20th Annual “Preseason Hoopfest”

Hosted by Scott County Lady Cards Basketball

November 20, 2021

 

This year’s Hoopfest will consist of 12 varsity and junior varsity teams.  This event is sponsored by 10th Planet, Bree’s Kitchen, MLS Motor Sports, Southern States, & Shawnee Run Farm & Greenhouse with a special thanks to “Sports Connection for their support and loyalty to the Lady Cardinals, Scott County Schools, and our community.  The scoreboard will be erased at the end of each quarter so the scores mentioned here are just the totals of all four quarters and the stats were reported by me personally except the Scott County game which was reported by their excellent stats crew.  Since this was a scrimmage some players were missing and the coaches were working on various rotations and preparing for the regular season.  The games mentioned in this report were all varsity games.

 

East Jessamine vs. Harrison County

 

East Jessamine coach Steve Bridenbaugh started the following lineup: 5-6 Jr. Jeryma Christian, 5-5 So. Shelby Luong, 5-11 Jr. Linzy Napier, 5-4 Jr. Reece Evans, and 5-4 Sr. Irma Hagins.  Harrison County coach Kimberly Marshall countered with 5-9 Sr. Kara Hines, 5-5 Fr. Baylee Hudgins, 5-9 Jr. Caroline VanHook, 5-3 Sr. Gabrielle Hatterick, and 5-3 8th Grade Keylee Custard.

 

East Jessamine utilized their quickness and athleticism in a 56-47 victory over Harrison County.  5-7 Jr. Iesha Dean was effective in the lane and led the Jaguars with 17 points.  Jeryma Christian added 15 points and Irma Hagins also reached double figures with 11 points.  Reece Evans chipped in with eight points. 

 

5-8 Sr. Kylie Hudgins led Harrison County with 13 points.  Baylee Hudgins added nine points.  Gabrielle Hatterick recorded seven points and passed the ball for several assists and displayed good court vision.  Kara Hines and Keylee  Custard each scored six points.

Simon Kenton vs. Paul Laurence Dunbar

 

Simon Kenton coach Jeff Stowers started the following lineup: 5-8 Jr. Belle Bach, 5-5 So. Ava Slusser, 6-0 Sr. Serenti Webb, 5-4 Sr. Alexis Baker, and 5-3 7th Grade Brynli Pernell.  Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Nick Runyon countered with 5-9 So. Amber Brandon, 5-8 Sr. Maddy Ridge, 5-10 Sr. Quinn Arnold, 5-9 Sr.Kenzi Sizemore, and 5-9 Sr. Aziah Campbell.

 

Dunbar led 45-36 after three quarters but Simon Kenton outscored the Lady Bulldogs 23-11 in the final quarter to have a 59-56 advantage in the combined scores.  Simon Kenton was led by Alexis Baker with 18 points including four three point baskets.  Serenti Webb, who missed last year with an injury, added 11 points.  5-10 Jr. Emilee Eggleston chipped in with seven points.

 

Amber Brandon led Dunbar with 15 points including three three point baskets.  Maddy Ridge added 10 points including two three point baskets.  Quinn Arnold also scored 10 points including two three point baskets.  Aziah Campbell chipped in with eight points.

North Oldham vs. Madison Central

 

North Oldham coach Mac McIntosh started the following lineup: 5-6 Jr. Katelyn Vize, 5-6 Sr. Kylie Vize, 5-11 Sr. Riley Neal, 5-4 So. Katherine Smith, and 5-5 So. Gracie Sipes.  Madison central coach Brad Lovely countered with 5-10 So. Bailey Hensley, 5-7 Jr. Chloe freeman, 5-9 Sr. Kessaney Melton, 5-7 Fr. Brittany Campbell, and 5-6 Fr. Nataya Strader.

 

Madison Central captured the combined score totals win with a 73-51 victory over North Oldham.  Bailey Hensley led Madison Central with 25 points and 11 rebounds.  Nataya Straded added 15 points and Brittany Campbell recorded 13 points and did a great job of pushing the tempo and directing the offense. 

 

Riley Neal was unstoppable in the lane and led North Oldham with 29 points.  5-6 Sr. Alaina Leber added eight points and Katelyn Vize chipped in with seven points.

Rockcastle County vs. Tates Creek

 

Rockcastle County coach Chrysti Noble started the following lineup: 6-1 So. Talynne Shearer, 6-0 Jr. Keelee King, 5-10 So. Alexa Cameron Cash, 5-3 Sr. Addison McClure, and 5-1 Jr. Karlee Smith.  Tates Creek coach Matt Yates countered with 5-8 Sr. Caty Armishaw, 5-8 Sr. Joyce Mukalamusi, 5-11 Sr. Elyse Baker, 5-2 Sr. Alisce Lyvers, and 5-5 Sr. Maddie Kauffman.

