2018 ALL “A” Classic Basketball Championship (Boys)

Beechwood (Region 9) vs. Lynn Camp (Region 13)

 

Beechwood coach Erik Goetz started the following lineup: 6-4 Sr. Ben Toebbe, 6-0 Jr. CJ Brannen, 6-3 Jr. Duncan Baugh, 5-11 Jr. Mitchell Schilling, and 6-1 Fr. Scotty Draud.  Lynn Camp coach Dinky Phipps countered with 6-1 Sr. Jacob Bundy, 6-0 So. Max Burd, 6-2 So. Matt Disney, 5-10 Sr. Tanner Boggs, and 6-0 Jr. Joshua Overbay.

 

Beechwood raced out to a 17-6 first quarter lead and pulled away in the second half for a 72-39 victory over Lynn Camp.  Beechwood shot 62.8% from the field including five of 16 from the three point line.  The Tigers connected on 13 of 17 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 15 points off nine Lynn Camp turnovers.  Beechwood outscored Lynn Camp 42-12 in the paint.  Lynn Camp shot 28.9% from the field including three of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Wildcats connected on 14 of 22 free throws, pulled down 16 rebounds, and scored four points off 11 Beechwood turnovers.

 

Scotty Draud led Beechwood with 27 points including four three point baskets and five of six from the free throw line.  Ben Toebbe added 16 points including six of seven from the field and four of four free throws.  Duncan Baugh recorded 11 points and 11 rebounds.

 

Tanner Boggs led Lynn Camp with 11 points including seven of 12 free throws.  6-0 Jr. Scott Overbay II  also scored 11 points including two three point baskets.  Joshua Overbay added 10 points including six of eight free throws.

Owensboro Catholic led 25-22 at halftime but Knott County Central rallied for a 46-33 victory as Owensboro Catholic went cold in the second half only able to connect on three of 25 from the field after the intermission.  The score was tied three times and there were six lead changes in the game.  Knott County Central shot 39.1% from the field including five of 16 from the three point line.  The Patriots connected on five of eight free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored seven points off six Owensboro Catholic turnovers.  Owensboro Catholic shot 29.2% from the field including four of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Aces connected on one of four free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored nine points off 10 Knott County Central turnovers.

 

Isaac Caudill led Knott County Central with 12 points including two three point baskets, 10 rebounds, and three assists.  Khalil Slone added 11 points and four rebounds.  Kolton Hofsess recorded six points and 13 rebounds.

 

Luke Hayden led Owensboro Catholic with 14 points including two three point baskets and five rebounds.  6-4 Sr. Bailey Ballard added six points.  Maxwell Reid recorded five points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Lexington Christian Academy utilized their size advantage outscoring University Heights 52-18 in the paint in a 68-47 victory.  Lexington Christian Academy shot 54.4% from the field including three of 11 from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on three of 10 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 12 University Heights turnovers.  University Heights shot 33.9% from the field including eight of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Blazers connected on their only free throw, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 14 LCA turnovers.

 

Kyle Rode led LCA with 25 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists, and two steals.  Austin Hall added 15 points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Carter Hendricksen recorded 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

 

Dekeyvan Tandy led University Heights with 20 points including three three point baskets, four assists, and four steals.  Drew McGowan added 11 points including three three point baskets. Tacquan Hollowell pulled down eight rebounds.

Louisville Collegiate outscored Raceland 20-8 in the final quarter to pull away for a 53-39 victory.  Louisville Collegiate shot 37.2% from the field including four of 14 from the three point line.  The Titans connected on 17 of 27 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 16 Raceland turnovers.  Raceland shot 31.9% from the field including three of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Rams connected on six of 11 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored nine points off 16 Louisville Collegiate turnovers.

 

Chez Moore led Louisville Collegiate with 14 points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Will Stevens added 11 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals.  Nate Saettel recorded nine points and eight rebounds.

 

Travis Weaver led Raceland with 16 points including two three point baskets, eight rebounds, seven blocked shots, and three steals.  Rylie Potter added nine points, three rebounds, and two steals.  Octavious Hall dished out six assists.

