Sacred Heart Academy defeated Covington Holy Cross by the score of 84-49. Sacred Heart Academy shot 61.5% from the field including nine of 15 from the three point line. The Valkyries connected on 11 of 14 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 31 points off 20 Covington Holy Cross turnovers. Covington Holy Cross shot 36.7% from the field including one of 10 from beyond the arc. The Lady Indians connected on 12 of 17 free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 21 Sacred Heart turnovers.

“Tootie” Jordan led Sacred Heart Academy with 22 points including three three point baskets, two rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Za’Kiyah Johnson added 20 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. 5-7 Fr. Riley Gilvin recorded 12 points including three of four free throws, four rebounds, and two assists. Brianna Wilkins chipped in with 10 points including two three point baskets, two rebounds, five assists, three blocked shots, and two steals. Morgan Frey added six points, five rebounds, and two assists.

Sacred Heart Academy defeated Assumption by the score of 73-42. Sacred Heart Academy shot 51.7% from the field including two of 11 from the three point line. The Valkyries connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 14 Assumption turnovers. Assumption shot 27.1% from the field including five of 21 from beyond the arc. The Rockets connected on five of 10 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored three points off eight Sacred Heart turnovers.

Za’Kiyah Johnson led Sacred Heart with 30 points including two three point baskets, six of eight free throws, 15 rebounds, seven assists,two blocked shots, and three steals. Morgan Frey added nine points, five rebounds, and two assists. “Tootie” Jordan recorded eight points, three rebounds, and three assists. Bryan Station coach Champ Ligon countered with 6-3 Jr. Taeshawn Adams, 6-1 Jr. Amari Owens, 6-6 Sr. Antowone Burton, 5-10 Sr. Justin Richmond, and 5-11 Sr. Rashaad Faulkner.

Bryan Station defeated Madison Southern by the score of 75-66. Bryan Station shot 43.4% from the field including six of 18 from the three point line. The Defenders connected on 23 of 31 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 10 Madison Southern turnovers. Madison Southern shot 43.1% from the field including 13 of 28 from beyond the arc. The Eagles connected on nine of 10 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored eight points off nine Bryan Station turnovers.

Rashaad Faulkner led Bryan Station with 21 points including three three point baskets, four of four free throws, and three rebounds. Amari Owens recorded 15 points including two three point baskets, seven of 10 free throws, two assists, and two steals. Henry Clay led 46-30 in the third quarter but Bryan Station outscored the Blue Devils 18-4 in the final quarter to earn a 55-54 victory. There were four lead changes and four ties in this game. Bryan Station shot 38% from the field including five of 20 from the three point line. The Defenders connected on 12 of 22 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 12 Henry Clay turnovers. Henry Clay shot 41.7% from the field including seven of 21 from beyond the arc. The Blue Devils connected on seven of eight free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored nine points off nine Bryan Station turnovers.

Amari Owens led Bryan Station with 17 points including seven of 12 free throws, and two rebounds. Taeshawn Adams added 14 points including five of eight free throws, and five rebounds. Great Crossing trailed 56-47 in the final quarter but finished the game on a 14-2 run to earn a 61-58 victory over South Laurel. There were 10 lead changes and five ties in this game. Great Crossing shot 50% from the field including two of 17 from the three point line. The Warhawks connected on nine of 12 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 13 points off nine South Laurel turnovers. South Laurel shot 54.8% from the field including nine of 17 from beyond the arc. The Cardinals connected on three of five free throws, pulled down 18 rebounds, and scored eight points off seven Great Crossing turnovers.

Vince Dawson III led Great Crossing with 20 points and eight rebounds. Malachi Moreno added 16 points on seven of seven from the field, two of two free throws, 10 rebounds, four assists, four blocked shots, and two steals. LJ Holman recorded 10 points, two rebounds, and five assists. Gage Richardson chipped in with seven points and three assists.

Cayden Reed hit a three point basket at the buzzer to give Montgomery County a 64-62 victory over Covington Catholic. There were five lead changes and three ties in this game. Montgomery County shot 45.5% from the field including six of 16 from the three point line. The Indians connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 12 Covington Catholic turnovers. Covington Catholic shot 47.5% from the field including four of 14 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on two of six free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 10 Montgomery County turnovers.

Cayden Reed led Montgomery County with 24 points including two three point baskets, four of five free throws, four rebounds, and six assists. Tyce Jarvis added 22 points including three of four free throws, five rebounds, and two blocked shots. Andrew Terry recorded six points and eight rebounds. Brynli Pernell, and 5-4 Fr. Bella Ober.

Simon Kenton defeated Sacred Heart Academy 75-70 in overtime to end Sacred Heart’s 92 consecutive victories against in-state competition. There were 11 lead changes and five ties in this game and the score was tied 64-64 at the end of regulation. Simon Kenton shot 51% from the field including 12 of 25 from the three point line. The Lady Pioneers connected on 13 of 22 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored nine points off 13 Sacred Heart turnovers. Sacred Heart shot 52.7% from the field including five of 14 from beyond the arc. The Valkyries connected on seven of 13 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 19 Simon Kenton turnovers. (Za’Kiyah Johnson, Tootie Jordan, and Morgan Frey all flouled out for Sacred Heart).

Brynli Pernell led Simon Kenton with 22 points including four three point baskets, four of five free throws, three rebounds, and four assists. Bella Ober added 21 points including three three point baskets, four of six free throws, three rebounds, and five assists. Haylie Webb recorded 13 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Anna Kelch chipped in with 12 points on four three point baskets, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Megan Gadzala recorded seven points, five rebounds, and five assists. The five starters should be named “The Iron 5” as they each recorded 36 minutes of playing time and never left the floor tonight as they pulled off this hurculean task of knocking off the reigning giant of girls basketball in the Bluegrass.

Za’Kiyah Johnson led Sacred Heart with 25 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, and six steals. “Tootie” Jordan added 16 points including two three point baskets, two rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Morgan Frey recorded 15 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Brianna Wilkins chipped in with seven points and four rebounds. 5-7 Fr. Riley Gilvin added seven points.

The score was tied 37-37 after three quarters but Great Crossing outscored George Rogers Clark 18-6 in the final quarter to earn a 55-43 victory. George Rogers Clark raced out to a 16-4 first quarter lead but Sacred Heart rallied to pull away in the second half for an 80-68 victory over the Lady Cardinals. The Valkyries connected on 15 of 19 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 15 GRC turnovers. GRC shot 42.1% from the field including seven of 20 from beyond the arc. The Lady Cardinals connected on 13 of 17 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 11 Sacred Heart turnovers.

Madison Central defeated the injury plagued Paul Laurence Dunbar by the score of 85-50. Madison Central shot 53.2% from the field including seven of 19 from the three point line. The Lady Indians connected on 12 of 16 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 40 points off 24 Dunbar turnovers. Dunbar shot 36.2% from the field including six of 17 from beyond the arc.
