Lafayette Central Catholic (25-5) vs. Borden (23-5) Class 1A Championship

Lafayette Central Catholic coach Craig DeVault started the following lineup: 5-9 Sr. Carley Barrett, 5-8 Jr. Casey Schuessler, 5-10 Fr. Brooke Thompson, 5-4 Sr. Grace Bordenet, and 5-7 Sr. Maddy Bruce. Borden coach Matt Vick countered with 5-10 Jr. Emma Hart, 5-11 Jr. Ava Wheeler, 6-0 Jr. Riley Rarick, 5-5 Jr. AJ Mallad, and 5-7 Jr. McKenna Mullen.

Borden trailed 25-12 in the second quarter but finished the quarter on a 12-0 run to pull within one; 25-24 at halftime. Borden led off the third quarter with an 11-0 run to take a 35-25 lead in the third quarter on their way to a 49-40 victory over Lafayette Central Catholic. There were four lead changes in this game. Borden shot 39% from the field including eight of 18 from the three point line. The Braves connected on nine of 15 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 17 Lafayette Central Catholic turnovers. Lafayette Central Catholic shot 32.5% from the field including three of 18 from beyond the arc. The Knights connected on 11 of 15 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 15 Borden turnovers.

Riley Rarick led Borden with 16 points including three three point baskets, five of six free throws, six rebounds, and two assists. Ava Wheeler added 13 points, nine rebounds, six assists, four steals, and three blocked shots. AJ Mallad recorded nine points on three three point baskets, three rebounds, two assists, and five steals. 5-7 Fr. Saylor Schleicher chipped in with six pointsand two rebounds. Emma Hart recorded one point, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Grace Bordenet led Lafayette Central Catholic with 11 points including five of eight free throws, and five rebounds. Carley Barrett added nine points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and eight steals. Brooke Thompson recorded eight points including two three point baskets, and two rebounds. Maddy Bruce chipped in with six points and two steals. Casey Schuessler recorded six points including three of four free throws.

Reneaaelaer Central coach Wes Radtke started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Carly Drone, 5-10 So. Courtnry Mathew, 5-11 Sr. Taylor Van Meter, 5-9 Jr. Kamri Rowland, and 5-9 Jr. Brodie Radtke. South Knox coach Hollie Anson-Eaves countered with 5-9 Sr. Ella Bobe, 5-9 So. Ellie Burke, 6-0 Sr. Bren Hill, 5-7 So. Kendal Hill, and 5-8 So. Grace Detweiler.

South Knox defeated Rensselaer Central by the score of 55-33. South Knox shot 40.9% from the field including six of 17 from the three point line. The Spartans connected on 13 of 21 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 11 Rensselaer Central turnovers. Rensselaer Central shot 25% from the field including three of 19 from beyond the arc. The Bombers connected on four of six free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 19 South Knox turnovers.

Kendal Hill led South Knox with 18 points including two three point baskets, six of seven free throws, 10 rebounds, and four assists. Bren Hill added 14 points including two three point baskets, 12 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Grace Detweiler recorded 12 points including two three point baskets, and four rebounds. Ella Bobe chipped in with six points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Kamri Rowland led Rensselaer Central with 10 points and six rebounds. Courtney Mathew added eight points, five rebounds, and two steals. Carly Drone recorded seven points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Taylor Van Meter chipped in with six points, three rebounds, and two steals.

Norwell coach Eric Thornton started the following lineup: 5-10 Jr. Vanessa Rosswurm, 5-9 Jr. Macie Saalfrank, 5-11 So. Alivia Green, 5-7 Jr. Addison Norris, and 5-8 Jr. Jada Dale. Greensburg coach Jason Simpson countered with 5-10 So. Claire Larrison, 5-9 Jr. Aly Powers, 6-1 Sr. Leah West, 5-3 Sr. Emma McQueen, and 5-8 Sr. Mylie Wilkison.

The score was tied 24-24 at halftime but Norwell pulled away in the second half to earn a 53-44 victory. There were three lead changes and nine ties in this game. Norwell shot 32.2% from the field including three of 15 from the three point line. The Knights connected on 12 of 20 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 19 Greensburg turnovers. Greensburg shot 31.1% from the field including two of 14 from beyond the arc. The Pirates connected on four of 10 free throws, pulled down 51 rebounds, and scored four points off seven Norwell turnovers.

