Knocking Life Into Nick While Playing V-ball
*Knock Knock*
“Go Away.”
“Nick, C’mon, let me in.”
“Julie, just leave me alone.” Aaron came up to the door.
“Nick, let me in, I need to get something.” Nick opened the door for Aaron and tried to close it before Julie could get in. He of course didn’t succeed, and Julie of course squeezed through the door. Nick always falls for it. Julie thought.
“Nick, you have been home for a week and haven’t done anything.”
“I have no right to live.”
“Nick! Man you are so wrong! You are a Backstreet Boy! You are one of the hottest stars of the year in all the mags! You have great friends, a great family, and so much more. I know you thought you loved her, but get over it and see daylight. Let’s go to the beach today instead of you just moping around in your room!”
“Okay, fine.”
“Good, now get your suit, and meet me outside in five minutes!” Julie stormed out of the room, leaving Nick there, surprised at how commanding she was.
They both jumped into Julie’s Cougar and she drove them to the beach. Nick was very quiet and had a pouting frown on for the whole ride, not making it very comfortable for Julie. When they go there they set up the blanket and everything by a palm tree so the food for lunch would be shaded.
Nick and Julie were walking down the beach to the water when the heard an all too familiar voice, Brad’s. “Oh looky here, it’s our buds, Nick and Julie!” Both Nick and Julie turned around to see a bunch of guys standing around them. Most of them were their friends, but one guy was a total stranger.
Nick put on his acting skills similar to the ones he sometimes gives the fans. With all smiles he said back, “Hey guys! What’s up?” Nick gave them all a weird handshake.
“We’re just hanging at the beach trying to pick up some hot gals.” Matt another guy in the group said.
“Trying is the main word for you Matt.”
Jeremy laughed at Julie’s comment. “We are surprised to see you two here. I personally didn’t know if you’d ever get over her, Nick.”
“Yeah, well, anyone who would go to all that trouble to break my heart and lie to me doesn’t even deserve space in my brain to think about.”
“I know what you mean bro.” Jeff sympathized. “Hey Jul, Nick, we got a new buddy, he just moved here.”
Ethan cut Jeff off. “Yeah Julie, You’ll love him you guys are perfect for each other. Nick, Julie,” he pointed to the guy next to him.
Brad cut him off. ”That’s Brendan. Hey do you two want to join us? We are about to play some beach volleyball.”
“Sure.” Julie answered before Nick could decline the offer.
“Okay cool. You two can be on a team with me and Brendan.” Ethan winked.
“No Ethan, you can be on their team because you suck. Jeremy can be on our team.” Brendan joked, making Nick laugh.
“Okay, well anyway, since I’m the only girl, I think I should get the ball and serve first.”
“Excuses, excuses.” Jeff smiled as he tossed her the ball from the other side of the net.
“You can play right?”
“Can she play? Brendan, she’s da bomb at this game.”
“Why thank you Brad. Brendan, don’t get me started.”
“Whoa, looks like you insulted the pretty lady Brendan.”
Nick could see Julie’s face getting a light shade of bright red so he spoke up. “Okay everybody.” He threw his hands in the air as he spoke. “Just shut up and let us play the game before the sand gets too hot to handle.” Surprisingly they listened to Nick. (I don’t think anyone really wants to know what Nick’s like when he’s mad. I just can’t imagine.) The played a tight game. The score was 13 to 14 Julie’s team was in the lead. Neither team had scored a point in the last 10 minutes. It was Julie’s turn to serve. Everyone n both teams were silent because everyone was so tired. She served the ball over to the left side. Matt and Jeff both dived for the ball, running into each other, and missing the ball by half a foot.
Julie snickered at the sight. “That’s what the object of calling for the ball help’s.” She gave each of her teammates a high five while the other four guys just sat in the sand watching them.
“Dudes, you are our best buds but since we didn’t expect to see you guys here and we thought otherwise, we’ll be on our way.”
“Wait, so you guys are dating?” Brendan asked as he looked from Nick to Julie. They just looked at each other without replying. No one ever asked them that before, actually.
“No man, they aren’t together! They’ve just been best friends for life!” Jeremy spoke up for them.
“Oh okay. Nevermind me then.” Nick and Julie didn’t even bother to reply. They just turned around and went over to their blanket. They ate their lunch of chips and dip and PB & J sandwiches. Either of them for some reason couldn’t get it out of their heads that someone thought they were dating. They tried their hardest to dismiss the thought and it somewhat worked. Julie was dazing off and watching the water when Nick came up behind her. He put his arms around her and hugged her. Whispering, “Thank you,” as he put his head on her shoulder.
