Pool Mystery

“Okay here’s your new pass and welcome to the Palm Beach Park District Pool.” The lady behind the desk said as I walked out of the office. I walked onto the concrete and found the perfect lawn chair to sun in. It was directly in the sun with no trees or anything in the way, and it was by the diving boards, my favorite part of a pool. I took off my overalls and jumped in the pool.

Let me introduce myself, I’m Zoey Walker. I’m a 16 years old, 5’9”, and a very shy girl. What’s sad is that I don’t have any friends and can’t make them because I’m afraid of what people think of me. I don’t want to turn myself into someone I’m not, but I’m still afraid if people like me so I don’t talk much. The only friend I do have, which doesn’t really count, is my cousin Kayla. You see my parents died a long time ago, maybe about 5 years now. So I was sent to live with my aunt and my cousin. Kayla’s 20 and she wanted to move away from her small city in mid Arizona, so I went with her. We’ve been here a week and after unpacking everything in our HUGE house, I decided to check out the local pool.

I walked into the concession stand and on the way into the area a guy bumped right into me.

“Oh sorry, my fault.” This blond tall guy around 6 foot said as he smiled at me and walked off. Now that was strange, that person seemed just too nice. I sat down on a bench and followed with my eyes at where the guy was going. The diving boards. As I got up to get some nachos, I watched him gracefully dive off the high dive. Cute guy that was.

I ate alone and in piece. That’s what happens when you don’t know anybody, you get a lot of free time. I put my wallet back in my bag and dived into the five feet. A little girl about the age of 11 swam by me. “Hi.” The girl smiled at me.

“Hi.” I replied back.

“I’m Angel, who are you?” Okay this girl is walking on thin ice saying things like this.

“I’m Zoey. Angel can I tell you something? Never just go up to strangers and tell them your name. It’s not safe.”

“I guess you are right. Well bye.” The girl went over to someone. That someone was the tall blonde guy. Unfortunately he didn’t notice me and left the area. So much for getting someone to talk to me.
