Knott County Central vs. Fleming County

 

Knott County Central coach BB King started the following lineup: 6-3 Jr. Chance Cornett, 6-2 Jr. Simon Criston, 6-7 Jr. Evan Hall, 6-2 Sr. Keegan Sammons, and 6-2 Jr. Camron Justice.  Fleming County coach Mark Starns countered with 6-4 Sr. Troy Steward, 6-2 Sr. Brady Saunders, 6-4 Jr. Wilder Williams, 5-10 Sr. Bryson McKee, and 6-0 Sr. Austin Crisp.

Knott County Central defeated Fleming County by a score of 73-62.  Knott County Central led 34-15 in the first half but Fleming County rallied to take a 55-54 lead in the final quarter but Knott County Central went on an 11-0 run to regain control of the game.  Troy Steward almost single handedly turned the tide as he was on fire tonight with 47 points for Fleming County.

Knott County Central shot 62.8% from the field including three of six from the three point line.  The Patriots connected on 16 of 24 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored six points off seven Fleming County turnovers.  Fleming County shot 33.3% from the field including 11 of 24 from beyond the arc.  The Panthers connected on 15 of 20 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 11 Knott County Central turnovers.

Camron Justice led Knott County Central with 27 points including nine of 11 free throws.  Evan Hall added 22 points on 11 of 11 from the field, 10 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Chance Cornett recorded 20 points and 13 rebounds. 

Troy Steward led Fleming County with 47 points.  Steward was 13 of 23 from the field including nine of 15 from beyond the arc, and 12 of 14 free throws.

Cameron Thomas.  Perry County Central coach Shannon Hoskins countered with 6-3 Sr. John Toomer, 6-1 Sr. Tyler Fugate, 6-7 Sr. Justin Johnson, 5-11 So. Braxton Beverly, and 6-0 So. Matthew Turner.

Perry County central defeated Madison Central by a score of 73-62.  Perry County Central shot 58.7% from the field including five of nine from the three point line.  The Commodores connected on 14 of 22 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored seven points off seven Madison Central turnovers.  Madison Central shot 35.6% from the field including two of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Indians connected on eight of 14 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 17 Perry County Central turnovers.

Braxton Beverly led Perry County Central with 25 points including three three point baskets and seven assists.  Justin Johnson added 24 points, 14 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  6-4 Fr. Damon Tobler recorded 12 points and seven rebounds.  John Toomer chipped in with six points and eight rebounds.

Isaiah Johnson led Madison Central with 16 points.  Cameron Thomas added 14 points.  DeMarcus George recorded 10 points and 13 rebounds.  5-9 Sr. Coty Alexander also scored 10 points including two three point baskets.

Wayne County vs. Montgomery County

 

Wayne County coach Rodney Woods started the following lineup: 6-3 Jr. Peyton Woods, 6-1 So. Corey Stearns, 6-5 So. Nick Gillispie, 5-9 So. Trey Blevins, and 5-10 Sr. Jason Perkins.  Montgomery County coach Jason Holland countered with 6-4 Sr. Darius Jones, 6-3 Jr. Sam Hodgson, 6-6 Sr. Deante Cisero, 6-0 Sr. Blake Thomas, and 6-1 Sr. Bryan Wallace.

Montgomery County handed Wayne County their first defeat of the season by a score of 81-72.  Wayne County falls to 24-1 while Montgomery County improves to 22-1 for the season.  There were eight lead changes and six ties in the game.  Montgomery County shot 51.5% from the field including five of nine from the three point line.  The Indians connected on only eight of 21 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 17 Wayne County turnovers.  Montgomery County held a 17-1 advantage in second effort points.  Wayne County shot 44.9% from the field including seven of 25 from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals connected on 21 of 25 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored eight points off 11 Montgomery County turnovers.

Bryan Wallace led Montgomery County with 27 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.  Deante Cisero added 16 points and nine rebounds.  Darius Jones recorded 12 points and nine rebounds.  Blake Thomas chipped in with 11 points.

Trey Blevins led Wayne County with 26 points.  Peyton Woods added 21 points including five three point baskets and six rebounds.  Corey Stearns recorded 14 points and eight rebounds.

Hunter Cromer.  Henry Clay coach Daniel Brown countered with 6-3 Jr. Jeremiah Tisdale, 6-0 So. Isaiah Tisdale, 6-3 Jr. Colby Barnes, 5-9 Sr. Campbell Setzer, and 5-11 Jr. Felix Wilson.  Note: 6-6 Sr. Jordan Green was not available tonight.

Southwestern defeated Henry Clay by a score of 67-60.  Southwestern led 54-40 early in the final quarter but Henry Clay rallied to take a 60-59 before Southwestern closed the game with an 8-0 run.  There were seven lead changes and four ties in this game. Southwestern shot 52.3% from the field including three of eight from the three point line.  The Warriors connected on 18 of 22 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 12 Henry Clay turnovers.  Henry Clay shot 41.8% from the field including four of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Blue Devils connected on 10 of 20 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 18 Southwestern turnovers.

