Lafayette coach Mike Mendenhall III started the following lineup: 6-1 Sr. Isaiah Romero, 6-0 Sr. Logan Taylor, 6-6 Sr. Abe Nelson, 5-11 Jayd Huynh, and 6-0 Sr. Javon Adams. Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Murray Gavin countered with 6-4 Sr. Zach Carter, 6-2 Jr. Max VanDyke, 6-8 Sr. Lionel Kumwimba, 5-11 Jr. Benjamin Haggard, and 6-1 Jr. Nick Spalding.
Lafayette raced out to a 20-7 first quarter lead but Paul Laurence Dunbar rallied for a 73-66 victory. The score was tied five times and there were five lead changes in the game. Dunbar shot 44.1% from the field including seven of 20 from the three point line. The Bulldogs connected on 14 of 19 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 28 points off 22 Lafayette turnovers. Lafayette shot 46.2% from the field including seven of 23 from beyond the arc. The Generals connected on 11 of 12 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 14 Dunbar turnovers.
Nick Spalding led Dunbar with 25 points including six of six free throws, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Max VanDyke added 24 points including four three point baskets, four of four free throws, five rebounds, and three steals. Zach Carter recorded eight points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, five assists, two blocked shots, and four steals.
Abe Nelson led Lafayette with 19 points including five of five free throws, six rebounds, and four blocked shots. Jayd Huynh added 19 points including four of four free throws, five assists, and five steals. Logan Taylor recorded 11 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Isaiah Ronero chipped in with 11 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
