Sayre coach Robert Goodman started the following lineup: 6-3 Sr. Jake Duby, 5-7 Jr. Jayden Blanton, 6-2 Jr. RJ Smith, 5-7 Sr. Kaden Silvebburg, and 5-10 Sr. Robbie Goodman.  Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman countered with 6-5 Jr. Zan Payne, 6-3 Jr. TC Price, 6-7 Sr. Peter Whitman, 6-2 Sr. Blake Scott, and 6-3 Sr. Luke Johnson.

 

Sayre star Jake Duby was hampered by foul woes today and eventually fouled out and was limited to four points as Lexington Catholic defeated Sayre by a score of 68-47.  Lexington Catholic’s defense turned Sayre over 15 times and converted the miscues into 23 points.  The Knights also dominated in the paint by a 48-16 margin.  The score was tied twice and there were eight lead changes in the game.

 

Lexington Catholic shot 50.9% from the field including three of 18 from the three point line...  The Knights connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 15 Sayre turnovers.  Sayre shot 37.1% from the field including three of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Spartans connected on 18 of 24 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored two points off seven Lexington Catholic turnovers.

 

Zan Payne led Lexington Catholic with 18 points and four rebounds.  Luke Johnson added 12 points, five rebounds, and eight assists.  Peter Whitman recorded nine points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots.  5-9 So. Javen Hardin chipped in with nine points, four assists, and three steals. 

 

RJ Smith led Sayre with 11 points and four rebounds.  Kaden Silverburg added seven points.

The 11th Region regular season all region team and coach of the year selection was announced after the first semifinal game.  They were Zan Payne (Lexington Catholic), Keaston Brown (Henry Clay), Carter Hendrickson (Lexington Christian Academy), Justin Mitchell (Henry Clay), Michael Jefferson (Madison Southern), Isaiah Cozart (Madison Central), Cooper Robb (Scott County), Jake Duby (Sayre), Kyle Rode (Lexington Christian Academy), Luke Johnson (Lexington Catholic), Michael Moreno (Scott County), and Taveion Hollingsworth (Paul Laurence Dunbar).  The coach of the year was Robert Goodman (Sayre).
