Madison Central vs. Frederick Douglass

The Farm”

Frederick Douglass High School
Lexington, KY

Frederick Douglass defeated Madison Central by the score of 21-15 in one of the hardest hitting high school games I have ever witnessed. Frederick Douglass took a 21-7 lead late in the third quarter but on the ensuing kickoff Jeff Hairston raced 90 yards to the end zone to give Madison Central an apparent touchdown. However the touchdown was called back for an iillegal block. Frederick Douglass was driving for what looked like a touchdown and a three score lead in the final quarter but Madison Central’s Derek McElwee intercepted a pass and raced 85 yards for the score and Corinthian Barnes added a two point conversion to cut the deficit to 21-15. The Indians got the ball back and marched deep into Frederick Douglass territory but the threat ended on fourth down as a Madison Central pass to the end zone was knocked down by Toby Robinson. The Broncos took over and was able to run out the clock.

Frederick Douglass recordedn16 first downs and 223 yard of total offense. The Broncos were penalized eight times for 67 yards and had a pass intercepted. Madison Central recorded 12 first downs and 207 yards of total offense. The Indians were penalized nine times for 70 yards and lost a fumble.

Dakari Talbert led Frederick Douglass’ ground game with 135 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Carter Ross carried the ball once for 13 yards. Jeremiah Turner added 13 yards on seven carries. Jayden Guzman completed 11 of 14 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown with one interception. Terry Cayson caught five passes for 49 yards and a touchdown. TJ Stewart added two receptions for 14 yards. Cionne Conn returned one kickoff for 11 yards. Tacori Fields led the defense with nine solo and three assisted tackles and intercepted a pass he returned 21 yards. Thurman Wade added six solo and one assisted tackles. Nelson Irakiza recorded four solo and two assisted tackles. Lamonte Brown chipped in with one solo and three assisted tackles. Keenan Banther, Cionne Conn, and Jimmy Hooks each recorded three solo tackles.

Corinthian Barnes led Madison Central’s ground game with 98 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Carson Herbst carried the ball nine times for 36 yards. Quintsee Compton recorded 14 yards on six carries. Carson Herbst completed two of four passes for 55 yards. Quintsee Compton and Christian Lawson each recorded one reception for 35 and 20 yards respectively. Jeff Hairston returned four kickoffs for 35 yards with a long return of 14 yards. Liam Dailey led the defense with six solo and five assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a two yard loss. Derek McElwee added three solo and four assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a two yard loss and scored on an 85 yard interception return. Jeff Hairston recorded four solo and one assisted tackles. William Snell chipped in with four solo tackles.
