Madison Central coach Robert Cooksey started the following lineup: 5-10 Jr. Jekauri McKeithen, 5-5 Jr. Telaya Todd, 5-9 Sr. Logan Hudson, 5-5 Sr. Kelsey Powell, and 5-5 Sr. Madison Barnard.  Whitley County coach David Halcomb countered with 5-7 So. Mikkah Siler, 5-6 So. Reis Anderson, 5-10 Jr. Lindi Lawson, 5-1 Sr. Kaelie Frazier, and 5-4 So. Jaycie Monhollen.

Madison Central rallied from a 10 point deficit in the third quarter to earn a 55-52 road win over Whitley County.  The score was tied twice and there were six lead changes in the game.  Madison Central stepped up their defense in the final quarter as well as shooting a sizzling 82.4% (14 of 17) from the line.  However the Lady Indians were the recipient of a call against Whitley County that helped ensure the victory.  Madison Central led 52-50 with less than a minute remaining in the game when Whitley County went to the line to shoot a 1-and-1 with a chance to tie the game.  They hit the free throw but a lane violation was called giving the ball to Madison Central.  The Lady Colonels were unable to catch up and Madison Central captured a hard fought victory. 

Madison Central shot 46.5% from the field including one of eight from the three point line.  The Lady Indians connected on 14 of 17 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 19 Whitley County turnovers.  Whitley County shot 33.3% from the field including nine of 23 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Colonels connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 23 Madison Central turnovers.

Jekauri McKeithen led Madison Central with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and three steals.  Taleya Todd added 11 points, three assists, and three steals.  Kelsey Powell recorded nine points and five rebounds.  Madison Barnard added nine points, four assists, and three steals.

Kaelie Frazier led Whitley County with 15 points on five long range bombs.  Reis Anderson added 12 points including two three point baskets and four assists.  Mikkah Siler was a force in the paint with nine points, 10 rebounds, and three steals.  Lindi Lawson pulled down six rebounds.

Mercy Academy ranked number one in the state by many entering the season got off to a good start by defeating Eastern by a score of 74-69.  Mercy Academy shot 45.7% from the field including seven of 18 from the three point line.  The Jaguars connected on 15 of 23 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and committed 18 turnovers.  Eastern shot 41.8% from the field including six of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on seven of 16 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and committed 11 turnovers. 

5-5 Jr. Hope Sivori led Mercy Academy with 23 points including four three point baskets and four rebounds.  5-9 Sr. Regan Berger added 20 points including nine of 15 free throws and eight rebounds.  6-0 Jr. Paige Taylor recorded 14 points and 14 rebounds.  6-1 Jr. TaZiah Jenks chipped in with nine points and four rebounds.

5-8 Sr. Kiara Pearl led Eastern with 23 points including two three point baskets and seven rebounds.  5-11 Sr. Mikayla Kinnard also recorded 23 points and seven rebounds.  5-8 Sr. Tedi Nunn recorded 11 points including three three point baskets.

Beechwood led 27-13 at halftime and pulled away in the second half for a 48-13 victory over Campbellsville.  Beechwood rolled up 460 yards of total offense, lost a fumble, and had two passes intercepted.  Campbellsville recorded 249 yards of total offense, lost one fumble, and had three passes intercepted.

Logan Castleman was unstoppable tonight and led Beechwood’s ground game with 264 yards and five touchdowns on 32 carries.  Cameron Hergott carried the ball 10 times for 101 yards and two touchdowns.  Cameron Hergott completed two of seven passes for 24 yards with two interceptions.  Tyler Donoho caught one pass for 15 yards.  Duncan Baugh recovered a fumble and Logan Castleman, Tyler Donoho, and John Odom each intercepted a pass.

Charlie Pettigrew led Campbellsville’s ground game with 47 yards on 12 carries.  Arren Hash completed 16 of 31 passes for 124 yards and one touchdown with three interceptions.  Charlie Pettigrew completed his only pass for 57 yards and a touchdown.  Malachi Corley caught seven passes for 97 yards and a touchdown.  Reggie Thomas added four receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown.  Tristan Johnson led the defense with four solo and 12 assisted tackles.  Tyler Gribbins added two solo and 10 assisted tackles and recovered a fumble.  Blasé Wheatley recorded one solo and 10 assisted tackles and intercepted two passes.  Devon Reardon chipped in with one solo and nine assisted tackles.

Week in Review November 23^rd KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl Round 4 Playoffs (Semifinals)

Class 1A Playoffs

Beechwood 48 Campbellsville 13 – Logan Castleman carried the ball 32 times for 264 yards and five touchdowns.

