SLIDERS: ALTERNATE SPIN
EPISODE 12-CONFLICTED VIEWS
(second part)

Brown jumped out of sleep. The knock came again. It sounded hurried.
"Who is there?" Brown asked.
"Who do you think, Proper?" the familiar voice came from the door. "Open up."
Brown opened up the door. Richard rushed into the room without another word. He pushed Brown out of the way and locked the door.
"Where's Melissa and Egghead?" Richard asked.
"I finally got Melissa to sleep some time ago," Brown answered. "As for Mr. Heim, He was arrested for the crime that Mr. Bufford accused him of tonight. That must make you happy?"
"He had it coming," Richard replied. "It doesn't matter now. We got to get out of here. Bufford's trying to rub me out."
Brown corked an eyebrow. "Oh, really? I believe you had it coming."
Richard glared at Brown. Before he could think of a comeback, the door to Melissa's room opened. She walked in rubbing her eyes.
"What's going on?" Melissa asked.
"We have to go," Richard said. "I've been labeled...knowo too mucho."
Melissa's eyes snapped open as action forced her to move. She ran back to her room to get things. Brown stared Richard down.
"We are not leaving Mr. Heim here," Brown said flatly.
"What made you think I would?" Richard asked.
"I am getting to know you so I am positive that you would let Mr. Heim rot to save your own skin," Brown continued flatly.
"Look," Richard said. "We don't have time to debate Egghead's saintness. Get your stuff and let's go."
Brown left the room to get what few things he had collected since they started sliding. He wish he could have collected more, but time would not allow for better things.
Brown returned to the room to find Melissa and Richard ready to go.
"Took you long enough, Proper," Richard said.
Richard headed for the door. Brown followed behind Melissa. When the door opened, there were men in black aiming guns at them.
"Where do you think you're going?" one of the gunmen asked.

The blindfold was finally removed from Melissa's eyes. The light was blinding at first. Then her eyes started to adjust.
The room was lit with fluorescent lights. Melissa looked up and realized that the light were high above the ground. Columns of wooden crates rose to what looked like the sky. It was the markings of a warehouse.
Melissa looked to her right to see that Professor Brown and Richard were sitting in chairs next to her. She could feel the presence of other people behind her, but she couldn't look. In front of them stood Bufford and Rebecca Pryce.
"I see you are in one piece," Bufford said. "Bad for you; great for Rebecca here. She's been wanting to practice torture for a while. It's the only way she'll get great at it you know."
Rebecca just grinned. Melissa glared at her. She hated Rebecca even if it was just a double.
"Come on, Bufford," Richard said. "Surely we can talk about this?"
Rebecca pulled out a sword.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Bufford said. "She went to London and killed quite a few people to get it. How about the girl, Rebecca. I still owe her husband for stealing her from my brother."
Melissa didn't know what to do. Rebecca approached her slowly. It felt like she was searching for Melissa's fear. Sweat started to form on Melissa's forehead.
"How about if we can deliver you Egghead--I mean, Heim's empire on a platter?" Richard asked. "Would you just let us leave the country?"
"Huh?" Bufford asked. "How do I know you won't come back?"
"You got a secret over me remember," Richard said. "Why would I?"
"And her?" Bufford gestured to Melissa.
Rebecca stood in front of Melissa. Melissa looked up at Rebecca. She glared at her in defiance. If she had to die, it would not be crying.
"She's having an affair with me behind Ben's back," Richard said. "I'll reveal it and then she'll have nowhere to go. Think of it as poetic justice."
Rebecca raised the sword in the air above Melissa.
"You can stop," Bufford ordered. "He has a point." He grinned. "Kill Agent Brown instead."
"What?" Brown said. "That is just the height of unfairness and--"
"Proper, shut up!" Richard barked. "I'm trying to talk here!"
Brown shut his mouth.
"He's part of the plan," Richard continued. "With Proper here, I can guarantee Heim won't be a problem ever again."
Melissa stared at Richard. He looked totally serious as he looked at Bufford. She turned to see Bufford rubbing his chin as he considered what Richard offered him.
"I'll give you twenty four hours," Bufford said.
"That'll be all that I'll need," Richard replied.