Vanessa Rosswurm led Norwell with 17 points including five of five free throws, 10 rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Addison Norris added 16 points including five of eight free throws, seven rebounds, four steals, and four blocked shots. Macie Saalfrank recorded 13 points including two three point baskets, two rebounds, and two blocked shots.

Leah West added Greensburg with 17 points, 17 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and four blocked shots. Claire Larrison added 13 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocked shots. Mylie Wilkison recorded nine points, 11 rebounds, and one assist.

Lawrence North coach Stephen Thomas countered with 5-10 Jr. Naja Winston, 5-9 Jr. Kalea Bentley, 6-1 Sr. Jamaya Thomas, 5-7 Sr. Kya Hurt, and 5-8 Jr. Ke’Adriah Butler.

Lawrence North defeated Warsaw Community by the score of 65-59. Lawrence North shot 41.4% from the field including eight of 19 from the three point line. The Wildcats connected on nine of 17 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 17 Warsaw Community turnovers. Warsaw Community shot 37.5% from the field including nine of 22 from beyond the arc. The Tigers connected on 14 of 18 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 13 Warsaw Community turnovers.

Ke’Adriah Butler led Lawrence North with 20 points including two three point baskets, four of four free throws, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Jamaya Thomas added 14 points and two rebounds. Kalea Bentley recorded 12 points including four of five free throws and two assists. Naja Winston chipped in with nine points, 14 rebounds, and five steals. Kya Hurt added five points and seven assists.

Brooke Winchester led Warsaw Community with 20 points including two three point baskets, six of seven free throws, 13 rebounds, two steals, and two blocked shots. Joslyn Bricker added 13 points including seven of nine free throws, three rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Brooke Zartman recorded 12 points on four three point baskets, two rebounds, and three assists. Alexis Neely chipped in with six points on two three point baskets, six rebounds, and three assists. 5-9 Sr. Abbey Peterson recorded five points and two rebounds.

Lexington Catholic coach Michael Menifee started the following lineup: 5-9 Jr. Payton Avilez, 5-8 Sr. Alivia Morris, 5-10 Jr. Adalee Long, 5-5 7th Grade Harper Reynolds, and 5-7 Jr. Mary Walker West. Paul Laurence Dunbar’s coach Erik Daniels countered with 5-9 8th Grade Alese Goree, 5-4 Fr.Sydney Yaden, 6-0 Jr. Ava Rankin, 5-4 So. Layla Flynn, and 5-4 7th Grade Kyah Curtsinger.

Paul Laurence Dunbar pulled away in the final quarter to defeat Lexington Catholic by the score of 53-39. Ther were seven lead changes and nine ties in this game. Paul Laurence Dunbar shot 35.5% from the field including six of 23 from the three point line. The Lady Bulldogs connected on three of eight free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 28 points off 34 Lexington Catholic turnovers. Lexington Catholic shot 39.4% from the field including zero of two from beyond the arc. The Lady Knights connected on 13 of 20 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 16 Paul Laurence Dunbar turnovers.

Layla Flynn led Paul Laurence Dunbar with 21 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and seven steals. Kyah Curtsinger added 11 points including three three point baskets, and five rebounds. Sydney Yaden recorded nine points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Paul Laurence Dunbar shot 36.7% from the field including three of 13 from beyond the arc. Max Meagher led Lexington Catholic with 23 points including five of nine free throws and six rebounds. Hank Woodall added 17 points including three of three free throws, five rebounds, two assists, three blocked shots, and two steals. Ryan Harward recorded 15 points, two rebounds, and five assists. Jacob Holland chipped in with six points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Latrell Jones-Miller led Tates Creek with 15 points including three of four free throws, and five rebounds. Stephen Franklin added 14 points including two three point baskets, two rebounds, and six assists. Lexington Christian Academy trailed 38-34 after three quarters but the Lady Eagles outscored Tates Creek 26-15 in the final quarter to earn a 60-53 victory. There were five lead changes and two ties in thios game. Lexington Christian Academy shot 44.4% from the field including seven of 20 from the three point line. The Lady Eagles connected on 13 of 23 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 13 Tates Creek turnovers. Tates Creek shot 37.8% from the field including six of 16 from beyond the arc. The Lady Commodores connected on 13 of 18 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored nine points off 17 Lexington Christian Academy turnovers.