Pikeville 38 Raceland 19 – Christian Billiter caught a 32 yard touchdown pass and returned an interception for 49 yards and a touchdown to lead Pikeville.

Class 2A Playoffs

Christian Academy of Louisville 35 Somerset 12 – Brandt Babin carried the ball 13 times for 139 yards including a 66 yard touchdown run and caught a 45 yard touchdown pass.

Mayfield 38 Walton-Verona 7 – Mayfield improves their record to 14-0 taking control of the game with a 21-0 advantage in the third quarter.

Class 3A Playoffs

Corbin 21 Boyle County 0 – Chase Estep ran for 81 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries and the defense effectively shut Boyle County down tonight.

Central 48 LaRue County 8 – Aiden Moore scored on a 10 yard interception return and Quintez Payton scored on a 37 yard fumble return as they continue to dominate on defense.

Class 4A Playoffs

Franklin-Simpson 33 Taylor County 0 – Tre Bass ran for 152 yards and a touchdown to lead Franklin-Simpson.

Johnson Central 59 Knox Central 20 – Joe Jackson carried the ball 11 times for 182 yards and two touchdowns and Ryley Preece added 134 yards and three touchdowns on seven carries.

Class 5A Playoffs

Covington Catholic 36 Pulaski County 14 – Caleb Jacob completed seven of eight passes for 161 yards and three touchdowns scored on a one yard run to lead CovCath.

South Warren 31 South Oldham 10 – Gavin Spurrier threw for three touchdowns tonight.

Class 6A Playoffs

Male 27 Trinity 20 – Garrett Dennis carried the ball 34 times for 137 yards and a touchdown and completed 16 of 26 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns.

Scott County 40 Madison Central 6 - Glenn Covington caught two passes for 80 yards and a touchdown and scored on a 75 yard interception return.

Raceland vs. Pikeville
Class 1A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl Round 4 Playoffs (Semifinal)

Pikeville led 24-0 at halftime lead but had to weather a comeback by Raceland before pulling away for a 38-19 victory.  Raceland pulled to within 5; 24-19 with 11:35 left in the game.  Pikeville then pulled out the old proverbial “rabbit out of the hat” by unexpectedly giving the ball to Junior Jon Collum a defensive stalwart who had not run the ball at the varsity level since his freshman year.  Collum sparked the Panthers with 85 yards and a touchdown on three carries to spark the Panthers to two touchdowns in the last five minutes for a 38-19 victory.  Pikeville recorded 21 first downs and 403 total yards.  The Panthers were penalized eight times for 50 yards and lost a fumble.  Raceland recorded 13 first downs and 174 yards of total offense.  The Rams were penalized once for five yards and had a pass intercepted.

Connor Roberts led Pikeville’s ground game with 152 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries.  Jon Collum carried the ball three times for 85 yards and a touchdown.  Cody Raines recorded 50 yards on five carries.  Connor Roberts completed nine of 13 passes for 56 yards and a touchdown.  Jackson Hensley completed his only pass for 32 yards and a touchdown.  Christian Billiter caught four passes for 40 yards and a touchdown.  Jackson Hensley added four receptions for 28 yards and a touchdown.  Christian Billiter also scored on a 49 yard interception return.

Judd Adkins led Raceland’s ground game with 73 yards on nine carries.  Hunter Lacks carried the ball 14 times for 45 yards and a touchdown.  Jackson Heighton completed 10 of 19 passes for 62 yards with one interception.  Mark Cox caught five passes for 46 yards.  Gunnur Lewis scored on an 88 yard kickoff return.

Knox Central vs. Johnson Central
Class 4A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl Round 4 Playoffs (Semifinal)

Johnson Central lost four first half fumbles but utilized their high octane ground game to roll up 438 yards and eight touchdowns on 36 carries to earn a 59-20 victory over Knox County.  Johnson County raced out to a 21-0 first quarter lead but Knox Central cut the deficit to seven; 21-14 midway through the second quarter but Johnson Central led 29-14 at halftime.  Knox Central then made a costly mistake when their punter bobbled a snap and Johnson Central took over on the Knox Central 10 yard line.  Devin Johnson then scored on a 5 yard line and the Golden Eagles were never threatened.  Johnson Central recorded 17 first downs and 513 yards of total offense.  The Golden Eagles were penalized seven times for 65 yards and lost four fumbles.  Knox Central recorded nine first downs and 207 yards of total offense.  They were penalized twice for 20 yards and lost a fumble.