 

Rockcastle County outscored Tates Creek 26-19 in the final quarter to earn a combined scores victory of 82-79 over Tates Creek.  Keelee King led Rockcastle County with 25 points including five three point baskets.  Talynne Shearer added 23 points.

 

Elyse Baker led Tates Creek with 21 points.  Maddie Kauffman added 12 points including three three point baskets.  5-7 Sr. Jameela Shalash and Jada Bell recorded 11 and 10 points respectively.

Anderson County vs. North Bullitt

 

Anderson County coach Clay Birdwhistell started the following lineup: 6-0 Sr. Paige Serafini, 5-11 Fr. Lainey Johnson, 6-1 Sr. Jacie Chesser, 5-7 So. Jenna Satterly, and 5-8 Sr. Kinley Lucas.  Amiya Jenkins one of the leading candidates for Miss Basketball did not play today for Anderson County.  North Bullitt coach Christopher Downey countered with 5-6 8th Grade Kylie Downey, 5-7 Jr. Ally Klutey, 6-0 Fr. Addison Soutar, 5-5 Jr. Riley Dawson, and 5-4 So. Taylor McKnight.

 

Anderson County utilized their defense and perimeter shooting to defeat North Bullitt by the score of 82-40.  Paige Serafini led Anderson County with 27 points including five three point baskets.  Lainey Johnson added 21 points including three three point baskets.  Jacie Chesser recorded 13 points and 5-5 Jr. Jenna Beasley chipped in with 12 points including three three point baskets. 

 

5-3 Jr. Emily Thorpe led North Bullitt with 13 points including two three point baskets.  Ally Klutey added eight points including two three point baskets.  5-7 Fr. Gracey Egnor chipped in with seven points.

Newport Central Catholic vs. Scott County

 

Newport Central Catholic coach Ralph Meyer started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Rylee Turner, 5-8 Jr. Joelle Kinnett, 5-4 Sr. Ella Meyer, 5-4 Fr. Caroline Eaglin, and 5-2 Sr. Emily Heck.  Scott County coach Steve Helton countered with 5-7 Jr. Tyra Young, 5-4 Sr. Brianna Penney, 6-1 Sr. Kenady Tompkins, 5-6 Fr. Maleiyah Moore, and 5-6 Sr. Emma Price.

 

Newport Central Catholic defeated Scott County by the score of 71-54 as Scott County was charged with 40 fouls and 27 turnovers as Newport Central was 35 of 49 from the charity stripe.  Rylee Turner led Newport Central Catholic with 34 points including 25 of 30 from the three point line, 11 rebounds, and seven steals.  Caroline Eaglin added 19 points.

 

Kenady Tompkins led Scott County with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and six blocked shots.  Tyra Young added nine points, seven rebounds, and three steals.

This was an excellent day of basketball with several good teams and some very talented players.  Some teams especially with a lot of returning players appeared to be in mid-season form while others were experimenting with rotations and strategies for the upcoming season.  A special thanks to Coach Steve Helton and the Scott County staff for the hospitality extended me during the event.  This event was well run and the teams definitely got the opportunity to get in a good work out to prepare for the season.

Raceland 48  Bishop Brossart 7 – Jules Farrow carried the ball 13 times for 115 yards and three touchdowns.

 

Pikeville 50  Williamsburg 21 – Isaac McNamee completed 14 of 18 passes for 202 yards and five touchdowns.

 

Russellville 21  Newport Central Catholic 0 – Jovan Gamble carried the ball 15 times for 86 yards and two touchdowns.

Middlesboro 33  West Carter 6 – Cayden Grigsby completed 10 of 13 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns and carried the ball 19 times for 89 yards and one touchdown.

 

Beechwood 50  Walton-Verona 6 – Cameron Hergott completed five of nine passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns and carried the ball 12 times for 236 yards and four touchdowns.

 

Lexington Christian Academy 49  Owensboro Catholic 21 – Xavier Brown carried the ball 12 times for 177 yards and three touchdowns and caught two passes for 42 yards and one touchdown.

 

Mayfield 48  Green County 6 – Zane Cartwright completed seven of nine passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns.

East Carter 38  Mason County 10 – Charlie Terry carried the ball 17 times for 236 yards and four touchdowns.

 

Belfry 41  Bell County 20 – Isaac Dixon carried the ball 18 times for 177 yards and three touchdowns.

