2015 KBA KY 8^th Grade Girls Tournament

Kentucky Basketball Academy

There were thirty four teams entered in this tournament: Eastside, Dorton, Meyzeek, McCreary County, Northern Pulaski, Lebanon, Mt. Washington, Wolfe County, Southern Pulaski, Bernheim, Conway, Sebastian, Meece, Pikeville, Olmstead, Morgan County, Elkhorn, Owensboro Catholic, St. Charles, Madison Middle, JCTMS, Conner, West Carter, Campbell, Valley, Lincoln County, Johnson Traditional, Bourbon County, Old KY Home, Danville Bate, Clay County. Casey County, Woodford County, and Ashland.

 

I will give a brief recap of the Round of 16 tourney bracket played on Saturday and the Silver Bracket Finals and the Championship Bracket Finals played on Sunday.

 

Saturday  October 24^th (Round of 16 Tournament Play

 

Eastside 51  Lincoln County 28 – Emily Ezell and Catie Bacon led Eastside with 18 and nine points respectively.  Libby Renner led Lincoln County with nine points on three three point baskets.

 

Ashland 41  West Carter 31 – Julia Parker led Ashland with 23 points.  West Carter was paced by Becca Nolen, Kallee Burchett, and Sara Oppenheimer with 11, nine, and nine points respectively.

 

Conner 30  Meece 29 – Macey Burcham led Conner with 12 points.  Meece was led by Addy Bowling with 12 points.

 

Casey County 60  Mt. Washington 44 – Gena Cravens, Lauren Lee, and Natalie Duggins led Casey County with 17, 15, and 11 points respectively.  Mt. Washington was led by Lexi Taylor with 21 points.

 

Northern Pulaski 51  Pikeville 22 – Jordan Stephens led Northern Pulaski with 12 points.  Jenna Wood added 11 points including three three point baskets and Mady Dunn chipped in with nine points.  Pikeville was led by A. Gearheart with 15 points.

 

Valley 48  Dorton 38 – Taylor Newsom, Katelyn Adkins, and Cassidy Rowe led Valley with 13, 10, and 10 points respectively.  Jaden Edmonds led Dorton with 19 points.

 

Southern Pulaski 38  Olmstead 28 – Kennedy Harris and Regi Cundiff led Southern Pulaski with 21 and nine points respectively.  Paige VanZant led Olmstead with seven points.

 

 

JCTMS 44  Lebanon 33 – Alana Striverson, Shalia Mozee, and Erin Toller led the victors with 12, 11, and 10 points respectively.

 

Sunday October 25^th

 

Silver Bracket

 

West Carter 29  Lincoln County 24 (Quarterfinal) – Becca Nolen led West Carter with 16 points.  Trinity Shearer led Lincoln County with nine points.

 

Mt. Washington 37  Meece 31 (Quarterfinal) – Caroline Scott and Lexi Taylor led Mt. Washington with 14 and 12 points respectively.  Addy Bowling led Meece with 14 points.

 

Dorton 48  Pikeville 37 (Quarterfinal) – Tori Hampton, Jaden Edmonds, and Katelyn Bartley led Dorton with 11, 10, and 10 points respectively.  Pikeville was led by A. Gearheart with 17 points.

 

Olmstead won Lebanon forfeit (Quarterfinal)

 

Mt. Washington 51  West Carter 42 (Semifinal) – Lexi Taylor led Mt. Washington with 22 points including three three point baskets.  Kennedy Griffin added 11 points including three three point baskets.  Caroline Scott chipped in with 10 points.  Kara Back and Becca Nolen led West Carter with 11 and 10 points respectively. 

 

Dorton 48  Olmstead 25 (Semifinal) – Tori Hampton and Alyssa Newsom led Dorton with 16 and 13 points respectively.  Paige VanZant and Brea Croslin led Olmstead with six points each.