Mayfield defeated Green County by a score of 65-50.  Mayfield shot 50% from the field including 12 of 26 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on five of 11 free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 18 Green County turnovers.  Green County shot 64.3% from the field including one of five from beyond the arc.  Green County only attempted 28 shots from the field compared to 48 for Mayfield.  The Dragons connected on 13 of 20 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 10 Mayfield turnovers.

 

Carson Guthrie led Mayfield with 19 points including three three point baskets, five rebounds, and seven assists.  Desean Jones added 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, and five steals.  Connor Guthrie recorded 11 points including three three point baskets.  5-8 Jr. Husten Lancaster chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets.

 

Zyler Bardin led Green County with 14 points and four rebounds.  Bobby Landis added 11 points.  Isaac Young recorded nine points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Hunter McCubbins chipped in with eight points, six rebounds, and two steals.

Somerset defeated Pikeville by a score of 67-62.  There were three ties and five lead changes in this game.  Somerset shot 42.3% from the field including eight of 20 from the three point line.  The Briar Jumpers connected on 15 of 20 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 12 Pikeville turnovers..  Pikeville shot 43.9% from the field including eight of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Panthers connected on four of seven free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored six points off 11 Somerset turnovers.

 

Jake Cothron led Somerset with 16 points including four three point baskets and three steals.  Trae Harmon added 14 points and nine rebounds.  Kross Grundy recorded 14 points including three three point baskets and seven rebounds.  Kade Grundy chipped in with eight points, four rebounds, and six assists.  Collin Hartmann also pulled down nine rebounds.

Zach Clinkenbeard led Walton-Verona with 11 points including two three point baskets and eight rebounds.  Kameron Pardee added 11 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  5-8 Sr. Curry Shazier recorded eight points including two three point baskets.  Brennan Stanley chipped in with three points, three rebounds, six assists, and five steals.

Clinton County defeated Robertson County by a score of 69-51.  Clinton County shot 49.1% from the field including three of 10 from the three point line.  The Bulldogs connected on 14 of 22 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 15 Robertson County turnovers.  Robertson County shot 41.2% from the field including five of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Black Devils connected on four of five free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored eight points off eight Clinton County turnovers.

 

Jackson Harlan led Clinton County with 31 points including two three point baskets, five rebounds, and three steals.  Seth Stockton added 15 points and 12 rebounds.  Chase Stines recorded 12 points including eight of 10 free throws, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Knott County Central pulled away in the second half to defeat Beechwood by a score of 51-33.  The score was tied three times and there were six lead changes in the game.  Knott County Central shot 51.6% from the field including five of eight from the three point line.  The Patriots connected on 14 of 17 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 14 points off nine Beechwood turnovers.  Beechwood shot 27.5% from the field including six of 23 from beyond the arc.  The Tigers connected on five of seven free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored five points off 14 Knott County Central turnovers.

 

Isaac Caudill led Knott County Central with 20 points including two three point baskets and five rebounds.  Branson Couch added 13 points.  Kolton Hofsess pulled down 12 rebounds.

Carter Hendricksen led LCA with 18 points including six of six free throws, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Kyle Rode added eight points, six rebounds, and seven assists.  Austin Hall recorded eight points and three rebounds.  Will Hacker chipped in with eight points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, and three steals.

 

Chez Moore led Louisville Collegiate with 15 points and five rebounds.  Nate Saettel added eight points including four of four free throws.  Ed Allen recorded four points, seven rebounds, and three steals.

Mayfield led by 19 early in the final quarter and survived a furious Somerset rally to earn a 68-64 victory.  Mayfield shot 52.2% from the field including six of 16 from the three point line.  The Tigers connected on 14 of 19 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Somerset turnovers.  Somerset shot 41% from the field including 12 of 35 from beyond the arc.  The Briar Jumpers connected on two of four free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 21 Mayfield turnovers.

 

Connor Guthrie led Mayfield with 21 points including four three point baskets, four rebounds, and three assists.  Carson Guthrie added 13 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists.  Trey Matthews chipped in with 11 points.  Desean Jones recorded nine points, six rebounds, and three assists.