 

Glasgow 48  Bardstown 42 – Keiran Stockton carried the ball 29 times for 213 yards and three touchdowns.

 

Paducah Tilghman 41  Christian Academy of Louisville 34 – Jack James completed 14 of 25 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns.

Boyle County 51  Scott 14 – Avery Bodner carried the ball 19 times for 213 yards and five touchdowns.

Frederick Douglass defeated Southwestern by the score of 37-6.  Frederick Douglass recorded 18 first downs and 339 yards of total offense.  The Broncos were penalized three times for 45 yards.  Southwestern recorded 16 first downs and 339 yards of total offense.  The Warriors were penalized seven times for 65 yards and had a pass intercepted.

TJ Horton led Frederick Douglass’ ground game with 123 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.  Ty Bryant carried the ball four times for 70 yards and two touchdowns.  Samuel Cornett added 11 yards and a touchdown on four carries.  Samuel Cornett completed 12 of 17 passes for 126 yards.  Cameron Dunn caught seven passes for 59 yards.  Dane Key added two receptions for 46 yards.  Dane Key returned one kickoff for 22 yards.  Thomas Howard scored a touchdown on a fumble into the end zone by a teammate.  Caden Johnson led the defense with eight solo tackles.  Ty Bryant added five solo and one assisted tackles.  Jamarion Harkless and Tashawn Benford each recorded five solo tackles.  Jeremiah Lowe intercepted a pass.

Tanner Wright led Southwestern’s ground game with 115 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.  Giddeon Brainard carried the ball 10 times for 45 yards.  Ryan Anderson completed 10 of 15 passes for 95 yards with one interception.  Collin Burton completed three of seven passes for 25 yards.  Giddeon Brainard caught five passes for 46 yards.  Maison Hibbard added two receptions for 30 yards.  Brody Perkins recorded three receptions for 30 yards.  Connor Crisp returned one kickoff for 14 yards.  Giddeon Brainard led the defense with 10 solo and eight assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses and recovered a fumble.  Christian Walden added four solo and two assisted tackles.

Middlesboro defeated West Carter by the score of 33-6.  Middlesboro recorded 19 first downs and 473 yards of total offense.  The Yellowjackets were penalized nine times for 85 yards and had one pass intercepted.  West Carter recorded six first downs and 102 yards of total offense.  The Comets were penalized twice for 25 yards and had four passes intercepted. 

Caleb Bogonko led Middlesboro’s ground game with 191 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries.  Cayden Grigsby carried the ball 19 times for 89 yards and two touchdowns.  Cayden Grigsby completed 10 of 13 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  Jay West caught four passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns.  Kameron Wilson added two receptions for 49 yards.  Logan Daniels recorded two receptions for 46 yards.  Eric Helton chipped in with two receptions for 27 yards.  Tyler Kelley and Spencer Wheeler led the defense with seven assisted tackles each.  Will Smith intercepted two passes with total return yardage of 43 yards.  Ryan Foster and Kameron Wilson each intercepted a pass.

Cole Crampton led West Carter’s ground game with 56 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.  Eli Estepp completed four of 17 passes for 46 yards with four interceptions.  Blake McGlone caught three passes for 38 yards.  Jackson Bond added one reception for seven yards.  Isaac Bond led the defense with two solo and six assisted tackles.  Neil Lusher added three solo and five assisted tackles.  Conner Greene recorded four solo and four assisted tackles.  Kaden Wilson intercepted one pass.

Woodford County defeated Covington Catholic tonight by the score of 28-14.  Woodford County recorded 21 first downs and 382 yards of total offense.  The Yellow Jackets were penalized nine times for 49 yards and lost a fumble.  Covington Catholic recorded six first downs and 205 yards of total offense.  The Colonels were penalized twice for 15 yards and lost a fumble.

 

Preston Stacy led Woodford County’s ground game with 115 yards on 16 carries.  Bryce Patterson carried the ball 15 times for 46 yards and a touchdown.  Jackson Geilear recorded 42 yards and a touchdown on six carries.  Bryce Patterson completed 15 of 18 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown.  Aden Nelson caught five passes for 74 yards.  Preston Stacy added five receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown.  Jackson Geilear caught two passes for 26 yards.  Jackson Geilear led the defense with five solo tackles.  Makhi Smith added three solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a one yard loss.  Aden Nelson recorded two solo and two assisted tackles. 