 

Mt. Washington 56  Dorton 55 (Championship) – Lexi Taylor scored off a rebound and hit a free throw to give Mt. Washington a 56-55 lead and Dorton missed two late free throws to end the game.  Lexi Taylor led the victors with 21 points.  Hayley Ranalli and Caroline Scott each scored 10 points.  Alyssa Newsom led Dorton with 20 points.  Jaden Edmonds and Kelsey Tackett added 13 and 11 points respectively.

 

Championship Bracket

 

Eastside 31  Ashland 20 (Quarterfinal) – Emily Ezell led Eastside with 15 points.  Julia Parker and Savannah Cade led Ashland with seven and six points respectively.

 

Casey County 56  Conner 40 (Quarterfinal) – Gena Cravens led Casey County with 19 points.  Mackenzie Cundiff, Lauren Lee, and Natalie Duggins added 10, nine, and nine points respectively.  Madison Drummonds and Emily Zurich led Conner with 12 and 11 points respectively.

 

Northern Pulaski 40  Valley 32 (Quarterfinal) – Jenna Wood led Northern Pulaski with 19 points including five three point baskets.  Shelby Cothron added nine points.  Cassidy Rowe led Valley with 15 points.

 

Southern Pulaski 50  JCTMS 30 (Quarterfinal) – Kennedy Harris, Alexa Smiddy, and Regi Cundiff led Southern Pulaski with 21, 13, and 12 points respectively.  Erin Toller led JCTMS with 13 points.

 

Northern Pulaski 41  Southern Pulaski 40 (Semifinal) – This game was an instant classic between two fierce inter county rivals with an unbelievable finish.  Northern Pulaski got a steal in the closing seconds by Haley Brock under the basket and she missed the shot but Kaylee Ridner rebounded and scored in the final second.  Jenna Wood led Northern Pulaski with 15 points including three three point baskets.  Shelby Cothron added 11 points.  Regi Cundiff, Kennedy Harris, and Alexa Smiddy led Southern Pulaski with 15, 11, and nine points respectively.

 

Casey County 56  Eastside 34 (Semifinal) – Gena Cravens, Lauren Lee, and Shayla Wilkey led Casey County with 14, 11, and 11 points respectively.  Catie Bacon led Eastside with 11 points.

 

Northern Pulaski 41  Casey County 36 (Championship) – Northern Pulaski raced out to a 25-9 halftime lead and survived a furious rally by Casey County to earn the victory and championship.  Jenna Wood led the victors with 17 points including 12 free throws and was named Tournament MVP.  Jordan Stephens and Shelby Cothron added 11 and 10 points respectively.  Natalie Duggins, Mackenzie Cundiff, and Shayla Wilkey led Casey County with 11, 8, and 7 points respectively.

 

This is just a brief recap of this tourney and I will have a complete write up of this event on my website at a later date.  This was a very well run event with quality teams and players.  The statistics mentioned here were hurriedly copied from the KBA stat sheets and I apologize in advance for any errors on my transcribing or any misspelled names.  A special thanks to the KBA staff for the hospitality extended me today.

Madison Southern 43 Anderson County 28 – Carter Smith carried the ball 13 times for 149 yards and two touchdowns to lead Madison Southern.

 

Lexington Catholic 28  Garrard County 16 – QB Kirk Fagot completed nine of 14 passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns to lead Lexington Catholic.

 

Danville 42  Lexington Christian Academy 7 – Stephen Ray carried the ball 12 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns and D’mauriae Vancleave ran for two touchdowns and a touchdown pass to lead Danville.

 

Franklin County 23  North Oldham 7 – DeMarcus Kennedy caught six passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Flyers.

 

Madison Central 38  George Rogers Clark 7 – Johan Williams carried the ball 12 times for 194 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Scott County 14  Paul Laurence Dunbar 7 – Noah Hughes led the Scott County offense with 95 yards on 17 carries.