 

Kross Grundy led Somerset with 19 points including five three point baskets, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  6-1 Sr. Josh Cornett added 13 points including three three point baskets, five rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Trae Harmon recorded 13 points and six rebounds.  Kade Grundy chipped in with 11 points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, and four assists.

Walton-Verona defeated Clinton County by a score of 57-33.  Walton-Verona shot 51.1% from the field including five of 17 from the three point line.  The Bearcats connected on six of 11 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 10 Clinton County turnovers.  Clinton County shot 32.4% from the field including two of nine from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on nine of 12 free throws, pulled own 21 rebounds, and scored six points off seven Walton-Verona turnovers.

Lexington Christian Academy coach Nate Valentine started the following lineup: 6-7 Sr. Carter Hendricksen, 6-7 Jr. Kyle Rode, 6-6 Sr. Austin Hall, 6-0 Jr. Pearce Dalton, and 6-2 Jr. Will Hackett.   Knott County Central coach BB King countered with 6-3 Jr. Branson Couch, 6-3 Jr. Gannon Couch, 6-2 Fr. Kolton Hofsess, 6-2 Jr. Khalil Slone, and 6-2 Sr. Isaac Caudill

 

Knott County Central led 28-24 at halftime but Lexington Christian Academy rallied in the second half to earn a 54-44 victory.  The score was tied three times and there were four lead changes in the game.  LCA shot 36.2% from the field including nine of 25 from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 11 of 13 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 14 Knott County Central turnovers.  Knott County Central shot 40.4% from the field including five of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Patriots connected on one of five free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored six points off seven LCA turnovers.

 

Kyle Rode led LCA with 17 points including 10 of 11 free throws, three rebounds, and three steals.  Carter Hendricksen added 11 points including two three point baskets, 15 rebounds, and four assists.  Austin Hall recorded nine points, six rebounds, and four assists.  Will Hacker chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets.

 

Isaac Caudill led Knott County Central with 12 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and two steals.  Kolton Hofsess added 10 points and nine rebounds.  Branson Couch recorded eight points, five rebounds, and two steals.

Walton-Verona led 22-21 at halftime and pulled away in the second half to earn a 56-38 victory over Mayfield.  The score was tied five times and there were three lead changes in the game.  Walton-Verona shot 39.1% from the field including four of 19 from the three point line.  The Bearcats connected on 16 of 20 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 13 points off eight Mayfield turnovers.  Mayfield shot 29.7% from the field including one of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Tigers connected on 15 of 16 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored four points off five Walton-Verona turnovers.

 

Brennan Stanley led Walton-Verona with 14 points including five of five free throws, five rebounds, and five assists.  Kameron Pardee added 10 points and eight rebounds.  Zach Clinkenbeard recorded eight points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and two blocked shots.  Austin Lay also scored eight points.

 

Trey Matthews led Mayfield with 11 points and four rebounds.  Desean Jones added eight points and four rebounds.  Carson Guthrie recorded six points and four rebounds.

Walton-Verona vs. Lexington Christian Academy (Championship)

Lexington Christian Academy defeated Walton-Verona 47-41 to capture the championship.  LCA led by 16 in the third quarter but Walton-Verona mounted a furious comeback to cut the lead to one; 39-38 with 2:05 remaining in the game before LCA pulled away in the final seconds for the victory.  Lexington Christian Academy shot 47.1% from the field including five of 14 from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on five of 14 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 14 points off eight Walton-Verona turnovers.  Walton-Verona shot 36.1% from the field including eight of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Bearcats connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 14 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 10 LCA turnovers.

 

Kyle Rode led LCA with 17 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Carter Hendrickson added 15 points and eight rebounds.  Pearce Dalton chipped in with seven points, three rebounds, and two assists.  Austin Hall recorded five points, six rebounds, and four assists.

 

Zach Clinkenbeard led Walton-Verona with 10 points including two three point baskets, four assists, and three steals.  5-11 Jr. Garrett Jones added nine points on three three point baskets.  Brennan Stanley recorded eight points including two three point baskets.
