Frederick Douglass coach Daryl Moberly started the following lineup: 5-9 Jr. Allison Wallace, 5-5 Sr. Kourtesy Lee, 6-0 Fr. Ayanna-Sarai Darrington, 5-0 Sr. Shania Mayes, and 5-5 Sr. Kasia Parks.  Scott County coach Steve Helton countered with 6-0 Sr. Kaylie Wise, 5-7 Jr. Brianna Kenney, 6-0 Sr. Kenady Tompkins, 5-6 Fr.Maleiyah Moore, and 5-6 Jr. Emma Price.

 

Scott County scored 38 points off 36 Frederick Douglass turnovers, recorded 18 steals, and blocked five shots in a 75-65 victory.  Scott County led 46-21 at halftime but Frederick Douglass outscored the Lady Cardinals 44-29 in the second half but it was too little too late for the Lady Broncos.  Scott County shot 33.3% from the field including 10 of 31 from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 17 of 23 free throws and pulled down 42 rebounds.  Frederick Douglass shot 45.1% from the field including four of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Broncos connected on 15 of 30 free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 23 Scott County turnovers.

 

Emma Price led Scott County with 22 points including five three point baskets, three assists, and five steals.  Brianna Penney added 19 points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, two assists, and five steals.  Kenady Tompkins recorded 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots, and three steals.  Kaylie Wise chipped in with eight points, 10 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Maleiyah Moore added eight points including two three point baskets, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

 

Ayanna-Sarai Darrington led Frederick Douglass with 24 points and 12 rebounds.  Darrington was 10 of 12 from the field and four of eight from the free throw line.  5-3 8th Grade Kate Baker added nine points on three three point baskets and three rebounds.  Kasia Parks recorded eight points, five rebounds, and five steals.  Kourtesy Lee chipped in with seven points and four rebounds.

Frederick Douglass defeated Lafayette by the score of 92-59.  Frederick Douglass shot 54.4% from the field including eight of 23 from the three point line.  The Broncos connected on 10 of 11 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 19 Lafayette turnovers.  Lafayette shot 37.3% from the field including three of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Generals connected on 12 of 22 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 18 Frederick Douglass turnovers.

 

Tyson Barrett led Frederick Douglass with 24 points, 20 rebounds, two assists, and five blocked shots.  Barrett was 11 of 13 from the field including one of one from beyond the arc, and one of one free throws.  Kai Simpson added 24 points including two three point baskets and two steals.  DaShawn Jackson recorded 22 points including three three point baskets, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

 

Abe Nelson led Lafayette with 10 points and four rebounds.  Campbell DeYoung and 6-2 Sr. Torri Turner each recorded nine points.

Madison Central shot the ball extremely well in a 96-60 victory over Corbin.  The Indians were 54.8% from the field including 14 of 24 from beyond the arc, and 14 of 17 from the free throw line.  Madison Central pulled down 48 rebounds and scored 20 points off 13 Corbin turnovers.  Corbin shot 39.7% from the field including five of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Redhounds connected on five of 10 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Madison Central turnovers.

 

Jaylen Davis led Madison Central with 25 points including seven three point baskets and three rebounds.  Will Hardin added 23 points including five of six free throws, eight rebounds, and three assists.  Kole Browne recorded 20 points including six three point baskets, four rebounds, and three assists.  Braeden Ray chipped in with 12 points, five rebounds, six assists, and two steals.  6-1 Fr. Henry Clay trailed 20-8 after the first quarter but the Blue Devils rallied for a 75-65 victory over Shelby County.  There were five lead changes and six ties in this game.  Henry Clay shot 52.8% from the field including six of 16 from the three point line.  The Blue Devils connected on 13 of 20 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 16 Shelby County turnovers.  Shelby County shot 61% from the field including five of eight from beyond the arc.  The Rockets connected on 10 of 12 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored seven points off seven Henry Clay turnovers.

 

Aziel Blackwell led Henry Clay with 30 points including nine of 13 free throws, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  5-8 So. Konlin Brown added 12 points on four three point baskets.  Kanye Henderson recorded nine points, three assists, and two steals.  6-0 So. Mason Hawkins chipped in with eight points.

The old saying in basketball is “next man up” when you are playing short handed but tonight it was “next woman up” as Hailey Ward entered the starting lineup and led Great Crossing to a 61-51 victory over Frankfort with 19 points including five three point baskets and seven rebounds.  Great Crossing shot 46.4% from the field including nine of 29 from the three point line.  The Warhawks were zero of six from the free throw line, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 16 Frankfort turnovers.  Frankfort shot 43.2% from the field including four of eight from beyond the arc.  The Lady Panthers connected on 15 of 22 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored seven points off 10 Great Crossing turnovers.