Joe Jackson led Johnson Central’s ground game with 182 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.  Ryley Preece added 134 yards and three touchdowns.  Devin Johnson recorded 103 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.  Ryley Preece completed three of three passes for 75 yards.  Keygan Pelphrey, Zach Russell, and Ryan Sartin-Slone each caught a pass for 37, 31, and seven yards respectively.

Ethan Mills led Knox Central’s ground game with 90 yards on 19 carries.  Seth Huff carried the ball twice for 21 yards and a touchdown.  Brady Worley completed 13 of 22 passes for 120 yards and one touchdown.  Blevin Campbell caught six passes for 50 yards and a touchdown.  Dane Imel added four receptions for 40 yards.

Boyle County vs. Corbin
Class 3A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl Round 4 Playoffs (Semifinal)

Corbin knocked Boyle County from the ranks of the unbeaten with a convincing 21-0 victory before an overflowing crowd in Corbin tonight.  Boyle County had overcome illness, injuries, and a tough road trip victory over Belfry last week but had remained unscathed after 13 games.  Tonight was a different story as a very well prepared Corbin came out and controlled the line of scrimmage and kept the Rebels from utilizing their big play offense.  Boyle County had their chances but they lost four turnovers with three in the red zone area of play.  The game was scoreless after the first period but Corbin scored first on a 2 yard run by Grant Gibson and a conversion kick by Will Childers to make the score 7-0 with 8:57 remaining in the half.  Boyle County fought back but a Reed Lanter pass was intercepted by Cole Shelton at the three yard line.  Boyle County blocked a 37 yard field goal attempt in the final seconds of the half to go to the locker room trailing 7-0.  The Redhounds scored on a seven yard run by Chase Estep and another conversion kick by Will Childers to make the score 14-0 midway through the third quarter.  The Rebels threatened again but a lost fumble on the Corbin 11 yard line ended the drive. 

The Rebels trailed 14-0 in the final quarter and gave the ball back to Corbin on a bad snap at the Boyle County 2 yard line and Chase Estep scored on a 4 yard run and Childers added the kick to give Corbin a 21-0 lead and put the proverbial nail-in-the-coffin.  Corbin shut the door for good when they recovered another Boyle County on the Corbin 6 yard line with a little over 4 minutes left in the game.  Boyle County turned the ball over too much and also Reese Smith suffered an injury in the game and was not a factor tonight.  Corbin shut down Boyle County’s ground game, did not allow the Rebels their normal big plays, and flawlessly ran their offense to record a big win.

Corbin recorded 17 first downs and 295 yards.  The Redhounds were penalized nine times for 70 yards and did not commit any turnovers.  Boyle County recorded 11 first downs and 209 yards of total offense.  The Rebels were penalized six times for 40 yards, lost three fumbles, and had a pass intercepted.

Chase Estep led Corbin’s ground game with 81 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.  Nick Yeager added 60 yards on eight carries and Treyveon Longmire recorded 29 yards on four carries.  Chase Estep completed seven of 17 passes for 75 yards.  Jacob Steely caught five passes for 37 yards.  Devyn Sams added one reception for 28 yards.

Tanner Crawford led Boyle County’s ground game with 48 yards on 12 carries.  Reed Lanter completed 19 of 26 passes for 151 yards with one interception.  Reiley Colwick caught six passes for 84 yards.  Luke Sheperson added five receptions for 34 yards.  Reese Smith caught two passes for one yard.

Madison Central vs. Scott County
Class 6A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl Round 4 Playoffs (Semifinal)

Scott County raced out to a 27-0 first quarter lead on their way to a 40-6 victory over Madison Central.  Scott County opened the scoring with an 83 yard run by Bronson Brown and the conversion lick to lead 7-0.  Scott County’s Payton Brown blocked a punt and later scored on a one yard run to make the score 14-0.  Glenn Covington then dialed long distance twice; once on a 58 yard touchdown pass from Cade McKee then on a 75 yard interception return to spark Scott County to their 27-0 cushion.  Madison Central was unable to match Scott County’s speed, intensity, and athleticism on this particular night.  The Indians finished the season at 10-4 and captured their first regional football title.  Scott County recorded 11 first downs and 375 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized four times for 23 yards.  Madison Central recorded eight first downs and 145 yards of total offense.  The Indians were penalized six times for 46 yards and had a pass intercepted.

