Covington Catholic coach Scott Ruthsatz started the following lineup: 6-6 Jr. Chandler Starks, 6-1 So. Brady Hussey, 6-8 Sr. Mitchell Rylee, 5-11 Jr. Evan Ipsaro, and 6-1 Jr. Kascyl McGillis. Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Murray Gavin countered with 6-4 Sr. Zach Carter, 6-1 Jr. Max VanDyke, 6-8 Sr. Lionel Kumwimba, 5-10 So. Jaden Sweatt, and 6-1 Jr. Nick Spalding.
Paul Laurence Dunbar led 38-25 at halftime but Covington Catholic rallied in the second half to earn a 67-60 victory over the Bulldogs. Covington Catholic shot 53.8% from the field including seven of 20 from the three point line. The Colonels connected on 18 of 20 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and committed 13 turnovers. Dunbar shot 55% from the field including seven of 17 from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs connected on nine of 14 free throws, pulled down 14 rebounds, and committed 16 turnovers.
Evan Ipsaro led Covington Catholic with 32 points including three three point baskets, nine of nine free throws, three assists, and three steals. Kascyl McGillis added 12 points on four three point baskets. Mitchell Rylee recorded 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Brady Hussey chipped in with six points, seven rebounds, and two assists.
Nick Spalding led Dunbar with 16 points, five assists, and two steals. Max VanDyke added 14 points including two three point baskets, two assists, and two steals. Zach Carter recorded 12 points on four three point baskets. Lionel Kumwimba chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds.