 

Hailey Ward led Great Crossing with 19 points including five three point baskets and seven rebounds.  Braylee McMath added 16 points, five rebounds, six assists, and two steals.  Rachel Smith recorded nine points.  Ava Schureman also scored nine points, pulled down five rebounds, and recorded two steals.

 

Jamaya Chenault led Frankfort with 17 points, four rebounds, and two steals.  Rachel Shropshire added 13 points including seven of eight free throws, and seven rebounds.  Haley Close recorded 10 points including three three point baskets and four rebounds.  Brianna Walker chipped in with six points and six rebounds.

Two of the best teams in the 12th Region played tonight and despite Southwestern being without the services of their leading scorer 5-6 Sr. Alexa Smiddy lived up to the expectations as Wayne County captured a hard earned 64-58 victory.  Southwestern trailed 46-42 entering the final quarter and went to their full court pressing defense and was met with mixed results.  While they did force some turnovers Wayne County was able to score some easy baskets at the other end and 5-7 Jr. Kenzi Upchurch took advantage and scored the last 12 points of the game.

 

Wayne County shot 44% from the field including seven of 16 from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 13 of 23 free throws and pulled down 32 rebounds.  Southwestern shot 31.5% from the field including five of 23 from beyond the arc.  The Warriors connected on 19 of 23 free throws and pulled down 28 rebounds.

 

5-10 Sr. Macey Blevins led Wayne County with 18 points including three three point baskets and 10 rebounds.  5-10 Jr. Mallory Campbell added 15 points including two three point basket and six rebounds.  5-7 Jr. Kenzi Upchurch recorded 14 points and eight rebounds.

 

5-5 Fr. Kinsey Molden led Southwestern with 13 points including two three point baskets.  5-9 Fr. Peyton Acey added 13 points including four of four free throws and nine rebounds.  5-8 Sr. Marissa Loveless recorded eight points and five rebounds.  5-5 So. 6-1 Sr. Hannah Roberts scored in the paint with seven seconds left in the game to give Boyd County a 66-65 comeback victory over Bethlehem.  Bethlehem got off to a blazing start and led 25-14 after the first quarter and maintained a 39-24 advantage at halftime.  Boyd County began their comeback in the third quarter and was aided by Bethlehem’s 5-10 Sr. Ella Thompson picking up her fourth foul in the third quarter.  Boyd County actually led 62-57 with a little over one minute remaining in the game but Bethlehem rallied and held a 65-64 lead with seconds remaining in the game setting the stage for Hannah Roberts’ heroics.

 

Boyd County shot 44.2% from the field including seven of 21 from the three point line.  The Lady Lions connected on 13 of 16 free throws and pulled down 34 rebounds.  Bethlehem shot 38.7% from the field including eight of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Banshees connected on nine of 15 free throws and pulled down 37 rebounds.

 

6-1 Sr. Hannah Roberts led Boyd County with 19 points including six of six free throws and pulled down 10 rebounds.  6-0 Fr. Audrey Biggs added 18 points including four of four free throws and pulled down six rebounds.  5-7 Sr. Harley Paynter recorded 14 points including three three point baskets and nine rebounds.  5-8 Sr. Bailey Rucker chipped in with seven points and five rebounds.

 

6-0 So. Emma Filiatreau led Bethlehem with 15 points including two three point baskets and 14 rebounds.  5-5 Sr. Amelia Hodges added 14 points including four three point baskets.  6-2 So. Xaviara Smalley recorded 13 points including five of six free throws and seven rebounds.  5-5 Fr. Callie Thurmond chipped in with eight points and 5-10 Sr. Ella Thompson added seven points and seven rebounds.

Wayne County trailed 40-36 at halftime but rallied to earn an 82-74 road victory over Mercer County.  Wayne County shot 42.6% from the field including 10 of 20 from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 14 of 20 free throws and pulled down 42 rebounds.  Mercer County shot 49.1% from the field including seven of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Titans connected on 15 of 27 free throws and pulled down 30 rebounds.

 

5-10 Sr. Macey Blevins and led Wayne County with 20 points including six of eight free throws, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists.  5-10 Jr. Mallory Campbell added 19 points and 11 rebounds.  5-9 Jr. Amber Jones recorded 13 points.  5-5 Jr. Mariah Bowlin chipped in with 12 points on four three point baskets.  5-7 Jr. Kenzie Upchurch added 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

 

5-6 So. Anna Kate Drakeford led Mercer County with 26 points and six rebounds.  Drakeford was nine of 11 from the field including one of two from beyond the arc, and seven of 11 free throws.  5-9 So. Mitchell Rylee led Covington Catholic with 17 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.  Evan Ipsaro added 17 points including two three point baskets, and three assists.  Chandler Starks recorded 11 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists.  Colin McHale chipped in with 11 points including two three point baskets, two rebounds, and two assists.  Donovan Stocks added eight points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  6-1 So.
