Akron coach Jodi Kest started the following lineup: 6-1 Jr. Alli Ball, 5-11 Sr. Alex Ricketts, 6-1 Jr. Greta Burry, 5-4 Fr. Shaunay Edmonds, and 5-9 Sr. Hannah Plybon.  Eastern Kentucky University coach Chrissy Roberts countered with 5-11 So. Abby Wright, 5-11 Sr. Shavontae Naylor, 6-1 Sr. Jalen O’Bannon, 5-5 Sr. Mariah Massengill, and 5-8 Sr. Alexus Cooper.

 

Akron led by 10 points with five minutes left in the game but Eastern Kentucky rallied to cut it to a one possession game.  However Akron rallied one last time to hold on for a 63-57 victory.  Akron shot 38.9% from the field including five of 16 from the three point line.  The Zips connected on 16 of 24 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 17 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Eastern Kentucky shot 33.3% from the field including six of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on 11 of 16 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 18 Akron turnovers.

 

Hannah Plybon led Akron with 20 points including two three point baskets and four rebounds.  Shaunay Edmonds added 12 points including two three point baskets. Alex Ricketts recorded 10 points and six rebounds.  6-1 Fr. Caitlin Vari blocked four shots.

 

Alexus Cooper led Eastern Kentucky University with 19 points including five three point baskets and five rebounds.  Jalen O’Bannon added 14 points, six rebounds, and two steals.  Shavontae Naylor recorded nine points, 12 rebounds, and three assists.