Chapel Brown led Lexington Christian Academy with 17 points including three three point baskets, four of eight free throws, eight rebounds, and two assists. 5-7 Jr. Piper Graham added 17 points, six rebounds, three blocked shots, and five steals. Claire Roberts recorded 13 points including two three point baskets, three of six free throws, and three rebounds. Jentry Bertram chipped in with five points, nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Miracle Morbley led Tates Creek with 18 points including three three point baskets, three of four free throws, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and four steals. Kaleigh Potts added nine points including three of six free throws, four rebounds, and four assists. Alyiah Baird recorded nine points including two three point baskets, and three of four free throws. Lexington Christian Academy eked out a 53-52 victory over Lafayette. Lexington Christian Academy shot 40.7% from the field including five of 21 from the three point line. The Eagles connected on four of 11 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored four points off four Lafayette turnovers. Lafayette shot 34% from the field including four of 16 from beyond the arc. The Generals connected on 12 of 17 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored seven points off eight LCA turnovers.

Saxton Howard led Lexington Christian Academy with 24 points including two three point baskets, four of eight free throws, three rebounds, and five assists. Andrew Maggard added 15 points and six rebounds. Colt Cummins recorded two points, 13 rebounds, and two blocked shots.

Tyler Hunt led Lafayette with 17 points including eight of 10 free throws, and 11 rebounds. Drew Biddle added 11 points including two three point baskets, five rebounds, and five assists. KJ Jones recorded 11 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Eli Thomas chipped in with nine points including two of two free throws, three rebounds, and three assists. 6-1 So. Ben Marsh recorded four points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Lexington Christian Academy shot 28.6% from the field including six of 23 from beyond the arc. The Lady Eagles connected on three of four free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored six points off 14 Lafayette turnovers.

Belle Combs led Lafayette with 17 points, nine rebounds, and five blocked shots. Abbey Popham added 10 points including three of four free throws, two assists, and three steals. Addison Combs recorded nine points, two blocked shots, and four steals. Tess Nelson chipped in with six points and four rebounds. Anna Clay Denton recorded five points, three rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.

Claire Roberts led Lexington Christian Academy with 11 points including three three point baskets. Chapel Brown added 10 points including three of four free throws, five rebounds, and two assists. Sayre coach Eric Kinder started the following lineup: 5-6 Jr. Kathryn Kinder, 5-5 Sr. Anna Mulliken, 5-10 Jr. Lucie Pitman, 5-2 Sr. Katherine Monahan, and 5-5 8th Grade Adler Jones. Bryan Station coach Serena Sandusky countered with 5-8 Jr. Sofia Haggard, 5-8 Sr. Alondra Gonzalez Perez, 5-9 So. Nekoiya Garr, 5-6 Jr. Elayna Ward, and 5-7 Jr. Akiyah Wade.

Sayre defeated Bryan Station by the score of 54-48. Sayre shot 34.6% from the field including 10 of 30 from the three point line. The Lady Spartans connected on eight of 14 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 17 Bryan Station turnovers. Bryan Station shot 32% from the field including six of 23 from beyond the arc. The Lady Defenders connected on 10 of 17 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 17 Sayre turnovers.

Katherine Monohan led Sayre with 23 points including three three point baskets, four of six free throws, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Jaxson Howard led Sayre with 21 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocked shots. Howard was nine of nine from the field and three of three from the free throw line. Brock Coffman added 19 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Chase Parker recorded 18 points including five of seven free throws, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. John Palumbo chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets.

Frederick Douglass’ quickness and defensive intensity was to much for Sayre tonight as they forced 25 turnovers they converted ot 28 points in a 64-26 victory over the Lady Spartans. They also held an 18-0 advantage on second effort points. Frederick Douglass shot 41.7% from the field including five of 17 from the three point line. The Lady Broncos connected on nine of 16 free throws, and pulled down 47 rebounds, Sayre shot 27% from the field including two of 15 from beyond the arc. The Lady Spartans connected on four of six free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 15 Frederick Douglass turnovers.