Bronson Brown led Scott County’s ground game with 114 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.  Jeremy Hamilton carried the ball twice for 28 yards.  Payton Brown added 26 yards and a touchdown on four carries.  Austin Barnett carried the ball eight times for 17 yards and a touchdown.  Cade McKee completed four of five passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns.  Glenn Covington caught two passes for 80 yards and a touchdown.  Payton Brown added one reception for a 51 yard touchdown.  Cade Mullins caught a 49 yard pass.  Berk Watts led the defense with three solo and five assisted tackles.  Rylan Reed added one solo and seven assisted tackles.  Outstanding OL/DL Bryan Hudson recorded three solo and three assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling seven yards.  Glenn Covington intercepted a pass he returned 75 yards for a touchdown.

Freddie Chenault led Madison Central’s ground attack with 79 yards on 15 carries.  Derrick Miller carried the ball six times for 29 yards and a touchdown.  Derrick Miller completed three of 13 passes for 18 yards with one interception.  Drew Muntz caught one pass for 15 yards.  Ethan Hahn returned six kickoffs for 113 yards with a long return of 35 yards.  Blake Muntz punted three times for a 40.0 yard average with a long punt of 53 yards with two punts inside the 20 yard line.  Jackson Juett led the defense with two solo and five assisted tackles.  John Collins added two solo and four assisted tackles.  David Rhodes recorded two solo and one assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling eight yards.

Covington Catholic raced out to a 36-0 halftime lead on their way to a 36-14 victory over Pulaski County.  Covington Catholic improves to 14-0 and advances to the 5A championship game.  Pulaski County finishes their season at 11-3. Wiley Cain finishes his career at Pulaski County with 35 touchdown passes.  Jake Sloan finished the year with 117 catches for 1670 yards and 13 touchdowns.  Covington Catholic recorded eight first downs and 259 yards of total offense.  The Colonels were penalized four times for 27 yards and lost a fumble.  Pulaski County recorded 13 first downs and 209 yards of total offense.  The Maroons were penalized three times for 33 yards, lost two fumbles, and had a pass intercepted.

Casey McGinness led Covington Catholic’s ground game with 70 yards and a touchdown on six carries.  Caleb Jacob completed seven of eight passes for 161 yards and three touchdowns.  Luke Summe caught two passes for 66 yards and a touchdown.  Casey McGinness added two receptions for 24 yards and a touchdown.  Jack Coldiron caught a 55 yard touchdown pass.  Casey McGinness returned one punt for 59 yards.  D. Felix led the defense with four solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a nine yard loss.  L. Stegman, M. Mayer, and J. Blank each recorded three solo tackles.  B. Dickhaus intercepted a pass.

T. Cox led Pulaski County’s ground game with 23 yards on four carries.  Wiley Cain completed 21 of 33 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  Jake Sloan caught eight passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.  E. Casada added three receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown.  I. Ware returned three kickoffs for 56 yards with a long return of 23 yards.  E. Mercer returned two kickoffs for 38 yards with a long return of 19 yards.  K. Hargis led the defense with seven solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a one yard loss.  E. Mercer added five solo and one assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling five yards.

Kennesaw State coach Al Skinner started the following lineup: 6-7 Jr. Isaac Mbuyamba, 6-8 Jr. Bryson Lockley, 6-8 Sr. Kosta Jankovic, 6-0 Jr. Tyler Hooker, and 6-5 Sr. Kyle Clarke.  Eastern Kentucky University coach A.W. Hamilton countered with 6-8 Jr. Lachlan Anderson, 6-5 So. Peyton Broughton, 6-9 Sr. Nick Mayo, 5-10 Jr. Dujuanta Weaver, and 6-2 Jr. Kelvin Robinson.

Eastern Kentucky University scored 61 points in the second half to pull away for a 100-81 victory over Kennesaw state.  Eastern Kentucky shot 50% from the field including 13 of 30 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 13 of 20 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 19 Kennesaw State turnovers.  Eastern Kentucky held a 40-16 advantage in bench scoring.  Kennesaw state shot 44.4% from the field including two of eight from beyond the arc.  They connected on 31 of 41 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored nine points off seven Eastern Kentucky turnovers.

Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky with 28 points including four three point baskets, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots.  6-2 Fr. Jomaru Brown added 21 points including two three point baskets and four rebounds.  Peyton Broughton recorded 13 points including three three point baskets.

Tyler Hooker led Kennesaw State with 29 points including 13 of 14 free throws and seven rebounds.  Kyle Clarke added 20 points including 10 of 14 free throws and seven rebounds.  6-8 Fr. Ugo Obineke recorded 16 points.
