Playing with the Innocent
Nick walked up the sidewalk to the front door after the long day of being in Orlando. He decided to call Julie to see how her day was.
Julie’s phone rang. She could hear it ringing through the bathroom door. She had decided to take a long bath and relax, but she forgot to bring her phone with her into the bathroom. She just sat there in the bubbles and daydreamed about nothing.
Nick let it ring 8 times before he hung up. He figured she was sleeping, still out, or just not answering the phone. He went by his window to see if she was home. Porch lights were on and so was the bathroom’s. Giving herself a manicure or something. I could always find out… Nick grinned mischievously.
Nick walked downstairs and took Julie’s house key off the wall. It was the spare and the Carter’s got to possess it. Nick walked into Julie’s house as quiet as he could. He didn’t want to scare her, that much. Rodney, Julie’s orange kitten came pouncing up to Nick. “Hey, I don’t remember you.” Nick whispered as he bent down to pet it. “Hey Rodney, “he looked at the tag, “I’m Nick, you’ll be seeing a lot of me probably.” Nick heard a door open and another door close upstairs. Nick silently crept up the long stairs and went to the bathroom cuz the light was still on. By instinct though he knew she was in her room, not there. He walked into the bathroom and found her favorite slippers. He put the slippers on top of a ledge that was to high for Julie to reach without using a stool. He then took the hamper and carefully lifted it up, and put that sideways on the ledge also. Since it was on it’s side, the top wouldn’t stay shut and some close fell and others hung from it.
Nick looked out both ways on his way out of the bathroom before stepping out. He quickly tiptoed to the guestroom and hid in the shadows as Julie walked back to the bathroom. When she walked in and saw the clothes hanging and thrown all over the room she gasped. She took a breath and screamed out at the top of her lungs. “Nick Carter I know you are here! Show yourself this instant.” As she said that she was a little scared that it wasn’t Nick, but when she saw Nick’s blonde hair from a reflection in the mirror and she relaxed. Nick walked out of the guestroom with a very evil look in his eyes and in his smile.
“What?” He asked innocently as his face turned from evil to puppy-dog-ish.
“Boy. You know you can’t fool me with your little pranks. You know they never worked on me. Now, why is my hamper on that ledge, and where are my slippers?”
“You’re no fun. I have no clue where your slippers are.” (You can’t actually see the stuff on the ledge because it’s an indent in the wall before the ceiling.)
“Okay, why is my hamper up there?” Julie had her hands on her hips and looked at him, with a crooked head, trying to get an answer.
“I dunno.” He shrugged.
Julie laughed silently. “Just get it down, mister Okay?” I always knew Nick was cute when he acted up.
“Yeah, yeah, shush up.”
Julie laughed at Nick’s antics. “Well little boy who’s younger than me, why are you here?” She asked as he took down the hamper and started to pick up the clothes.
“I, um, oh yeah, I just wanted to see how your day was.”
“Could have just called me. You didn’t have to ‘hang up’ my clothes.”
“I tried that!”
“That was you!” He nodded with a smile. “Sorry about that. I didn’t bring the cordless with me in here. Now since I can’t find my slippers and I want a helper, you can stay here until I find them.” Nick’s eyes widened. “Yeah, and it could take ALL night!”
“That’s okay. I want to know how your date with Brendan went.” Julie squinted her eyes.
“How’d you know it was a date?”
“ I know guys like him that would do that stuff.” Julie and Nick went back to her room and just sat around while she told Nick everything that happened.
“HE TOOK YOU GOLFING!” Nick burst into a fit of laughter, as Julie blushed a little.
“Hey, we didn’t know where to go for the afternoon and passed it so we decided to just go there. Even though it wasn’t a favorite choice from me, he enjoyed it.” Julie started to giggle herself as Nick laughed harder. “Well he’s a very sweet guy, has bad jokes, but he’s very respectful.”
“Uhuh, I think I heard enough, I’ll go get your slippers now. You gotta stay in here though.”
“Nuhuh.”
“Uhuh.” Nick and Julie chased to the door. Nick got there first and locked the door from the outside. He just put a chair underneath the handle but this door swung outwards so it worked that way. Julie pounded on the door.
“This is unfair! I’m a week older than you, you can’t do this to me!” She shouted through the door after she pounded on it.
“As I’ve told you many times over the years Julie,” Nick shouted back as he went into the bathroom, “Age doesn’t matter it’s the strength that does!” Nick put the slippers next to her door. “Bye Julie.”
“What? You can’t leave me locked in my own bedroom!” Nick laughed as he walked down the stairs.
He yelled one more time before closing her front door, “See you in the morning! Oh and don’t try calling my house, everyone’s already alseep!”
“NICK!” Julie screamed, but that turned into a frustrated type of laugh. Since Julie knew she’d be stuck in there for awhile, she lay down on her bed falling asleep within 5 minutes.