Jaelee Knowles led Frederick Douglass with 17 points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots. Knowles was eight of nine from the field and one of two from the charity stripe. Tamia Waide added 14 points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, and threee assists. Reagan Gregonis recorded 13 points including three three point baskets, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. 5-6 So. Nia Carr chipped in with seven points including five of six free throws and two assists. 5-10 Jr. Miami King added six points, seven rebounds, and two steals. The Spartans connected on 16 of 26 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 11 Frederick Douglass turnovers.

Logan Busson led Frederick Douglass with 15 points and six rebounds. Busson was five of six from the field and five of five from the free throw line. DeMarcus Surratt added 12 points, four rebounds, six assists, and three steals. 5-10 So. Dakari Talbert recorded 11 points including three three point baskets. The Berea inside-outside combination of Kadence Stepp and Avery Plessingter was to much for Model to overcome as they combined for 33 points as the Lady Pirates defeated Model by the score of 41-31. There were four ties and two lead changes in this game. Berea shot 42.5% from the field including two of four from the three point line. The Lady Pirates connected on five of 19 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 17 Model turnovers. Model shot 28.1% from the field including four of six from beyond the arc. The Lady Patriots connected on nine of 11 free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored nine points off 14 Berea turnovers.

Berea trailed 26-23 at halftime but outscored the Patriots 19-7 in the third quarter on their way to a 60-42 victory. There were five ties and three lead changes in this game. Model was hampered tonight as Harrison Parkhurst was injured minutes into the game and could only play limited minutes the rest of the night. Berea shot 46.2% from the field including six of 14 from the three point line. The Pirates connected on six of 14 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 15 Model turnovers. Model shot 38.1% from the field including six of 20 from beyond the arc. The Patriots connected on four of seven free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 11 Berea turnovers.

Tommie Banderman led Berea with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Finley Blevins added 14 points including two three point baskets, two rebounds, and four assists. Madison Central’s press took its toll on a young Berea squad as the Lady Indians raced out to a 25-6 first quarter lead on their way to a 64-12 victory. Madison Central forced 24 turnovers and recorded 20 steals that they converted to 31 points. Madison Central shot 63.6% from the field including 13 of 18 from the three point line. The Lady Indians connected on nine of 15 free throws and pulled down 15 rebounds. Berea shot 23.5% from the field including zero of four from beyond the arc. The Lady Pirates connected on four of eight free throws, pulled down 15 rebounds, and forced five Madison Central turnovers.


Brittany Campbell led Madison Central with 23 points including six three point baskets, three rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Campbell was eight of nine from the field including six of seven from beyond the arc. Nataya Strader added 11 points, teo rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Cameryn Ridderikhoff recorded nine points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, four assists, and five steals. 5-5 Jr. Skylar Collinsworth added nine points on three of four from the three point line.

The Colonels connected on 16 of 24 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 17 Madison Central turnovers. Grant County coach Brett Jones countered with 6-0 Jr. Benjamin Bosse, 5-9 Sr. Brennen Gordon, 6-4 Sr. Wyatt Hucker, 5-2 So. Nathanel Hamm, and 5-8 So. Braylen Flamini.

Bryan Station defeated Grant County by the score of 91-71. There were seven lead changes and four ties in this game. Bryan Station shot 51.5% from the field including 13 of 27 from the three point line. The Defenders connected on 10 of 16 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 31 points off 12 Grant County turnovers. Grant County shot 43.3% from the field including 13 of 36 from beyond the arc. The Braves connected on six of eight free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 14 points off nine Bryan Station turnovers.

Amari Owens led Bryan Station with 33 points including four three point baskets, five of eight free throws, five rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. Rashaad Faulkner added 15 points on five three point baskets, three rebounds, and two assists. 6-7 Sr. Brunley Fon recorded 10 points and 12 rebounds. Taeshawn Adams recorded 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Benjamin Bosse led Grant County with 20 points including two three point basket, and three rebounds. Brennen Gordon added 19 points on five three point baskets, two assists, and two steals. Nathanel Hamm recorded 10 points including three three point baskets and three rebounds. Braylen Flamini chipped in with nine points and three assists. Wyatt Hucker recorded three points, 11 rebounds, and two assists.
