Eastern Kentucky University coach A.W. Hamilton started the following lineup: 6-8 Fr. Tre King, 6-2 Jr. Kelvin Robinson, 6-9 Sr. Nick Mayo, 5-10 Jr. Dujuanta Weaver, and 6-2 Fr. Jomaru Brown Murray State University coach Matt McMahon countered with 6-8 Sr. Brion Sanchious, 6-5 Fr. Tevin Brown, 6-9 Fr. KJ Williams, 63 So. Ja Morant, and 6-3 Sr. Shaq Buchanan.
Eastern Kentucky led 48-41 at halftime but Murray State stormed back in the second half to defeat the Colonels by a score of 97-85. Murray State shot 53.6% from the field including seven of 21 from the three point line. The Racers connected on 16 of 24 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 29 points off 19 Eastern Kentucky turnovers. Eastern Kentucky shot 44.8% from the field including six of 25 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 19 o 23 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 19 Murray state turnovers.
Ja Morant led Murray State with 34 points including two three point baskets, eight of 12 free throws, eight rebounds, and 10 assists. 6-8 Jr. Darnell Cowart added 16 points and six rebounds. Shaq Buchanan recorded 16 points, four rebounds, and six steals. Tevin Brown chipped in with 16 points and four assists. KJ Williams added 13 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocked shots.
Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky with 36 points including three three point baskets, 11 of 13 free throws and nine rebounds. Kelvin Robinson added 14 points and five rebounds. Jomaru Brown recorded 11 points, three rebounds, and three steals.
