Eastern Illinois coach Jay Spoonhour started the following lineup: 6-6 Sr. Ray Crossland, 6-4 Jr. JaJuan Starks, 6-9 Sr. Muusa Dama, 6-2 Fr. Mack Smith, and 6-2 Sr. Montell Goodwin.  Eastern Kentucky University coach Dan McHale countered with 6-6 So. DeAndre Dishman, 6-4 Fr. Dedric Boyd, 6-9 Jr. Nick Mayo, 5-10 So. DuJuanta Weaver, and 6-2 Fr. JacQuess Hobbs.

Eastern Illinois took a 15 point lead in the second half but had to withstand a furious rally by Eastern Kentucky to earn a 54-53 victory.  Eastern Kentucky had a chance in the final seconds but could not connect on a late second desperation shot.  Eastern Illinois shot 36.5% from the field including four of 14 from the three point line.  The Panthers connected on 12 of 18 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored four points off 12 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Eastern Kentucky shot 33.3% from the field including three of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on 14 of 21 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored four points off 14 Eastern Illinois turnovers.

Muusa Dama led Eastern Illinois with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Montell Goodwin added 15 points including six of seven free throws and six rebounds.  6-9 Jr. Aboubacar Diallo pulled down six rebounds and blocked three shots.

DeAndre Dishman led Eastern Kentucky with 12 points, nine rebounds, and two steals.  Nick Mayo added 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists.  DuJuanta Weaver chipped in with eight points.
