cemetary, Area 51 and be-heading scenes. Props in theses scenes included a vomit barrel, ratman, coffin, dog box, and a wide variety of creatures of the night.
In 2001 Josh (HAUNT MASTER) of the 1031 Club and Bud from the Majestic Nightmare decided to combine their Haunts and talent they have of haunting to make the "ultimate Nightmare". Now armed with twice the nightmares the two have now set off to make haunted house history. Josh and Bud have taken the 1031 Club to a higher expectation of haunting in the new 1031 Productions. 1031 PRODUCTIONS will remain be the same haunted house organization, but now we are going to move our "haunting" inside the house instead of the original yard haunts.
