Lexington Christian Academy raced out to an 11-3 first quarter lead over Berea but the Lady Pirates rallied for a 35-31 victory.  The score was tied twice and there were four lead changes in the game.  Berea shot 31% from the field including one of seven from the three point line.  The Lady Pirates connected on 16 of 24 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 15 LCA turnovers.  LCA shot 38.2% from the field including one of eight from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on four of seven free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored nine points off 13 Berea turnovers.

Madison Howell led Berea with 11 points including seven of eight free throws and five rebounds.  Mackenzie Howell added eight points, four rebounds, and two steals.  5-0 Fr. Maddy King recorded seven points and Abigail Beard pulled down seven rebounds.

Emilie Teall led Lexington Christian Academy with eight points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots.  Gracie Royalty added eight points and five rebounds.  Mackenzie Buckler recorded seven points, two assists, and two steals.

Garrard County coach Ryan Young started the following lineup: 6-4 Sr. Brayden Sebastian, 6-1 Jr. Hudson Cornett, 6-1 Jr. Brandon Brooks, 5-4 8^th Grade Montavin Quisenberry, and 6-0 Sr. Trevor Holman.  Madison Southern coach Austin Newton countered with 6-2 Sr. Jonah Wooten, 6-1 Sr. Chad Fugate, 6-4 So. Nate Turner, 5-4 Sr. Colby Sebastian, and 5-11 Sr. Hunter Buchanan.

Madison Southern defeated Garrard County by the score of 80-59.  Madison Southern shot 52.7% from the field including 10 of 29 from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 12 of 19 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 29 points off 18 Garrard County.  Garrard County shot 40.8% from the field including five of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Golden Lions connected on 14 of 23 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 12 Madison Southern turnovers.

Chad Fugate led Madison Southern with 26 points including five three point baskets.  Fugate also joined the 1,000 point club at the 7:30 point in the third quarter and finished the game with 1,010 points for his career.  Nate Turner added 14 points.  6-0 Sr. Samuel Lee recorded 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals.  Hunter Buchanan chipped in with nine points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, and two assists.

Brayden Sebastian led Garrard County with 24 points including two three point baskets, eight of nine free throws, seven rebounds, and two assists.  Sebastian scored all his points in the second half.  Brandon Brooks added 12 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.  Hudson Cornett recorded 11 points including two three point baskets and six rebounds.

Madison Central coach Brad Lovely started the following lineup: 5-10 Jr. Raelynn Miller, 5-9 Sr. Taleya Todd, 5-11 Sr. Jekauri McKeithen, 5-4 Fr. Eve Carter, and 5-5 Jr. Brianna Bierbaum.  Clay County coach James Burchell countered with 5-9 Sr. Kaylee Mathis, 5-9 Jr.Allie Phillips, 6-1 Jr. Alexis Lewis, 5-4 Jr. Taylor Asher, and 5-7 So. Courtney Jones.

The 1989 Girls State High School Champions Clay Tigers were honored before the game on their 30^th anniversary of their championship.  Coach Donnie Gray was the moderator and held the crowd spell bound with his often emotional, often humorous, and always entertaining account of the season and the championship run.  Clay County had to beat #6 Henry Clay, #8 Oldham County, #1 Manual , and finally defeated Clark County in a triple overtime grueling contest.  This was accomplished with Tourney MVP Kim Jones and All Tournament selection Susan Feltner fouling out of the game.  Coach Gray made the comments, they were not fast, could not jump, could not shoot but that they played together and played for each other and got along with each other and he also stated he never had a problem with the parents on this team.  The speech ended with Coach Gray asking the emotional crowd to stand and give this team one last standing ovation.  A lot of thoughts went through my mind as I have done stats for Madison Central for several years, known and considered Coach James Burchell who was an assistant on that team  a friend I have known for many years and have seen Kaylee Mathis grow up on a basketball floor.  This was one of those special moments I treasure and will never forget on the basketball court.

Clay County took an early lead, survived a Madison Central rally and pulled away late for a 55-42 victory.  Madison Central pulled to within four; 46-42 with 3:03 to go in the game when they lost Taleya Todd who had scored 19 points via the foul route.  Eve Carter was later ejected from the game and Clay County pulled away for the victory.

Clay County shot 47.2% from the field including five of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Tigers connected on 16 of 20 free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 18 Madison Central turnovers. Madison Central shot 43.9% from the field including one of nine from beyond the arc.  The Indians connected on five of six free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 14 Clay County turnovers.

Taylor Asher led Clay County with 21 points including eight of 10 free throws, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Kaylee Mathis added 18 points including two three point baskets, four of four free throws, three rebounds, two assists, and five steals. 

Taleya Todd had an excellent game today and led Madison Central with 19 points and two steals.  The “double-double” machine Jekauri McKeithen added 12 points and 12 rebounds.  Eve Carter recorded two points, six rebounds, three assists, and six steals.

Madison Southern trailed 35-31 after three quarters but the Lady Eagles rallied fueled by a three point bomb by Morgan Flannery to take a 45-43 victory over Madison Central.  The Indians had a chance for the tie or win but missed a mid range shot for the tie.  The score was tied seven times and there were 10 lead changes in the game.  The free throw line was the Achilles heel for the Indians as they were only eight of 23 from the charity stripe.

Madison Southern shot 29.3% from the field including three of 19 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on eight of 16 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored eight points off 19 Madison Central turnovers.  Madison Central shot 44.4% from the field including three of five from beyond the arc.  The Indians connected on eight of 23 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 13 Madison Southern turnovers.

Macie Daniels led Madison Southern with 10 points, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Skylar Sparks added 10 points and five rebounds.  Samantha Cornelison recorded 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists.  Morgan Flannery chipped in with eight points including two three point baskets and five rebounds.  Aleigh Richardson added four points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and four steals.
