The 19th Annual Rick Bolus’ High Potential®
Basketball Showcase Mini-Camp

July 14-15, 2016
Georgetown, KY

©2016 by Ron Harrison

INTRODUCTION

The 19th Annual Rick Bolus’ High Potential® Basketball Showcase Mini-Camp (Girls) was held in Georgetown, Kentucky at Georgetown College.

The camp director for this camp was Rick Bolus with 43 years of experience in the basketball business.  Rick Bolus started the Rick Bolus High Potential® Basketball Recruiting Service in 1973.  Mr. Bolus’ newsletters not only reach the desks of numerous college coaches nationwide, but also several all-star game directors.  He has also coached girls' basketball, conducted girls' camps, and ran women's coaching clinics over the years.

A camp report will be made available via internet to almost 2,000 women’s basketball college coaches in the United States in early August.  The camp features speakers on recruiting, academics, and basketball.  Each player participates in at least five games over the two-day period.  All players receive equal playing time as substitutions are done by the clock.  There are fundamentals stations, team practice sessions, optional competition contests, and a written evaluation from the camper's league coach.  The camp director is at camp both days observing each player's performance daily.  A doctor is on call at all times and a certified trainer is at camp around the clock.

There were one hundred thirty three players present at this camp.  There were players from Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Wisconsin, Missouri, Illinois, North Carolina, Georgia, West Virginia, and Colorado.  They were placed into two divisions, the North and the South which were both high school divisions.  The North Division consisted of Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, and Michigan.  The South Division consisted of Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin.  Each team will play five games with the overall champion and runner-up being determined by the best winning percentage.  Tie breakers if necessary will be determined by criteria set by the camp director.  The following is a list of players plus team designations.

The Rick Bolus' High Potential® “Blue-Chip” Basketball Camp® is not affiliated with any other basketball camp using the names “High Potential;” or “Blue-Chip”.

SUMMARY

5-5 Sr. Davenport Brantley George Washington Denver CO was named Camp MVP and is a strong PG who finishes at the rim.  5-10 Sr. Emmie Harris Boyle County Danville KY was named Camp Runner-Up MVP and is a versatile combo guard who shoots and finishes.  5-8 Jr. Cali Nolot North Harrison Ramsey IN was named Top Underclassman and a great all around talent.  5-10 Sr. Bairesha Gill Forest Trail Academy Kernersville NC possesses great athleticism and finishes well.  5-9 So. Paige Shy St. Joseph Catholic Huntington WV understands the game and is a great catch-and-shoot player with range.  5-7 Sr. Leah Middleton St. Pius X Atlanta GA is a PG with a high basketball IQ, strong, and skilled.  5-9 Sr. Rosemary Jackson Greenwood Bowling Green KY is a do-it-all guard with solid skills.  5-6 So. Savannah Wheeler Boyd County Ashland KY shooter with range and finishes in transition.  6-2 Jr. Kennedy Musselman Rochester IN is an excellent post player who punishes the opposition from horn to horn.  5-7 So. Jada Higgins Knott County Central Hindman KY is an athletic PG and a versatile scorer.

6-2 So. Curtshonna Cannon Lafayette Lexington KY is agile, has great size, and a very big upside.  5-7 So. Macy Rippy Rossview Clarksville TN is a cerebral PG who can “shake-and-bake” when necessary.  5-6 So. Aaliyah Hampton Christian County Hopkinsville KY is a hard-nosed slasher who finishes in traffic.  5-8 Sr. Valerie Johnson Fairdale KY is a defensive stopper who gets to the rim at will.  5-11 Fr. Anna Walker Bradley Central Cleveland TN is young, attacks the boards, and has good range on shot.  6-2 CF Carly Massey TBA Eau Claire WI is a wing with great size who scores and defends.  5-11 Sr. Lauren Goodrum Allatoona Acworth GA long wing player with skills.  6-0 So. Lauren Boblitt Anderson County Lawrenceburg KY is a long, lean youngster who played great in the paint on both ends of the court.  5-4 Jr. Mashayla Cecil Paul Laurence Dunbar Lexington KY is a savvy back court player who scores.  One of my personal favorites was 5-8 Sr. Alorra Sims Anderson County Lawrenceburg KY who absolutely wears you down on both ends of the court.  5-7 Fr. Shanice Thomas Fairdale KY is a young PG with a great upside.  5-7 So. Jaclynn Ruble Anderson County Lawrenceburg KY automatic from the field if left open.  Also, 5-5 Fr. Shelbi Wilson Lafayette Lexington KY is a solid guard who hasn’t scratched the surface of her unlimited potential.

I have just mentioned a few players here but I could have added twice as many players who impressed in this two day session and several of these will make an impression during the upcoming basketball season.

CONCLUSION

As mentioned before, a full camp report will be made available to almost 2,000 women’s basketball college coaches in early August by the camp director.  While the staff was well pleased with this year’s camp, every effort will be made to improve the camp to make future versions even better.
