Lafayette coach Allison Denton started the following lineup: 6-0 Jr. Sarah Cooley, 5-11 So. Dee Givens, 6-4 So. Ashanti Thomas, 5-6 Jr. Megumi Nagahiro, and 5-6 Jr. Ken’yale Demus.  Tates Creek coach Tina Winn countered with 5-6 So. Haley Blackburn, 5-8 Sr. Dominique Etling-Turner, 5-9 Sr. Katie Pippen, 5-5 Sr. Lexi Whaley, and 5-6 Sr. Oney Harrison.

Lafayette defeated Tates Creek by a score of 66-45.  Tates Creek led 32-30 at halftime but Lafayette outscored the Lady Commodores 17-3 in the third quarter to take control of the game.  Lafayette’s Dee Givens triggered the comeback to start the third quarter by scoring the first eight points of the third quarter in 1:32 seconds to give Lafayette a 38-32 lead.  The Lafayette scoring run would go 17-0 before Tates Creek would score a free throw with 1:45 left in the quarter.

Lafayette shot 45.6% from the field including two of eight from the three point line.  The Lady Generals connected on 12 of 22 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 19 Tates Creek turnovers.  Tates Creek shot 39.5% from the field including five of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Commodores connected on six of 12 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored seven points off 16 Lafayette turnovers.

Sarah Cooley controlled the glass tonight and led Lafayette with 24 points and 19 rebounds.  Dee Givens added 15 points and five assists.  5-9 8th grade Kiara Pankins chipped in with 10 points.  Ashanti Thomas recorded seven points and eight rebounds.  Ken’yale Demus added seven points, four assists, and five steals.

Oney Harrison led Tates Creek with 17 points.  Katie Pippen added 13 points and six rebounds.  Dominique Etling-Turner chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.  Lexi Whaley recorded five points, five rebounds, and three steals.
