Morehead State University coach Preston Spradlin started the following lineup: 6-6 Jr. James Baker, 6-3 Sr. Djimon Henson, 6-8 Fr. Tyzhaun Claude, 5-11 Jr. Justin Thomas, and 6-0 Sr. Thomas Walker. Eastern Kentucky University coach AW Hamilton countered with 6-7 Fr. Michael Moreno, 6-3 Sr. Ty Taylor, 6-8 So. Tre King, 6-2 So. Mason Cooper, and 6-2 So. Jomaru Brown.
Eastern Kentucky survived a late rally to defeat Morehead State by the score of 80-76. The score was tied three times and there were six lead changes in the game. Eastern Kentucky shot 44.3% from the field including seven of 21 from the three point line. The Colonels connected on 19 of 22 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 17 Morehead State turnovers. Morehead State shot 49.1% from the field including six of 19 from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles connected on 14 of 18 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 10 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.
Jomaru Brown led Eastern Kentucky with 17 points including five of five free throws, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Ty Taylor added 16 points including two three point baskets, four of four free throws, and six rebounds. Michael Moreno recorded 14 points including two three point baskets, eight rebounds, and two steals. Tre King chipped in with 11 points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots. 6-0 Jr. Russhard Cruickshank and 6-2 Jr. Jacquess Hobbs each scored 10 points and Hobbs recorded four steals.
James Baker led Morehead state with 20 points including six of seven free throws, 10 rebounds, and one blocked shot. Jordan Walker added 17 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, two assists, and three steals. 6-4 Fr. Ta’lon Cooper recorded 14 points including two three point baskets and four of four free throws. Djimon Henson chipped in with 10 points. Justin Thomas recorded six points, six rebounds, and six assists.