"I disagree with this," Brown said as he walked with Richard down the hall of the police station.
"We don't have a choice, Proper," Richard said. "If we're going to help Egghead, we have to bring that empire down."
"This is why we should never interfere in other worlds," Brown declared.
"Shhh!" Richard hissed. "We don't want the officer to hear."
Brown looked at the officer who was walking a few feet in front of us. He believed that Brown was from Washington to bring in Randy Heim, mob boss. He turned to look at the two men.
"He's right here," Agent Brown," the officer said. "He's been silent all day."
Randy looked up at the sound of voices. He looked at Brown and smiled slightly. Then he glared at Richard.
"Stand, Mr. Heim," Brown instructed. "You have a long drive ahead of you."
"You're not going to take me in, copper" Randy said with a Brooklyn accent.
"Resistance is futile," Brown said. "Come along."
Brown grabbed Randy roughly. Then he pulled him out of the cell and headed down the hall. Randy put up a little struggle.
"Thanks," Randy whispered. "How much time?"
"Some more hours," Brown whispered. "We are missing Miss Clark at the docks."
They walked into the offices. People ran around doing their various jobs. No one seem to notice Brown and Richard with Randy. However, Brown stopped.
"Oh my God!" Brown muttered.
On the other side of the room with a clare view of their location was FBI Agent Darnell Brown. He talked with several officers.
"Uh oh," Richard said as he saw Brown's double.
"Take Mr. Heim now," Brown ordered Richard. "Go left. I will try to go right and--"
"He sees us, " Randy said.
"Separate now," Brown barked out.
He headed down one fo the column of walls and desks. He ducked when he had to. He made it to a room and walked in. He locked it behind him.
He saw shadows through the window as men ran by. Obviously, they knew there was a jail break.
He saw a window and headed for it. His only thought being that Mr. Heim and Mr. Hall also made it out of the station safely.

"Come on, Egghead," Richard hissed as they made it to the restroom. "You can walk faster than that."
"Shut up," Randy said.
"Hey! I just saved your butt," Richard said.
"Knowing you it was your fault I was arrested," Randy said.
"You screw up more than I do," Richard said. "It's your fault we're in this mess."
Randy exploded. "You butthole! It's your fault! You tried to steal my machine from me. Who put you up to it?"
"Look, a window," Richard said. "We can argue or escape. You decide, Egghead."
"This isn't over," Randy said. "I've had it up to here with you crap."
"The same here, Egghead," Richard said as he crawled out the window.
Randy followed him. He hoped that Professor Brown had made it out as well. He also hoped Melissa was all right as well.

Melissa looked up at the house as she walked up the stairs. She had so many memories here so she could understand why her double would choose to live here. The last time Melissa had seen this house was on a world where time moved slower. A younger version of herself lived there, too. Now she found the key under thee flowerpot like at all the others and put it in the lock. Then she walked right into the house. She headed for the bedroom. She figured that since Ben was Randy's right hand man that he held secret information in the house. The most likely place was the bedroom.
Melissa immediately started to search the bedroom when she got there. She looked in the drawers. She searched through the closets. Melissa even went so far as turning over pictures in the room and seeing if a safe was behind them. There was nothing to be found.
She sat on the bed and huffed in frustration. She did not know where to look and she didn't have enough time.
She turned to look at the pillows at the head of the bed. She frowned at them. If Ben wanted to keep them safe...
Pieces of pillow and cotton went flying. Melissa shrieked happily as she found the papers that she was looking for.
"I thought you left."
Melissa turned to see Ben in the doorway. His face was in the shadows.
"You already know that I was helping Heim," Melissa explained. "He sent me to get these...papers."
"I think you're lying," Ben said as he entered the bedroom. "You been lying about a lot of things though."
Melissa got off the bed slowly. Ben's body blocked the way to the door. She was stuck.
"What are you talking about?" Melissa demanded.
"You promised...in CHURCH...that you would be faithful to me!" Ben shouted, his face becoming an enraged beast. "You told me that nothing was going on between you and my best friend!"
"Nothing...is," Melissa said.
"Explain this then."
Ben stormed over to Melissa. Then he pushed a letter into her hands. She brought it up to her eyes and gasped.
"Oh," Melissa said.
"How could you?" Ben demanded. "I though you loved me."
Melissa stared at Ben down. Her eyes narrowed on him. This conversation seem to be constantly repeated every time she ran into a double of Ben.
"I am so sick of this!" Melissa exploded. "I can see whoever I want. I don't love you. We are not soul mates. God, it was just one date and every world seems to point to me ending up with you! I like Randy and I'm going to be with him!"
Melissa just pushed pass Ben and headed down the stairs. She headed out the door feeling good about herself. She also grinned at her realization.
She liked Randy. Now all she had to do was tell him.

