Franklin County coach Joey Thacker started the following lineup: 5-8 Sr. Samareah Levarity, 5-6 Jr. Jasmine Simpson, 5-10 Fr. Patience Laster, 5-4 Sr. Shannon Brunette, and 5-6 So. Brooklynn Miles.  Southwestern coach Stephen D. Butcher II countered with 5-9 Sr. Kallie Sheron, 5-8 Jr. Kennedy Harris, 5-11 Jr. Regi Cundiff, 5-4 Jr. Jenna Wood, and 5-6 So. Alexa Smiddy.

 

Southwestern led by 15 points late in the third quarter but Franklin County outscored the Warriors 20-7 in the final quarter to earn a 64-63 come-from-behind victory over Southwestern.  Franklin County ran the clock down and Patience Laster hit what proved to be the winning basket with 15 seconds remaining on the clock.  Southwestern had one last opportunity but could not get the final shot to fall.

 

Franklin County shot 54.3% from the field including seven of 15 from the three point line.  The Lady Flyers connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and committed 10 turnovers.  Southwestern shot 44.7% from the field including seven of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Warriors connected on 14 of 32 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and committed eight turnovers.

 

Brooklynn Miles led Franklin County with 28 points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, and eight assists.  Patience Laster added 13 points and three rebounds.  Shannon Brunette recorded 12 points on four three point baskets. 

 

Regi Cundiff led Southwestern with 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Alexa Smiddy added 13 points including three three point baskets and three rebounds.  Kallie Sheron recorded 10 points and five rebounds.

Tennessee State University coach Brian Collins started the following lineup: 6-7 Jr. Emmanuel Egbuta, 6-4 Jr. Kamar McKnight, 6-8 Jr. Stokley Chaffee Jr., 5-10 Jr. Michael Littlejohn, and 6-3 Jr. Tripp Davis.  Eastern Kentucky University coach A.W. Hamilton countered with 6-4 Fr. Houston King, 6-2 Fr. Jomaru Brown, 6-9 Sr. Nick Mayo, 5-10 Jr. Dujuanta Weaver, and 6-2 Jr. Kelvin Robinson.

 

Eastern Kentucky University utilized a careen night by Jomaru Brown (30 points) to defeat Tennessee State University by a score of 75-65.  Tennessee State led by nine in the first half and there were eight lead changes and five ties in the game.  Eastern Kentucky shot 38.2% from the field including three of 14 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 30 of 34 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 17 Tennessee State turnovers.  Tennessee State shot 36.4% from the field including nine of 27 from beyond the arc.  The Tigers connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 14 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Tennessee State committed 28 fouls and lost two starters Egbuta and Chaffee Jr. via the foul route.

 

Jomaru Brown led Eastern Kentucky with 30 points including nine of 12 free throws, five rebounds, and four assists.  6-8 Fr. Tre King added 12 points including eight of eight free throws, four rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Kelvin Robinson recorded 10 points including six of six free throws and nine rebounds.  Nick Mayo chipped in with nine points, 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots.

 

Michael Littlejohn led Tennessee State with 16 points including three three point baskets and four assists.  Kamar McKnight added 12 points.  6-4 Jr. Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey recorded nine points on three three point baskets and five rebounds.  Stokley Chaffee Jr. added eight points and eight rebounds.  Tripp Davis chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.

Eastern Kentucky University was limited to 16 points in the final three quarters in a 57-31 loss to Tennessee State University.  TSU shot 42.3% from the field including three of eight from the three point line.  The Tigers connected on 10 of 15 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 23 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Eastern Kentucky shot 24.5% from the field including four of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on one of two free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 14 Tennessee State turnovers.

 

Tia Wooten led Tennessee State University with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and three steals.  Jaden Wrightsell added 11 points, six rebounds, and two assists.  5-10 So. Nicholas County defeated Madison Central by a score of 49-41.  The score was tied three times and there were five lead changes in this game.  Nicholas County shot 38% from the field including four of 14 from the three point line.  The Lady Jackets connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 21 Madison Central turnovers.  Madison Central shot 31.4% from the field including two of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Indians connected on 17 of 29 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored nine points off 21 Nicholas County turnovers.

