Newport coach Rod Snapp started the following lineup: 6-7 Jr. James Turner, 6-4 Sr. DaShawn Anderson, 6-8 So. Griffin Starks, 5-11 Sr. Yamil Rondon, and 6-1 Sr. Amontae Lowe. Covington Catholic coach Jake Thelen countered with 6-1 Sr. Nolan Ruthsatz, 6-0 So. Teegan Stava, 6-7 Jr. Donovan Bradshaw, 5-11 Jr. Cash Harney, and 6-0 Jr. Athens McGillis.

Covington Catholic defeated Newport by the score of 47-43. The score was tied three times and there were three lead changes in the game. Covington Catholic shot 42.1% from the field including four of 16 from the three point line. The Colonels connected on 11 of 17 from the free throw line, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored nine points off nine Newport turnovers. Newport shot 30% from the field including one of 11 from beyond the arc. The Wildcats connected on 12 of 20 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored nine points off 13 Covington Catholic turnovers.

Athens McGillis led Covington Catholic with 15 points including three three point baskets, four of six free throws, two rebounds, and two assists. Cash Harney added 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists. Donovan Bradshaw recorded six points and eight rebounds. Nolan Ruthsatz chipped in with five points and three rebounds.

Yamil Rondon led Newport with 15 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. DaShawn Anderson added 12 points including four of five free throws and seven rebounds. Amontae Lowe recorded six points. James Turner chipped in with five points, seven rebounds, two blocked shots, and three steals.
