Madison Central coach Robert Cooksey started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Kenadee Everly, 5-10 Jr. Lindsey Johns, 6-0 Jr. Mallie Cornett, 5-4 So. Bailee Vanover, and 5-4 Sr. Emily Willoughby.  Lexington Catholic coach Scott True countered with 5-9 Jr. Laken Pinkerman, 5-7 Sr. Caroline Osbourn, 5-9 Sr. Sarah Bonn, 5-3 So. Ashley Frebis, and 5-7 Fr. Jay Ballard.

 

Lexington Catholic defeated Madison Central by a score of 42-37.  Lexington Catholic shot 42.4% from the field including six of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Knights connected on eight of 13 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored five points off 13 Madison Central turnovers.  Madison Central shot 30% from the field including two of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Indians connected on 11 of 17 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 19 Lexington Catholic turnovers.

 

Caroline Osbourn led Lexington Catholic with 15 points including six of six free throws and six rebounds.  Jay Ballard added 10 points including two three point baskets.  Sarah Bonn recorded seven points and eight rebounds.

 

Lindsey Johns led Madison Central with 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists.  6-0 Jr. Savannah Fallis added 10 points.  Mallie Cornett recorded eight points, eight rebounds, and four blocked shots.

Mason County defeated Simon Kenton 66-64 in a double overtime classic.  Simon Kenton’s Allyson Niece scored in the lane to send the game to overtime.  Niece worked her magic again in overtime to score again to send the game to the second overtime.  The third time was not charmed as Niece missed a shot in the lane in the closing seconds. Briana McNutt and Jordan Frodge hit key three point baskets in the second overtime to give Mason County the victory.

 

Mason County shot 41% from the field including seven of 18 from the three point line.  The Lady Royals connected on 11 of 17 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and committed 13 turnovers.  Simon Kenton shot 42% from the field including four of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Pioneers connected on 16 of 20 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and committed 17 turnovers.

 

5-8 Jr. Whitney O’Mara led Mason County with 15 points and six rebounds.  5-9 Jr. Maddie Boone added 13 points.  5-8 Jr. Briana McNutt recorded 12 points and eight rebounds.  5-10 So. Kara Moran and 5-6 Jr. Jordan Frodge chipped in with nine and eight points respectively.

Scott County outscored Knox Central 28-9 in the second quarter on their way to an 80-61 victory over the Panthers.  Scott County utilized their defensive pressure to score 30 points off 25 Knox Central turnovers.  Scott County shot 42% from the field including 10 of 28 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on two of four free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored 30 points off 25 Knox Central turnovers.  Scott County attempted 35 more shots (81-46) from the field than Knox Central.  Knox Central shot 50% from the field including two of four from beyond the arc.  The Panthers connected on 13 of 25 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 20 Scott County turnovers.

 

Clem Damron led Scott County with 15 points, 15 rebounds, and five steals.  Glenn Covington also scored 15 points including three three point baskets.  Cooper Robb added 14 points, five rebounds, eight assists, and four steals.  5-8 Fr. Ryle controlled the board tonight (49-30) in a 63-49 victory over Scott County.  Ryle shot 41.1% from the field including five of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Raiders connected on 12 of 18 free throws, pulled down 49 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 13 Scott County turnovers.  Scott County shot 32.1% from the field including seven of 24 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cardinals connected on six of 12 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 14 Ryle turnovers.

 

Mallory Schwartz led Ryle with 21 points including four three point baskets, nine rebounds, and five assists.  Carly Lange added 16 points and six rebounds.  Aimee Jump recorded 10 points, eight rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Madison Jones chipped in with nine points and five rebounds.  Maddie Scherr pulled down 10 rebounds.

The score was tied 29-29 at halftime but Scott County was six of nine from the three point line after the intermission and pulled away for a 79-55 victory.  There were 10 lead changes and 12 ties in this game.  Scott County shot 46.3% from the field including seven of 15 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 10 of 15 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 25 Saunders turnovers.  Saunders shot 38.9% from the field including two of seven from beyond the arc.  The Blue Devils connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 19 Scott County turnovers.

Lake Brantley defeated Wayne County 56-52 in a game that had more plot changes than a good murder mystery.  Lake Brantley raced out to a 20-6 first quarter lead and still led 33-22 at halftime.  Wayne County rallied to outscore the Patriots 23-9 in the third quarter to lead 45-42 at the end of three quarters.  Lake Brantley rallied in the final period to earn a 56-52 victory.  The score was tied twice and there were four lead changes in the game.

 

Lake Brantley shot 52.2% from the field including five of 13 from the three point line.  The Patriots connected on three of three free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 11 Wayne County turnovers.  Wayne County shot 32.1% from the field including seven of 27 from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals connected on nine of 12 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 22 Lake Brantley turnovers.

6-7 Sr. Daniel Coldiron led Wayne County with 15 points and 10 rebounds.  Trey Blevins added 14 points including two three point baskets and 10 assists.  Corey Stearns chipped in with 12 points including two three point baskets.  Jakson Baker recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Lake Brantley (FL) outscored Scott County 20-8 in overtime to defeat a game Scott County team by a score of 80-68.  Scott County trailed 36-22 at halftime but clawed back to tie the game 42-42 after three quarters.  There were five lead changes and nine ties in this game.  Scott County was hampered all week by the absence of one of their top players 6-6 Fr. Michael Moreno and had the misfortune tonight to face 6-9 John Mooney a Notre Dame signee who was a force all week in this tournament.

 

Lake Brantley (FL) shot 50.9% from the field including 10 of 19 from the three point line.  The Patriots connected on 12 of 14 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 10 Scott County turnovers.  Scott County shot 34.2% from the field including four of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals connected on 12 of 23 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 22 Lake Brantley (FL) turnovers.

 

John Mooney led Lake Brantley (FL) with 24 points, 26 rebounds, five assists, and nine blocked shots.  John Mareno added 19 points, five rebounds, and six assists.  Rey Martinez recorded 18 points including four three point baskets, five rebounds, and five assists. 

 

Cooper Robb led Scott County with 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Cooper Watts added 18 points, eight rebounds, four blocked shots, and three steals.  Clem Damron recorded 14 points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots.

What a week!!!  The heavy snow and inclement weather made scheduling a nightmare but Scott County did a marvelous job of salvaging part of this event and still had some outstanding basketball.  Billy Hicks continues to add to his legendary status as a coach.  Hicks is playing an extremely young team as well as battling injuries and still has his team competing at a high lever.  Also, a special thanks to WL Stats for providing the comprehensive statistics for all the games this week.

Rickie Woltman led Incarnate Word with 18 points and five rebounds. Woltman was seven of seven from the field and four of five from the free throw line.  Abbey Hoff added 12 points and five rebounds.  6-0 Sr. Sam Cooke recorded eight points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Kate Lacefield chipped in with eight points, three rebounds, and three assists.  Kiki Britzmann added seven points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots.