 

Lafayette 29  Tates Creek 28 – Walker Wood carried the ball 19 times for 144 yards and four touchdowns to lead Lafayette to victory.  Tates Creek QB Peyton Burke completed 25 of 40 passes for 257 yards and three touchdowns.

 

Henry Clay 42  Bryan Station 28 – Joquise Buford carried the ball 29 times for 179 yards and two touchdowns to lead Henry Clay.  Bryan Station QB Andre Davis completed 16 of 30 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns, carried the ball 22 times for 81 yards and a touchdown, and scored on a 79 yard kickoff return.

 

Adair County 44  Hart County 15 – Chance Melton completed seven of 17 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns and carried the ball 10 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Apollo 49  Marshall County 10 – Brandon Alexander completed 10 of 15 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns and Rates Lewis caught seven passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Belfry 49  Pike County Central 16 – Xondre Willis carried the ball twice for 106 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Boyle County 52  Western Hills 20 – Cory Swanner carried the ball 23 times for 182 yards and two touchdowns to lead Boyle County.

 

Bowling Green 49  Greenwood 14 – Jamale Carothers ran for three touchdowns tonight.

 

Bullitt Central 28  Nelson County 8 – Cameron Dukes completed 20 of 37 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Central 49  Henry County 0 – Cory Johnson ran for 112 yards and three touchdowns.

 

Christian Academy of Louisville 56  Washington County 8 – Austin Carr completed seven of eight passes for 153 yards and four touchdowns.

McCracken County 57  Muhlenberg County 26 – Cash Jones completed 11 of 14 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Montgomery County 30  Woodford County 14 – Cody Parsley caught five passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Murray 59  Ballard Memorial 7 – Des Miles (nine carries 177 yards one touchdown), Andrew Pajor (nine carries 120 yards one touchdown), and Isiah Tucker (eight carries 95 yards and three touchdowns) led Murray to victory.

 

Paintsville 50  Raceland 7 – Kent Phelps carried the ball 12 times for 139 yards and three touchdowns and Kash Daniel recorded 11 tackles tonight.

 

Pikeville 57  Jenkins 6 – Daric Pugh carried the ball twice for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Powell County 75  Magoffin County 21 – Isaac Harrison carried the ball 14 times for 241 yards and three touchdowns and Justin Rogers added 209 yards and four touchdowns on eight carries.

 

Pulaski County 52  Southwestern 6 – Riley Hall completed 11 of 14 passes for 146 yards and one touchdown and Jake Johnson caught seven passes for 127 yards and a touchdown.

 

Russellville 46  Crittenden County 21 – Bryson Thomas carried the ball 16 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Shelby County 44  Collins 0 – Malik Manica ran for 210 yards and three touchdowns.

 

Simon Kenton 28  Ryle 7 – Cameron Racke completed 13 of 126 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score.

Eastern Kentucky University rolled up 549 yards of total offense in a 45-21 victory over Tennessee State.  Eastern Kentucky recorded 25 first downs and 549 yards of total offense.  The Colonels were penalized 12 times for 115 yards and had one pass intercepted.  Tennessee State recorded 20 first downs and 351 yards of total offense.  They were penalized seven times for 64 yards and had two passes intercepted.

Ethan Thomas led Eastern Kentucky’s ground game with 149 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.  Adam Lane carried the ball twice for 42 yards.  Bennie Coney added 38 yards and a touchdown on three carries.  Jared Sanders carried the ball nine times for 30 yards and a touchdown.  Bennie Coney completed 27 of 41 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.  Bryan Green caught nine passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns.  Devin Borders added five receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown.  Kiante Northington returned three punts for 53 yards with a long return of 38 yards.  Kobie Grace led the defense with eight solo and one assisted tackles.  Trey Thomas added five solo and four assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a six yard loss and one interception he returned for 28 yards.  Marquise Piton chipped in with five solo and two assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling six yards.  Noah Spence recorded four solo tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 12 yards.  Kiante Northington also intercepted a pass.