"We should be safe here for a while," Richard said as he sat on the roof with Randy.
"Assuming we lost that police car," Randy added.
"You should have run faster," Richard said.
"Always got to find something wrong, huh?" Randy asked.
"So do you," Richard said. "You're always blaming others for your foul-ups when it's your fault!"
Randy frowned. "That's it! I'm so sick of you and your crap! We wouldn't be here AT ALL if you haven't stolen...try to steal my machine. Why did you do it? You're going to tell me now."
"My crap? What about you?" Richard countered. "Did I cause Daniel or Sarah to want our heads? Did I screw up Chad Owens? NO! It was your fault or some double of yours!"
"Of course it's not your fault!" Randy barked. "You're too busy hitting on Melissa na and any other breathing girl! Or you're busy pretending to be a god! Usually you're the cause of some trouble! God, you couldn't even get that Nicole girl to love you without--"
Richard's fist hit Randy in the lip. Randy fell back and landed on his butt. He glared at Richard and wiped the blood from his lip. Richard glared back at Randy.
"Don't you EVER say her name to me again!" Richard snapped. "She was important to me, and I finally had her on that one world and YOU wrecked it!"
"And you don't like that, do you?" Randy asked. "Well, TOO BAD! It was the right thing to do."
"You self-righteous--"
"Why did you do it?" Randy stood up and stared at Richard. "Who blackmailed you? Was it Bufford?"
"Leave it alone!" Richard said. "I'm going to go and--"
Randy grabbed Richard by his collar. "You're not going anywhere until you FINALLY tell me."
"Let go of--"
Richard tried to swing his arm, but Randy grabbed his arm. The two of them struggled. Finally, Randy just let go of Richard.
"Good," Richard said. "Now--"
The fist came up and hit Richard in the jaw. He hit the ground with a thuck.
"You're going to tell me," Randy said.
"Don't bet on it," Richard countered. "While you're at it, don't count on Melissa and Proper. They're going to dislike you, too. I'll see to that."
"Isn't this lovely?"
Richard turned to see Rebecca Pryce standing in the roof door. She aimed her gun at the two of them. Her smirk was the only ugly thing on her.
"You didn't think Bufford would just let you escape, Heim?" Rebecca said. "Kiss your life good-bye."
"Go ahead," Richard said. "He's just a good for nothing anyway."
"What do you mean good for nothing?" Randy snapped. "That's your description!" He turned to Rebecca. "Why don't you do the world a favor and shoot him?"
"Shut up!" Richard said. "She's not going to listen to you. You're the target."
Rebecca aimed her gun at Richard. "I don't know. He makes a good argument. I wouldn't want you screwing over anyone else like you did me."
"See," Randy added.
Richard stared at Randy. "Will you shut up?"
"Or what?" Randy challenged.
Richard just could not hold it in. One of his fist came up and swung at Randy. He ducked out of the way. He swung at Randy again, but he ducked out of the way.
"Not so tough now," Randy said.
"You son of a bitch!" Richard shouted, taking another swing at Randy.
"Hey! I'm trying to shoot here!" Rebecca said.
"I'm going to kill you!" Richard said. He took another swing at Randy.
Randy ducked again. Richard's fist connected with Rebecca's face. She fell to the ground unconscious. Randy picked up her gun.
"That was too easy," Randy commented.
"You were using me?" Richard asked.
"Nothing you've not used to," Randy replied. "Let's find the others."
"Fine."
Randy headed off the roof. Richard lingered. He hated the fact that Egghead had used him. He hated him period.
"I'm going to get him if it's the last thing I do," Richard swore as he followed Randy.