Dylan Gaskin led Southwestern with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Hunter Cromer added 13 points and Adam Isaacs chipped in with 12 points.  Steven Fitzgerald also reached double figures with 11 points.  6-3 8th grader Danny Butt added eight points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Jeremiah Tisdale led Henry Clay with 14 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.  Colby Barnes added 13 points.  Isaiah Tisdale chipped in with 10 points.  Felix Wilson recorded eight points.

North Laurel realized that they would have to defend Clay County’s potent inside game but the Lady Tigers came out bombing away from the outside connecting on 10 of 17 from beyond the arc in a 68-37 victory.  Clay County was 14 of 24 (58%) from 2-ppoint range and 10 of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Tigers connected on 10 of 19 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and committed three turnovers.  North Laurel was 10 of 35 (29%) from 2-point range and four of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Jaguars connected on five of 11 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and committed nine turnovers.

5-10 So. Kelli Roberts led Clay County with 28 points including eight three point baskets.  5-10 Sr. Sara Robinson added 15 points and 13 rebounds.  5-5 Jr. Ajaycia Cotton chipped in with 13 points.  6-0 Jr. Courtney Woods recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Sacred Heart Academy raced out to a 34-2 first quarter lead on their way to a 75-8 victory over Seneca.  Sacred Heart Academy shot 60.9% from the field including six of 11 from the three point line.  The Valkyries connected on 13 of 21 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 36 points off 28 Seneca turnovers.  Seneca shot 7.69% from the field including zero of eight from beyond the arc.  They were zero for 22 from the field in the second half.  The Lady Redhawks connected on two of eight free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and did not score off 14 Sacred Heart Academy turnovers.

Lydia Taylor led Sacred Heart with 10 points.  5-10 Jr. April Gahafer added eight points and seven rebounds.  5-10 So. Mary Singler also scored eight points.  Raven Merriweather chipped in with seven points.

 Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman started the following lineup: 6-5 Jr. Tanner Johnson, 6-3 Jr. Reese Ryan, 6-7 Sr. Robert Dence, 5-10 Jr. Michael Talbott, and 6-2 Jr. Jarod Griffin.  Lafayette coach Mike Mendenhall III countered with 6-6 So. Ross Jenkins, 6-4 Sr. Lance Blakley, 6-9 Sr. Jackson Davis, 5-10 So. Harrison Lane, and 5-11 Sr. Dequise Robinson.

Lexington Catholic claimed the district championship in a classic battle by a score of 83-80 in a double overtime thriller.  There were 10 lead changes and 12 ties in this game.  Jackson Davis hit a fall back three point bank shot in the closing second of regulation to tie the game at 61-61 and force overtime.  Lexington Catholic’s 5-10 So. Donovan Morris hit a three pointer at the buzzer to tie the score at 68-68 and force a second overtime.  Michael Talbott hit two insurance free throws in the closing second of the second overtime to ensure the victory.

Lexington Catholic shot 46.8% from the field including nine of 23 from the three point line.  The Knights connected on 16 of 24 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 19 Lafayette turnovers.  Lafayette shot 40% from the field including nine of 27 from beyond the arc.  The Generals connected on 15 of 23 free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 17 Lexington Catholic turnovers.

Tanner Johnson led Lexington Catholic with 24 points including four three point baskets, 13 rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and three steals.  Michael Talbott added 16 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Jarod Griffin also scored 16 points including four three point baskets  before leaving the game late with a wrist injury.  Reese Ryan chipped in with nine points and eight rebounds.  Robert Dence recorded nine points, five rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Donovan Morris came off the bench to add nine points and four steals.

Jackson Davis recorded a phenomenal performance tonight for Lafayette with 32 points, 31 rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Lance Blakley added 15 points including three three point baskets.  6-1 Jr. Lucky Jackson chipped in with 13 points and Harrison Lane recorded nine points on three three point baskets.

 Lafayette coach Allison Denton started the following lineup: 6-0 Sr. Sarah Cooley, 5-11 Jr. Dee Givens, 6-4 Jr. Ashanti Thomas, 5-8 Sr. Ken’yale Demus, and 5-11 Fr. Kiara Pankins.  Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Sarah Bridenbaugh countered with 5-10 Jr. Nicole Armstrong, 5-6 Jr. Kristina Rosen, 6-2 Sr. Brooke Todd, 5-4 So. Ezzy Ighodaro, and 5-4 Sr. ShaKeema Jackson.

Lafayette defeated Paul Laurence Dunbar by a score of 66-46.  Lafayette shot 44.9% from the field including two of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Generals connected on 12 of 20 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Paul Laurence Dunbar turnovers.  Paul Laurence Dunbar shot 30.9% from the field including four of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Bulldogs connected on eight of 17 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 16 Lafayette turnovers.

Dee Givens led Lafayette with 28 points including two three point baskets, 11 rebounds, and seven steals.  Kiara Pankins added 23 points including 11 of 12 free throws and eight rebounds.

Brooke Todd led Paul Laurence Dunbar with 18 points and 14 rebounds.  Ezzy Ighodaro added 10 points and six rebounds.  ShaKeema Jackson chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.
