Blondie
“Kayla, tell again why you made me dress nice just for dinner?” I asked walking down the stairs in a blue tank and khaki shorts.
“Because Zoey, kid we are having company over. Three males to be precise and I don’t want you to be looking all grungy and depressing.”
“For your information my styles not depressing and grungy and I have found people I like as friends so I’m perfectly fine.” Just then the doorbell rang.
“Zoey, just go get the door will ya?” I walked into the front hall and opened the door to reveal three guys all wearing different shades of blue shirts.
“Hello, apparently you would be our guests?” I asked as I looked at them.
“I apparently think so miss. Would you be the lovely Joey Walker your cousin Kayla has told my friends and I about?” A brown headed guy a little shorter than myself asked. I know these guys from somewhere I just can’t place it.
“Well come in, come in and tell me who you all are.” I stepped out of the way of the door and let them come in. “Oh wait a second. I know where I’ve seen you…”
The guy with black hair and blonde streaks interrupted me. “Yeah, yeah let’s get this over with. Yes we are the famous Backstreet Boys. We sing and everyone knows us. Now on to the meal.” He said walking past me to where he could hear Kayla in the kitchen. I laughed slightly at how he said it. The brown head walked away too. The tall blonde that was also with them was about to walk away from me too but our eyes caught each other’s when he looked up.
“That’s not just how I’ve seen you.” I said in a lower voice than normal.
The blonde looked at me with a hard questioning look. “You’re right, I’ve seen you somewhere before too.” It clicked in my head. He’s that blonde I ran into those times!
“Wait a second, at the pool with that girl Angel!”
“And at the park with your dog when you fell!”
“And when we saw each other at the mall!"
“Oh and the day I drove to the airport I saw you walking up to Luke.” Both my eyes and his gleamed as we finally found out who the mystery person was. On reflex we both just started laughing.
“We’ve come across each other so many times and we never met. Weird that you live across the street… Wait a second… do you live in the huge white house?”
“Yeah…”
“You never RSVP us on our party back a couple months ago when we moved here!”
“Oh, I’m sorry I must have took it as a piece of junk mail since I was sorting through a lot of it.” He had on his face the most sympathetic look I ever saw.
“Oh it’s alright. Let’s go eat.” I turned around and started for the dinning room where I knew everyone else already was. Before I moved more than a foot, the guy put his hand on my arm stopping me. “What?” I asked as I turned to face him again.
“I never got to introduce myself yet, Zoey.” He replied with the sliest, yet most heart-melting smile. He took my hand for a second. “I’m Nick.” Then he looked straight in the eyes while he lightly kissed my hand. I did only what any girl like me would do I just blushed, probably tomato red. “Now come on Zoey! Let’s eat!”
After the dinner, the two, AJ and Brian had to go back to Orlando to their own homes. I convinced Nick to stay longer, so him, Kayla, and I now sat in the living room. “So Nick, while you and Zoey were introducing yourselves in the hall, the guys were telling me their material statuses’ which happen to be taken, what about you?” Nick was sitting on a chair while Kayla lay across the couch and I was on another chair. He was looking in my direction when he answered.
“Oh, um, I’m single.” My heart jumped through my chest at the moment, I could feel its joy. Strangely, I remembered something at that moment that I had totally forgotten about. Nathan had asked me out for tomorrow night.
“Whoa, it’s think all the heart throbs like you and your friends would all be taken.” Nick turned his attention to Kayla.
“I’ve been out of one for awhile. The one’s I’m in never work out. What about you two though? You two seem like you’d be with the best guys in the town.”
“Well, I went out with this one guy a couple times, but we aren’t committed yet. So I’m neither single nor taken.” All of us shared a friendly quick laugh.
“Zoey?” Nick turned back in my direction.
“I’m kind of in Kayla situation too. But my first date with the guy is tomorrow.”
“Oh? Who’s the lucky guy, maybe I know him…”
“Nathan Hawks.” I replied biting my lower lip. I swear I saw Nick eyes change from bright friendly blue to a swollen deep blue all the way across the room. I wouldn’t just say that made me feel weird. I was more like freaked out inside my head. But wait, I could be imagining things. People’s eye color doesn’t shady up, right? Actually I wouldn’t know… awe Zoey shut up and get back into reality. I blinked nothing was bring said in the few seconds I had been thinking. Precious came into the room and broke the silence by her clicking of the collar.
Nick looked down at his watch. “Whoa it’s 10, I have got to be going. My dogs need to be let outside.”
“Okay see you around Nick! How long you off until you go back on the road?” Kayla asked as Nick and I stood up.
“Um… two weeks I believe.”
“Cool, night!”
“Yeah, see ya.” Nick started walking towards the door and I walked faster to catch up and meet him at the door to see him out.
“Nick, can I have your number to call you sometime?”
“Kayla has it. Good night, Zoey. Nice to finally meet you.” Nick shook my hand with a half, unreal smile. Strange mood swings he has.
“Yeah nice meeting you Nick, see you tomorrow maybe? Like around noon?”
“Maybe. Bye!”
“Bye.” Nick walked away and something strange happened. As I closed the door after getting a glimpse of his back. I have no clue what that feeling was but it was present and I didn’t know whether to like it or not.