Erick Evans led Tennessee State’s ground game with 85 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.  Ronald Butler carried the ball nine times for 21 yards.  Ronald Butler completed 23 of 37 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.  Patrick Smith caught nine passes for 119 yards and a touchdown.  Sanders-McCollum added five receptions for 41 yards.  Quindell Cousin caught an 18 yard touchdown pass.  Ventavious Williams led the defense with three solo and five assisted tackles.  Laquarius Cook and Ebeneze Ogundeko each recorded five solo and two assisted tackles.  Javon Brandon intercepted a pass he returned 34 yards.

Danville defeated Lexington Christian Academy by a score of 41-7.  Danville recorded 11 first downs and 291 yards of total offense.  The Admirals were penalized three times for 35 yards and lost a fumble.  Lexington Christian Academy recorded 16 first downs and 266 yards of total offense.  The Eagles were penalized twice for 10 yards, lost two fumbles and had a pass intercepted.

Stephen Ray led Danville’s ground attack with 144 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries.  D’mauriae Vancleave carried the ball five times for 23 yards and two touchdowns.  Zach Dampier completed nine of 22 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown.  D’mauriae Vancleave caught two passes for 45 yards and a touchdown.  Tristan Coffey added four receptions for 41 yards.  Ellison Stanfield caught one pass for 32 yards.  Don Harris led the defense with five solo and seven assisted tackles and intercepted a pass.  Elijah Ford added three solo and nine assisted tackles.  Christian Hill recorded five solo and four assisted tackles.

Dillon Wheatley led Lexington Christian Academy’s ground game with 95 yards on 25 carries.  Brayden Miller completed 19 of 36 passes for 188 yards with one interception.  Ryan Stucky caught seven passes for 69 yards.  Caelan Lebryk added four receptions for 63 yards.  Clay Elliot led the defense with one solo and seven assisted tackles.  Brett Wilkins added two solo and four assisted tackles.

Franklin County defeated North Oldham by a score of 23-7.  Franklin County recorded 15 first downs and 267 yards of total offense.  The Flyers were penalized six times for 71 yards, lost a fumble and had a pass intercepted.  North Oldham recorded 13 first downs and 190 yards of total offense.  They were penalized twice for 27 yards, lost two fumbles and had a pass intercepted.

Denzell Vance led Franklin County’s ground game with 89 yards on 16 carries.  Barrett Sanderson completed 14 of 25 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  DeMarcus Kennedy caught six passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns.  Landon Hurst added two receptions for 38 yards.  Makale Marks also scored on a 31 yard punt return. Jhanny Rodriguez led the defense with eight solo tackles.  Zack Janca added seven solo and one assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a five yard loss.  Makale Marks recorded six solo and two assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 17 yards.

Adam Osborn led North Oldham’s ground game with 95 yards on 14 carries.  Wes Johnson carried the ball 14 times for 34 yards.  Bryce Webb completed three of seven passes for 12 yards.  TC Falkner completed two of five passes for 20 yards with one interception.  Harrison Stuart caught three passes for 22 yards.  Wes Johnson led the defense with 12 solo and one assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 12 yards.  John Reitnauer added six solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a nine yard loss and recovered a fumble.

Madison central rolled up 500 yards of total offense to hand George Rogers Clark their ninth defeat of the season by a score of 38-7.  Madison Central recorded 17 first downs and 500 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized seven times for 56 yards and lost a fumble.  George Rogers Clark recorded 12 first downs and 228 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized five times for 47 yards and had a pass intercepted.

Johan Williams led Madison Central’s ground game with 194 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.  Korrion Crier carried the ball six times for 54 yards.  Jaylin Powell added 44 yards on three carries.  Zach Hardin completed nine of 16 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns.  Keenan Miller caught three passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.  Jaylin Powell added three receptions for 15 yards.  John Williams added two receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown.  Tristan Moorehead led the defense with four solo and seven assisted tackles and intercepted a pass.  KJ Long added three solo and three assisted tackles.  Jared Grant chipped in with one solo and four assisted tackles with 1.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling nine yards. 