"Come on, Melissa," Brown said aloud. He looked down the walkway on the docks. There was no sign of her.
"Professor!"
Brown turned to see Randy running toward him. Richard followed behind him at a short distance.
"Mr. Heim, you made it!" Brown said happily.
"What? No happiness for me, Proper?" Richard asked.
"Where's Melissa?" Randy asked.
"I do not know," Brown revealed. "She was suppose to have given Mr. Bufford the information he needed, but she has not arrived yet."
"Maybe that's because I still have her."
Brown turned around to see Bufford coming down the walkway with Melissa. She was surrounded by two of Bufford's henchmen. Bringing up the rear was Rebecca Pryce.
"Yeah, it's a funny thing," Bufford said. "She gave me the info so I could just let you leave the country. You're out of my hair and I get to run things. Then I thought...he won't be gone forever. Eventually, Heim would come back to take over my empire. I just can't have that...so I'm going to kill you anyway."
"What? We had an agreement," Brown protested.
"Yeah," Richard added.
"Rebecca, could you silent those two?" Bufford ordered. "They're giving me a headache?"
Rebecca aimed her gun at Richard. That's when the beep went off.
Melissa pushed one of Bufford's henchmen into the other. She headed for Randy as she pulled out the timer.
"No, you don't!" Rebecca said as she fired on Melissa.
"Ahh!" Melissa screamed as a bullet hit her arm.
"Melissa!" Randy yelled. She fell into his arms.
"Open it," Melissa whispered.
Randy aimed the timer and pushed the button. A wormhole appeared near the edge of the dock.
"Run!" Randy barked at Richard and Brown.
Brown headed for the vortex. Richard was right behind him.
"Shoot, you idiot!" Bufford shouted. "It's just a hole in the air!"
The henchmen aimed their guns and fired at Richard.
"Shit!" Richard yelled as he dodged the bullets.
Brown made it to the vortex and jumped into it.
Richard looked back at Bufford, flipped him off, and jumped into the vortex.
Randy ran after the two men. Melissa was in his arms as he ran.
"We're going to make it," Randy whispered to Melissa.
Randy made it pass the henchmen's bullets. He jumped into the vortex and it closed behind him.

"Can you believe it?" Melissa said happily. "We finally get release today!"
Randy sat up in bed and smiled. "Yeah."
It had been a week since they left Mob World. Most of the time Randy and Melissa had been in the hospital. Randy's wound from Rebecca's failed assassination attempt had opened again. Melissa suffered from the same thing.
"So Brown and Richard are showing up to get us?" Melissa asked.
"Yeah," Randy answered. "So far none of our doubles are in any trouble so we can actually hang out."
Melissa sat on Randy's bed. "Hang out? That's a word...for friends. I think we have become more than that."
Randy was about to reply when he felt Melissa's hand. It held his own hand. He looked into her eyes.
"So...what are you saying?" Randy asked.
"What I'm saying," Melissa said, "is that fate be damned because I want to be with you, Randy." She leaned in closer. "Only you."
Randy leaned in closer on her. Their lips were just about to touch.
"Well, Mr. Heim, it is time..." Brown was saying as he walked through the door. Melissa backed away from Randy's quickly. "...for you and Melissa to check out. Are you up to it?"
"I'm ready as can be," Randy answered.
"I'm been ready," Melissa said.
Richard did not say a thing as the two of them joked with Proper. He had seen them about to kiss when Proper showed up. He knew what was up.
His smile revealed nothing to them. This relationship would not happen if he had anything to say about it. If Richard could not be happy, neither would Egghead.
"How about we head out?" Melissa said to Brown and Randy.
"Yea," Richard joined in with a grin. "Let's."
