Sacred Heart Academy coach Donna Moir started the following lineup: 6-0 Sr. Za’Kiyah Johnson, 5-10 Jr. Brianna Wilkins, 6-0 Sr. Morgan Frey, 5-5 So. Amirah “Tootie” Jordan, and 5-8 Sr. Caroline Osting. Simon Kenton coach Jeff Stowers countered with 5-10 Jr. Anna Kelch, 5-7 Jr. Megan Gadzala, 5-9 Jr. Haylie Webb, 5-3 So. Brynli Pernell, and 5-4 Fr. Bella Ober.

Simon Kenton defeated Sacred Heart Academy 75-70 in overtime to end Sacred Heart’s 92 consecutive victories against in-state competition. There were 11 lead changes and five ties in this game and the score was tied 64-64 at the end of regulation. Simon Kenton shot 51% from the field including 12 of 25 from the three point line. The Lady Pioneers connected on 13 of 22 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored nine points off 13 Sacred Heart turnovers. Sacred Heart shot 52.7% from the field including five of 14 from beyond the arc. The Valkyries connected on seven of 13 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 19 Simon Kenton turnovers. (Za’Kiyah Johnson, Tootie Jordan, and Morgan Frey all flouled out for Sacred Heart).

Brynli Pernell led Simon Kenton with 22 points including four three point baskets, four of five free throws, three rebounds, and four assists. Bella Ober added 21 points including three three point baskets, four of six free throws, three rebounds, and five assists. Haylie Webb recorded 13 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Anna Kelch chipped in with 12 points on four three point baskets, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Megan Gadzala recorded seven points, five rebounds, and five assists. The five starters should be named “The Iron 5” as they each recorded 36 minutes of playing time and never left the floor tonight as they pulled off this hurculean task of knocking off the reigning giant of girls basketball in the Bluegrass.

Za’Kiyah Johnson led Sacred Heart with 25 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, and six steals. “Tootie” Jordan added 16 points including two three point baskets, two rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Morgan Frey recorded 15 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Brianna Wilkins chipped in with seven points and four rebounds. 5-7 Fr. Riley Gilvin added seven points.

George Rogers Clark coach Josh Cook countered with 6-5 So. Montez Gay, 6-6 So. Maddox Hager, 6-7 Jr. Amari Bartelson, 5-9 Jr. Malachi Ashford, and 6-1 Sr. Eli Craig.

The score was tied 37-37 after three quarters but Great Crossing outscored George Rogers Clark 18-6 in the final quarter to earn a 55-43 victory. There were six lead changes and nine ties in this game. Great Crossing shot 41.5% from the field including two of 16 from the three point line. The Warhawks connected on nine of 10 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored six points off seven George Rogers Clark turnovers. George Rogers Clark shot 34% from the field including six of 18 from beyond the arc. The Cardinals connected on three of four free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 12 Great Crossing turnovers.

Malachi Moreno led Great Crossing with 22 points including six of six free throws, 20 rebounds, four assists, and five blocked shots. LJ Holman added 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Vince Dawson III recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds. Gage Richardson chipped in with seven points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Malachi Ashford led George Rogers Clark with 13 points, four assists, and two steals. Montez Gay added nine points, five rebounds, and two steals. 5-10 Fr. Connor Morguson recorded eight points including two three point baskets and two steals. Maddox Hager chipped in with seven points.

George Rogers Clark raced out to a 16-4 first quarter lead but Sacred Heart rallied to pull away in the second half for an 80-68 victory over the Lady Cardinals. There were three lead changes and three ties in this game. Sacred Heart shot 47.5% from the field including seven of 14 from the three point line. The Valkyries connected on 15 of 19 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 15 GRC turnovers. GRC shot 42.1% from the field including seven of 20 from beyond the arc. The Lady Cardinals connected on 13 of 17 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 11 Sacred Heart turnovers.

Tootie” Jordan led Sacred Heart with 28 points including 11 of 11 free throws, four rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. Za’Kiyah Johnson added 26 points including four three point baskets, nine rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots. Morgan Frey recorded 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots.

Kennedy Stamper led George Rogers Clark with 16 points including two three point baskets, eight rebounds, and two assists. Ciara Byars added 14 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. Kyleigh Chestnut recorded 13 points including three three point baskets, and three rebounds. Jaileen Green chipped in with 13 points including four of four free throws, and three rebounds. Teigh Yeast recorded eight points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Madison Central defeated the injury plagued Paul Laurence Dunbar by the score of 85-50. Madison Central shot 53.2% from the field including seven of 19 from the three point line. The Lady Indians connected on 12 of 16 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 40 points off 24 Dunbar turnovers. Dunbar shot 36.2% from the field including six of 17 from beyond the arc. The Lady Bulldogs connected on 10 of 12 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 11 Madison Central turnovers.