Josiah Israel led George Rogers Clark’s ground game with 131 yards on 18 carries.  Pearce Nisbet completed 11 of 27 passes for 76 yards with one interception.  Owen Irvin caught two passes for 47 yards.  Micah Israel returned five kickoffs for 103 yards with a long return of 34 yards.  Dada Knowles led the defense with three solo and four assisted tackles.  Ronte Owens added four solo tackles.  Jordan Connor recorded three solo and one assisted tackles scored on a 37 yard fumble recovery.

Scott County defeated Paul Laurence Dunbar 14-7 in a hard fought battle tonight.  Scott County recorded 12 first downs and 183 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized four times for 30 yards, lost a fumble and had a pass intercepted.  Paul Laurence Dunbar recorded 12 first downs and 186 yards of total offense.  The Bulldogs were penalized eight times for 53 yards and lost a fumble.

Noah Hughes led Scott County’s ground game with 95 yards on 17 carries.  Kendrick Hamilton carried the ball 10 times for 45 yards and a touchdown.  Simon Bond added 29 yards and a touchdown on five carries.  Josh Davis completed three of eight passes for 24 yards with one interception.  Glenn Covington caught four passes for 16 yards.  Trey Binder led the defense with eight solo tackles with five of his tackles resulting in losses totaling nine yards.  Dylan Smith and Cooper Robb added five solo and one assisted tackles each.  Gavin Hernandez recovered a fumble he recovered 47 yards.

Jefferson Harkless led Dunbar’s ground game with 145 yards on 29 carries.  DeRante Sanders carried the ball nine times for 36 yards.  Kendall Roberts completed three of five passes for 57 yards.  Dontell Brown caught two passes for 44 yards.  Dontell Brown led Dunbar with four solo and one assisted tackles and scored on a 72 yards fumble recovery.  Quinton Dixon and Isaiah Yeast each recorded four solo tackles.

Walker Wood’s fourth rushing touchdown tonight was the deciding score as Lafayette squeaked by Tates Creek in a 29-28 come-from-behind victory.  Lafayette clinched the number one seed in the district with their victory.  Lafayette recorded 19 first downs and 329 yards of total offense.  The Generals were penalized nine times for 63 yards, lost three fumbles and had a pass intercepted.  Tates Creek recorded 18 first downs and 283 yards of total offense.  The Commodores were penalized seven times for 43 yards, lost a fumble and had a pass intercepted.

Walker Wood led Lafayette’s ground attack with 144 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries.  Mason Alstatt carried the ball 15 times for 86 yards.  Walker Wood completed seven of 12 passes for 62 yards with one interception.  Quinten Brown caught three passes for 16 yards.  M. Guilfoil added two receptions for 41 yards.  Michael Clay led the defense with 10 solo tackles.  Ean Shaw added six solo tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 15 yards.  Cameron Morgan and Mason Alstatt each recorded four solo tackles.

Darryl Bell led Tates Creek’s ground game with 59 yards on 11 carries.  Peyton Burke completed 25 of 40 passes for 257 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.  Turner Gentry caught eight passes for 77 yards.  Laron Warner caught five passes for 15 yards.  Robbie Lofton added four receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown.  Darryl Bell caught three passes for 46 yards and a touchdown.  Conner Gibson recorded three receptions for 24 yards and a touchdown.  Xavier Johnson led the defense with eight solo and three assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling five yards.  Sakima Opsal added five solo and two assisted tackles and intercepted a pass he returned 21 yards.  Jerrod Martin chipped in with four solo and four assisted tackles.  DeShawn Locke, Darryl Bell, and Conner Gibson each recovered a fumble.