Preston Agee led Covington Catholic’s ground game with 64 yards on 14 carries.  Preston Agee completed four of 12 passes for 124 yards and one touchdown.  Zion Mason caught one pass for 86 yards and a touchdown.  Adam Holtz added one reception for 36 yards.  Zion Mason returned one kickoff for 99 yards and a touchdown.  Aiden Jones led the defense with nine solo and three assisted tackles.  David Sullivan added six solo and three assisted tackles.  Reid Hummel and Colin Gastright each recorded six solo tackles.  Nick Darpel added five solo and two assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 15 yards.  Trevor Wilson recovered a fumble.

East Carter defeated Mason County by the score of 38-10.  Mason County had chances but East Carter’s defense had the bend but not break mentality and kept Mason County out of the end zone on five possessions inside the 10 yard line.  East Carter relied on their patented ground-and-pound offense to control the outcome of the contest.  East Carter recorded 17 first downs and 459 yards of total offense.  The Raiders were penalized six times for 50 yards and had one pass intercepted.  Mason County recorded 19 first downs and 359 yards of total offense.  The Royals were penalized eight times for 68 yards and lost a fumble.

Charlie Terry led East Carter’s ground game with 231 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries.  Isaac Boggs carried the ball six times for 99 yards.  Kanyon Kozee recorded 61 yards on six carries.  Nikk Barnett also ran for a touchdown.  Kanyon Kozee completed six of 11 passes for 62 yards with one interception.  Connor Goodman caught four passes for 37 yards.  Isaac Boggs added two receptions for 25 yards.

Brady Sanders led Mason County’s ground game with 45 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.  Ashton Adams carried the ball seven times for 41 yards.  Keshaun Thomas completed 12 of 21 passes for 153 yards.  Ashton Adams completed nine of 15 passes for 112 yards.  Anthony Bozeman caught five passes for 74 yards.  Terrell Henry added four receptions for 61 yards.  Khristian Walton recorded five receptions for 60 yards.  Isaac Marshall added three receptions for 51 yards.

Raceland defeated Bishop Brossart by the score of 48-7.  Raceland recorded 22 first downs and 442 yards of total offense.  The Rams were penalized seven times for 75 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.  Bishop Brossart recorded 12 first downs and 169 yards of total offense.  They were penalized eight times for 72 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.

Jules Farrow led Raceland’s ground game with 115 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries.  Noah Wallace carried the ball 11 times for 56 yards and two touchdowns.  Isaac Browning added 45 yards on seven carries.  Logan Lundy completed eight of 14 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  Connor Hughes caught five passes for 144 yards and a touchdown.  Noah Wallace caught a 24 yard touchdown reception.  Xander Jenkins recorded three solo tackles all resulting in losses.  Ben Taylor and Cole Conlin each recorded two solo tackles.  Cole Conlon recovered a fumble and Connor Hughes intercepted a pass.

Jed Martin led Bishop Brossart’s ground game with 105 yards on 18 carries.  Jacob Leicht completed eight of 18 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown with one interception.  Sam Willike caught three passes for 35 yards.  Jed Martin caught a touchdown pass.  Jed Martin returned three kickoffs for 39 yards.  Sam Willike returned one kickoff for 23 yards.  Jed Martin intercepted a pass he returned 25 yards.  Austin Schadler recovered a fumble.

Logan County defeated Spencer County by the score of 52-14.  Logan County recorded 27 first downs and 575 yards of total offense.  They were penalized eight times for 100 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.  Spencer County recorded 10 first downs and 127 yards of total offense.  They were penalized twice for 10 yards, lost a fumble, and had two passes intercepted.

Ryan Rayno led Logan County’s ground game with 175 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.  Wyatt Blake carried the ball eight times for 102 yards and a touchdown.  Davin Yates recorded 72 yards and a touchdown on five carries.  JunVontre Dillard chipped in with 35 yards and a touchdown on four carries.  Davin Yates completed 19 of 25 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown with one interception.  Wyatt Blake caught seven passes for 67 yards.  Zane Batten added five receptions for 31 yards.  Elijah Hawkins caught a 23 yard touchdown pass.  Wyatt Blake returned one punt for 13 yards.  Wyatt Blake returned two kickoffs for 23 yards.  Elijah Hawkins led the defense with nine solo and five assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses.  Ryland Nichols added five solo tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses.  Wyatt Blake intercepted one pass he returned 44 yards for a touchdown.  Jack Delaney also intercepted a pass and Jaxon Kenner recovered a fumble.

Eli Ballard led Spencer County’s ground game with 31 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.  Wade Hutt carried the ball eight times for 19 yards.  Gabe Bowling completed three of 15 passes for 50 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions.  Kellen Marksbury caught one pass for 30 yards.  Brice Roark added two receptions for 20 yards and a touchdown .Kellen Marksbury returned three kickoffs for 103 yards.  Kellen Marksbury intercepted a pass.

