Clay County took advantage of cold shooting and South Laurel’s foul woes to earn a 58-54 victory. South Laurel pulled within two; 56-54 late in the game and Amerah Steele’s three point attempt to take the lead hit the rim and Kaylee Mathis connected on two free throws with seconds remaining to ensure the victory. Clay County shot 40% from the field including four of 10 from the free throw line. The Lady Tigers connected on 20 of 29 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and committed 12 turnovers. South Laurel shot 34% from the field including six of 23 from beyond the arc. The Lady Cardinals connected on 10 of 16 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and committed 10 turnovers.
5-9 Sr. Summer Parker led Clay County with 19 points and 17 rebounds. 5-9 Jr. Kaylee Mathis added 19 points including eight of 10 free throws, five rebounds, and four assists. 5-8 Sr. Shelby Phillips recorded 15 points including three three point baskets.
5-6 Jr. Ally Collett led South Laurel with 25 points. 5-7 Jr. Amerah Steele and 5-6 Jr. Sydnie Hall added 10 and nine points respectively.