Henry Clay utilized their potent ground attack and two touchdowns on defense to defeat Bryan Station by a score of 42-28.  Bryan Station pulled to within one score 35-28 on a Andre Davis 79 yard kickoff return with 3:55 left in the game but Henry Clay added an insurance score on a 30 yard run by Austin Bledsoe with 1:16 on the clock.  Henry Clay recorded 18 first downs and 359 yards of total offense.  The Blue Devils were penalized 11 times for 86 yards, lost a fumble and had a pass intercepted.  Bryan Station recorded 23 first downs and 347 yards of total offense.  The Defenders were penalized twice for 21 yards, lost two fumbles and had three passes intercepted.

Joquise Buford led Henry Clay’s ground game with 179 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries.  Austin Bledsoe carried the ball 16 times for 82 yards and a touchdown.  CJ Tackett completed five of eight passes for 29 yards.  Marcus Tyler completed two of three passes for 32 yards and a touchdown with one interception.  Austin Bledsoe caught two passes for 23 yards and a touchdown.  Bry Berezowitz added two receptions for 10 yards.  Davonte Robinson led the defense with six solo and one assisted tackles and intercepted a pass he returned 54 yards.  Will Oreston added five solo and three assisted tackles.  Johnson-Sanders chipped in with four solo and two assisted tackles and scored on a 45 yard fumble recovery.  B. Irving recorded three solo and two assisted tackles with 3.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 21 yards and scored on a 75 yard fumble recovery

K-CI Carmichael led Bryan Station’s ground game with 83 yards on 10 carries.  Andre Davis carried the ball 22 times for 81 yards and a touchdown.  Bryan Station was hampered today by the absence of versatile performer Devon Key.  Andre Davis completed 16 of 30 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.  Rafael Few caught six passes for 84 yards.  K-CI Carmichael caught five passes for 43 yards and two touchdowns.  Andre Davis returned four kickoffs for 157 yards with a 79 yard return for a touchdown.  KE-I Carmichael led the defense with seven solo and five assisted tackles with 1.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling six yards.  Mahari Sturgis added seven solo tackles with one of his losses resulting in a seven yard loss and intercepted a pass.  Shane Preston recorded five solo and two assisted tackles with 1.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling nine yards.

Madison Southern captured their first district championship with a 43-28 victory over Anderson County.  Madison Southern recorded 15 first downs and 426 yards of total offense.  They were penalized six times for 90 yards and had two passes intercepted.  Anderson County recorded 12 first downs and 252 yards of total offense.  The Bearcats were penalized seven times for 67 yards, lost a fumble and had three passes intercepted. 

Carter Smith led Madison Southern’s ground game with 149 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries.  Payton Skidmore carried the ball eight times for 75 yards.  Landon Stacy added 53 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.  Nate Eads carried the ball six times for 31 yards and a touchdown.  Aaron Slone completed five of eight passes for 51 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions.  Landon Stacy completed his only pass for 39 yards and a touchdown.  Shaundez Goodloe caught two passes for 34 yards and a touchdown.  Hunter Richardson caught a 39 yard touchdown pass.  Carter Smith led the defense with four solo and three assisted tackles.  Logan Banks added four solo and two assisted tackles.  Hunter Richardson chipped in with three solo and one assisted tackles.  AJ Richardson, Shaundez Goodloe, and Zach Howard intercepted passes and Landon Stacy recovered a fumble.

Tyler Peters led Anderson County’s ground game with 32 yards on seven carries.  Brydon Labhart carried the ball seven times for 24 yards and a touchdown.  Gunner Gillis completed 13 of 24 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions.  John Paul Garmon caught eight passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.  Tyler Peters caught a seven yard touchdown pass.  Brydon Labhart led the defense with seven solo and three assisted tackles.  Bryce Edmonson added seven solo and two assisted tackles.  Caleb Boyles chipped in with six solo and two assisted tackles.  John Paul Garmon recorded three solo and one assisted tackles and intercepted two passes with a 70 yard interception return for a touchdown.