Cameryn Ridderikhoff led Madison Central with 30 points including four three point baskets, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Nataya Strader added 24 points including five of five free throws, three rebounds, and three assists. Brittany Campbell recorded seven points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and two steals. 5-6 Sr. Tiana Long chipped in with seven points, three rebounds, and two assists. Brooke Campbell recorded three points, nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Layla Flynn led Dunbar with 15 points including four of four free throws, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Kyah Curtsinger added seven points. 5-3 So. Lafayette trailed 26-22 at halftime but they outscored West Jessamine 13-5 in the third quarter on their way to a 52-44 victory. Lafayette shot 40.8% from the field including three of 15 from the three point line. The Lady Generals connected on nine of 16 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 10 points off nine West Jessamine turnovers. West Jessamine shot 30.8% from the field including five of 16 from beyond the arc. The Lady Colts connected on seven of 12 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored six points off six Lafayette turnovers.

Tess Nelsin led a balanced Lafayette scoring attack with 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Belle Combs added 12 points, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots. Madison Central coach Allen Feldhaus countered with 6-4 Jr. Christian Lawson, 6-2 Sr. Cody Morrison, 6-7 Jr. Jake Feldhaus, 5-8 Jr. Cam Steele, and 5-11 Jr. Will Richardson.

Lexington Catholic pulled away in the final quarter to defeat a cold shooting (28.3%) Madison Central team by the score of 53-41. The score was tied six times and there were seven lead changes in this game. Lexington Catholic shot 44.4% from the field including eight of 16 from the three point line. The Knights connected on five of five free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 15 Madison Central turnovers. Madison Central shot 28.3% from the field including five of 20 from beyond the arc. The Indians connected on 10 of 15 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored eight points off 14 Lexington Catholic turnovers.

Jacob Holland led Lexington Catholic with 16 points including four three point baskets, two rebounds, and two assists. Max Meagher added nine points and five rebounds. Hank Woodall recorded eight points. 6-7 Fr. Everett Stuart chipped in with six points on two three point baskets and two rebounds. Ryan Harward recorded two points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Jake Feldhaus led Madison Central with 13 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots. Christian Lawson added eight points, seven rebounds, three blocked shots, and two steals. North Laurel trailed 48-42 after three quarters but outscored Franklin County 21-9 in the final quarter to earn a 63-57 victory on the road. Brooke Nichelson led North Laurel with 33 points including four three point baskets, 11 of 12 free throws, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Mariella Claybrook added 21 points including seven of nine free throws, 10 rebounds, and two blocked shots. Bella Sizemore recorded nine points on three three point baskets and three rebounds.

Oldham County vs. Henry Clay

Oldham County coach Chris Renner started the following lineup: 6-2 8th Grade Ty Bryant, 6-0 Sr. Nolan Leite, 6-6 Sr. Henry Marcum, 5-10 Jr. Will Hinkle, and 5-11 Jr. Jeromey Harmon. Henry Clay coach Daniel Brown countered with 6-4 Jr. Jackson Stephan, 6-3 Sr. Kade Hilander, 6-5 Sr. Hassan Bush, 6-0 Sr. Kayson Brown, and 6-2 Sr. AJ Dixon.

Henry Clay defeated Oldham County by the score of 85-75. The score was tied four times and there were seven lead changes in the game. Henry Clay shot 51.7% from the field including 13 of 26 from the three point line. The Blue Devils connected on 10 of 12 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 30 points off 16 Oldham County turnovers. Oldham County shot 49.1% from the field including 12 of 25 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 11 of 15 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 14 Henry Clay turnovers.

Kayson Brown led Henry Clay with 21 points including five three point baskets, four rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Shelby County shot 38.2% from the field including three of 20 from beyond the arc. The Rockets connected on 13 of 14 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored six points off 12 Lafayette turnovers.

Drew Biddle led Lafayette with 20 points including three three point baskets, three rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots. KJ Jones added 17 points including nine of 10 free throws, five rebounds, and three assists. Tyler Hunt recorded 16 points, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots. Eli Thomas chipped in with 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists. 6-2 So. Ben Marsh added eight points and six rebounds.

Frederick Douglass trailed 35-27 at halftime but rallied after the intermission to earn a 70-58 victory over Harlan County. There were four lead changes and three ties in this game. Frederick Douglass shot 50% from the field including nine of 23 from the three point line. The Broncos connected on five of 11 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 11 Harlan County turnovers. Harlan County shot 37.7% from the field including eight of 24 from beyond the arc. The Black Bears connected on 10 of 13 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 12 Frederick Douglass turnovers.

DeMarcus Surratt led a balanced Frederick Douglass scoring attack with 17 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, and two assists. Tate Robinson added 15 points on five three point baskets and two rebounds. Aveion Chenault recorded 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Jaunte Jenkins chipped in with 12 points and four assists. 6-7 Jr. Nate Coen recorded four points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots. 6-2 Jr. Terry Cayson added five points and six rebounds.

Maddox Huff led Harlan County with 28 points including six three point baskets, six of seven free throws, nine rebounds, and two assists. Jaycee Carter added 14 points and seven rebounds. Trenton Cole recorded nine points including two three point baskets and two rebounds.