This game featured Conner who has been voted No. 1 in the coaches poll and entering the game at 24-1 but their only loss this season was a 60-49 defeat at the hand of Ryle.  Therefore tonight’s game was for state bragging rights as well as bragging right in the very competitive 9th Region.  Ryle trailed 33-20 early in the third quarter but rallied to pull within one point; 55-54 with less than a minute left on the clock.  Conner hit their free throws down the stretch to earn a 62-57 victory.

 

Conner shot 45.4 % from the field, connected on four three point baskets, and 18 free throws.  Ryle shot 33.3% from the field, connected on four three point baskets, and 11 free throws.

 

5-6 Sr. Savannah Jordan led Conner with 18 points including two three point baskets.  5-6 Sr. Joy Strange and 5-3 Sr. Courtney Hurst added 13 points each.  5-10 Jr. Maddie Drummonds chipped in with nine points.

 

5-11 Sr. Lauren Schwartz led Ryle with 20 points.  5-11 Jr. Maddie Scherr added 17 points.  5-9 So. Brie Crittendon chipped in with seven points.

Danville defeated Lincoln County 88-85 in overtime to knot the 45th District race at 5-1 and force the top spot to be decided by a coin flip.  Several things were accomplished tonight as the Lady Admirals avenged an earlier loss of 79-64 to Lincoln County.  Danville’s Ivy Turner torched the nets for 44 points tonight which makes her the all time leading scoring leader on the female side at Danville High with 2313 points and counting.  This loss also was Lincoln County’s third in a row. 

 

Danville shot 37.6% from the field including 12 of 31 from the three point line.  The Lady Admirals connected on 18 of 24 free throws and pulled down 42 rebounds.  Lincoln County shot 42.9% from the field including eight of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Patriots connected on 11 of 15 free throws and pulled down 39 rebounds.

 

5-8 Sr. Ivy Turner led Danville with 44 points.  5-8 So. Jenna Akers came up with a “monster” game with 26 points including eight three point baskets.  5-8 So. Lara Akers also reached double figures with 10 points.

 

5-11 Sr. Emma King led Lincoln County with 25 points.  6-0 Sr. Kaitlyn Wilks added 18 points.  5-6 Sr. Maddie Boyle, 5-10 Sr. Zaria Napier, and 5-10 Jr. Trinity Shearer also reached double figures with 14, 13, and 11 points respectively.

This game was a classic and with the talented teams and players in the 12th Region there have been several showcase games with several probably in the future as tournament play looms. Lexington Catholic trailed 33-22 in the third quarter but Jay Ballard hit a layup at the buzzer to give Lexington Catholic a 56-54 victory over the Lady Blue Devils.  The score was tied four times and there were three lead changes in the game.  Lexington Catholic shot 42.6% from the field including five of 17 from the three point line.  The Lady Knights connected on 11 of 12 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored nine points off nine Henry Clay turnovers.  Henry Clay shot 43.8% from the field including three of seven from beyond the arc.  The Lady Blue Devils connected on nine of 16 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 13 points off nine Lexington Catholic turnovers.

 

5-7 So. Ariel West led Lexington Catholic with 13 points including six of six free throws and three assists.  Maylo Given added 12 points including two three point baskets, seven rebounds, and two steals.  Chloe Treece chipped in with nine points.  Farah Weldon recorded eight points and five rebounds.  5-5 Fr. Hannah Carlisle added seven points.

 

Amiya Jenkins led Henry Clay with 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals.  Kiya Thompson added 13 points including two three point baskets.  Kennedy Williams recorded eight points, five rebounds, and two steals.

Ben Johnson led Lexington Catholic with 23 points including two three point baskets and six rebounds.  Brice Scott added 10 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.  Patrick Geoghegan recorded eight points including two three point baskets and seven rebounds.
