Here are some more pictures we took in the Central Otago region, Central South Island, especially around Naseby and St. Bathans.

A short trip from Naseby took us to St. Bathans, home of the Blue Lake. It is actually a manmade lake, formed from an old gold mine. It's still quite pretty. It's located about fifty miles from nowhere, so we were actually the only ones there that day.

Another view of the Blue Lake. While we were in St. Bathans, we stopped for coffee at the local pub, the Vulcan Hotel. The bartender quickly picked up on the fact that "we weren't from around here" when our friend John ordered a flat white. Even more revealing was my accent in ordering a Coke. Apparently in St. Bathans they drink beer and speak New Zealandish.

Kiwis visiting this site would recognize this barn as the subject of a famous New Zealand painting. I'm not sure what its called, or who painted it, but our friends assure us its very famous.
