Sayre coach Ted Hall started the following lineup: 6-7 8th grader Dakari Johnson, 6-0 So. Reid Freeman, 6-6 Fr. Ray Brewer, 5-8 Jr. Griffin Miller, and 5-8 Fr. Mike Smith. Western hills coach Enoch Welch countered with 6-3 Jr. Jalen Clark, 6-2 Jr. Marcus Morris, 6-6 Sr. Dylan Curry, 6-0 Jr. Jordan Barrass, and 6-3 Sr. J.T. Riddle.
Western Hills held on down the stretch to defeat Sayre by a score of 63-61. Western Hills led 46-38 at the end of three quarters but Sayre rallied in the final quarter to tie the game at 61-61 on a three point basket by Griffin Patterson. Western Hills took the win on a field goal by J.T. Riddle in the closing seconds.
Western Hills shot 39.7% from the field including one of nine from the three point line. The Wolverines connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 22 Sayre turnovers. Sayre shot 42.6% from the field including two of eight from beyond the arc. The Spartans connected on 13 of 15 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 10 points off nine Western Hills turnovers.
J.T. Riddle led Western Hills with 26 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Jalen Clark added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Barrass recorded seven points and six assists.
Mike Smith led Sayre with 23 points, five rebounds, and five assists. 6-2 Jr. Griffin Patterson added 14 points and nine rebounds. Dakari Johnson recorded 12 points, 10 rebounds, and seven blocked shots.