The score was tied 14-14 at halftime but Lexington Christian Academy went on a 21-0 run in the third quarter on their way to a 49-21 victory over Owensboro Catholic.  LCA recorded 20 first downs and 463 yards of total offense.  The Eagles were penalized 10 times for 90 yards and lost a fumble.  Owensboro Catholic recorded 21 first downs and 304 yards of total offense.  The Aces were penalized five times for 40 yards and had three passes intercepted.

Xavier Brown led LCA’s ground game with 177 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries.  Jeremiah Riffle carried the ball six times for 73 yards and a touchdown.  JVeontae Emerson recorded 32 yards on six carries.  Drew Nieves completed 11 of 14 passes for 106 yards and three touchdowns.  Mason Moore caught five passes for 43 yards and a touchdown.  Xavier Brown added two receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown.  Jeffrey Selby also caught a touchdown pass.  Johnny Bruce Drake led the defense with five solo and one assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses.  Jeffrey Selby added four solo and three assisted tackles.  Will Orberson recorded five solo tackles.  Parker Chaney intercepted two passes and Jeffrey Selby intercepted one pass. 

Hunter Monroe led Owensboro Catholic’s ground game with 22 yards on 13 carries.  Lincoln Clancy completed 22 of 41 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions.  Braden Mundy caught nine passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns.  William T. Carrico added six receptions for 55 yards.  Mitchell Sims added a touchdown reception.  Hunter Monroe returned four kickoffs for 42 yards.  Vince Carrico led the defense with 11 solo and three assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses.  William T. Carrico added three solo and six assisted tackles with 2.5 of his tackles resulting in losses.  Reid Clark recorded four solo and three assisted tackles.

Madison Central dominated tonight’s game led by a great performance by the offensive line, a stellar performance by RB Brady Hensley, and a ferocious defensive effort to defeat Dunbar by the score of 43-7.  Hensley benefitted from the gaping holes opened by the line to run for 320 yards and five touchdowns on 28 carries and the swarming defense recovered a fumble, intercepted two passes and recorded 13 tackles for losses.  The defensive front led by Edgren Sweat, Kyran Jackson, and Caden Ellington hurried the Dunbar quarterbacks all evening.  The only concern for the Indians tonight was they suffered three turnovers of their own and was penalized nine times for 88 yards.  Madison Central recorded 18 first downs and 445 yards of total offense.  The Indians were penalized nine times for 88 yards, lost two fumbles, and had a pass intercepted.  Paul Laurence Dunbar recorded 13 first downs and 157 yards of total offense.  The Bulldogs were penalized three times for 12 yards, lost one fumble, and had two passes intercepted.

Brady Hensley led the Madison Central ground game with 320 yards and five touchdowns on 28 carries.  Adrien Parks carried the ball 10 times for 64 yards.  Hagan Harrison recorded 52 yards on six carries.  Hagan Harrison completed one of four passes for -2 yards with one interception.  Brady Hensley completed his only pass for 29 yards.  Jeffrey Kinley caught one pass for 29 yards.  Brock Eads led the defense with six solo and five assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling four yards.  Ayden Pierson added three solo and six assisted tackles.  Edgren Sweat recorded three solo and five assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling two yards and scored on a 29 yard interception return.  Hayden Kiser chipped in with three solo and five assisted tackles.  Caden Ellington recorded two solo and six assisted tackles with 3.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling eight yards.  Brady Worrix chipped in with seven assisted tackles and Kyran Jackson added three solo and three assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling nine yards.  Jeffrey Kinley intercepted a pass he returned 34 yards and Jake Muntz recovered a fumble.

Kamarion Robinson led Dunbar’s ground game with 59 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries.  Justin Bayubahe carried the ball four times for 23 yards.  Cole Colony completed eight of 16 passes for 47 yards with two interceptions.  Noah Chapman caught five passes for 24 yards.  Erik White added four receptions for 29 yards.  Erik White returned five kickoffs for 73 yards with a long return of 22 yards.  Noah Chapman and Kaylib Nelson each returned one kickoff for 19 and 16 yards respectively.  Jose Kazadi II led the defense with two solo and five assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a two yard loss.  Grant Angel added three solo and three assisted tackles and intercepted a pass.  Brent McKitric recorded three solo and two assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a seven yard loss.  Jakobe Biggerstaff recovered a fumble and Brendan Bradley intercepted a pass.
