George Rogers Clark vs. Mason County (Girls)

10th Region Tournament (Championship)

Harrison County High School

Cynthiana, KY

March 4, 2017

This game will be discussed and argued about as long as girls’ basketball is played in this region.  George Rogers Clark defeated Mason County 56-53 in overtime but the high drama came at the end of regulation.  Mason County rallied from 1 41-29 deficit in the third quarter and actually took a 50-48 lead on a basket with Jordan Frodge with two minutes left on the clock.  GRC’s Kennedy Igo connected on two free throws to knot the score at 50-50 with 1:28 on the clock.  Mason County held the bal for the last shot and thought they had won on a basket by Briana McNutt at the horn.  However the celebration turned to dismay as the basket was waved off on a controversial traveling call with one second remaining in regulation.

The game went to overtime and George Rogers Clark took the lead and Mason County was never able to overtake the Lady Cardinals.  George Rogers Clark shot 53.3% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 12 of 16 free throws and pulled down 19 rebounds.  Mason County shot 33.3% from the field including four of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Royals connected on 17 of 21 free throws and pulled down 29 rebounds.

5-7 Fr. Kennedy Igo led GRC with 22 points including six of seven free throws.  5-9 Jr. Shemaya Behanan added 13 points and six rebounds.  5-10 So. Malaeha Bell chipped in with eight points.

5-9 Sr. Jordan Frodge led Mason County with 15 points including six of seven free throws.  5-9 Sr. Whitney O’Mara added 13 points.  5-5 Jr. AJ Reed chipped in with 11 points. 5-9 Sr. Briana McNutt recorded eight points and 10 rebounds.
