Bryan Station vs. Madison Central (Girls)

Bryan Station coach Brian Hall started the following lineup: 5-8 Sr. Kelynn Clay, 5-7 Sr. Kristen McGeachy, 5-8 Sr. Amilleon Black, 5-0 So. Tori Godoy, and 5-3 Sr. Stephanie Bueno.  Madison Central coach Robert Cooksey countered with 5-10 Jr. Jekauri McKeithen, 5-7 Jr. Taleya Todd, 5-9 Sr. Logan Hudson, 5-6 Sr. Kelsey Powell, and 5-6 Sr. Madison Barnard.

Tori Godoy hit a runner in the lane with less than 10 seconds remaining on the clock to give Bryan Station a 54-53 victory over Madison Central.  However the drama was far from over.  Madison Central rapidly advanced the ball up the floor and took the ball hard to the rim.  There appeared to be a lot of contact but nothing was called and the ball was knocked loose and lay tantalizingly in the lane with nobody able to gain possession as time expired.  The referees exited the floor immediately and while the Madison Central coaches were visibly upset the comment I overheard was that there should have been a call, either blocking or charging.  From my vantage point there was probably contact but I could not have made the correct call.  However it takes nothing away from an intense, hard played game with six ties and 17 lead changes.  Madison Central had a six point lead in the final quarter but was not able to shut down Bryan Station’s three point attack (10 three point baskets).

Bryan Station shot 33.3% from the field including 10 of 32 from the three point line.  The Lady Defenders connected on four of 10 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 19 Madison Central turnovers.  Madison Central shot 46.9% from the field including one of seven from beyond the arc.  The Lady Indians connected on six of 15 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 10 Bryan Station turnovers.

Kelynn Clay (why doesn’t she get more publicity?) led Bryan Station with 19 points including four three point baskets, three rebounds, and four steals.  Tori Godoy added nine points, five rebounds, and four assists.  Stephanie Bueno also scored nine points on three three point baskets and four assists.  5-7 Fr. Tania Woodall recorded six points on two three point baskets, four assists, and two steals.  Amilleon Black pulled down 11 rebounds.

Taleya Todd led Madison Central tonight with 18 points, six rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and three steals.  Todd was only charged with four turnovers despite logging 32 minutes and having the ball in her hands for a lot of time.  Jekauri McKeithen (the double-double machine) added 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Madison Barnard recorded seven points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Kelsey Powell chipped in with four points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Logan Hudson made her presence felt in the paint with four points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.

Sacred Heart Academy pulled away in the final quarter to defeat Mercy Academy by a score of 62-45.  Sacred Heart shot 49% from the field including five of 17 from the three point line.  The Valkyries connected on seven of 15 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 18 Mercy Academy turnovers.  Mercy Academy shot 25.9% from the field including three of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Jaguars connected on 14 of 25 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 16 Sacred Heart turnovers.

Kristen Clemons led Sacred Heart Academy with 14 points, 17 rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots.  Destinee Marshall added 14 points, seven assists, and three steals.  Ashlee Harris recorded 11 points including three three point baskets.  5-9 Jr. Callie Birk added nine points and six rebounds.

TaZiah Jenks led Mercy Academy with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.  Hope Sivori added 16 points including three three point baskets and five rebounds.

Menifee County led 33-19 early in the third quarter but had to withstand a Henry Clay rally to earn a 58-57 victory.  Menifee County shot 54.5% from the field including two of eight from the three point line.  The Lady Cats connected on 20 of 24 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored eight points off 12 Henry Clay turnovers.  Henry Clay shot 41.8% from the field including five of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Blue Devils connected on six of nine free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 16 Menifee County turnovers.

Emma Hacker led Menifee County with 35 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Hacker was 11 of 14 free throws including one of two from beyond the arc, and 12 of 14 free throws.  Kelsey Woodard added 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots.

Rockcastle County raced out to a 20-7 first quarter lead and was never challenged in a 55-34 victory over Madison Central.  Rockcastle County shot 43.8% from the field including three of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Rockets connected on 10 of 17 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 18 Madison Central turnovers.  Madison Central shot 27.5% from the field including two of seven from beyond the arc.  The Lady Indians connected on 10 of 15 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 18 Rockcastle County turnovers.

Casey Coleman led Rockcastle County with 14 points, six rebounds. three assists, and four steals.  5-6 Sr. Keelee King added 10 points and five rebounds.  Shelby Newland recorded nine points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals.  Lindsey Jones chipped in with six points and four rebounds.

Delaney Enlow led Woodford County with 13 points and 16 rebounds.  Kayla Harlow added nine points and 12 rebounds.  Nia Jaco recorded eight points and eight rebounds.  Abbie Hudson also scored eight points.  Ellie Dougherty added seven points, five rebounds, two assists, and six steals.

Southwestern led by 15 points late in the third quarter but Franklin County outscored the Warriors 20-7 in the final quarter to earn a 64-63 come-from-behind victory over Southwestern.  Franklin County ran the clock down and Patience Laster hit what proved to be the winning basket with 15 seconds remaining on the clock.  Southwestern had one last opportunity but could not get the final shot to fall.

Franklin County shot 54.3% from the field including seven of 15 from the three point line.  The Lady Flyers connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and committed 10 turnovers.  Southwestern shot 44.7% from the field including seven of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Warriors connected on 14 of 32 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and committed eight turnovers.

Brooklynn Miles led Franklin County with 28 points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, and eight assists.  Patience Laster added 13 points and three rebounds.  Shannon Brunette recorded 12 points on four three point baskets.

Conner vs. Ryle (Girls)

This game featured Conner who has been voted No. 1 in the coaches poll and entering the game at 24-1 but their only loss this season was a 60-49 defeat at the hand of Ryle.  Therefore tonight’s game was for state bragging rights as well as bragging right in the very competitive 9^th Region.  Ryle trailed 33-20 early in the third quarter but rallied to pull within one point; 55-54 with less than a minute left on the clock.  Conner hit their free throws down the stretch to earn a 62-57 victory.

Conner shot 45.4 % from the field, connected on four three point baskets, and 18 free throws.  Ryle shot 33.3% from the field, connected on four three point baskets, and 11 free throws.

5-6 Sr. Savannah Jordan led Conner with 18 points including two three point baskets.  5-6 Sr. Joy Strange and 5-3 Sr. Courtney Hurst added 13 points each.  5-10 Jr. Maddie Drummonds chipped in with nine points.

5-11 Sr. Lauren Schwartz led Ryle with 20 points.  5-11 Jr. Maddie Scherr added 17 points.  5-9 So. Brie Crittendon chipped in with seven points.
