Ashland Blazer (26-6) (Region 16) vs. Henderson County (27-2) (Region 2)

 

Ashland Blazer coach Bill Bradley started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Haley Sue Foutch, 5-5 Sr. Kaitlin Hammond, 5-11 Sr. Shelby Gransberry, 5-7 Fr. Mykasa Robinson, and 5-10 Sr. Alexis Robinson.  Henderson County coach Jeff Haile countered with 5-7 Sr. Callie Francis, 5-7 Sr. Maci Brown, 5-10 Sr. DeAsia Outlaw, 5-6 Sr. Kacie Wallace, and 5-4 So. Breanna Chester.

 

Henderson County defeated Ashland Blazer 59-55 to avenge a first round loss to Ashland Blazer in last years’ tournament.  Henderson County went on a 16-5 run in the third quarter to open up a 43-31 lead.  Ashland Blazer staged a comeback in the final quarter but could only trim the deficit to four points.  Henderson County shot 48.1% from the field including three of six from the three point line.  The Lady Colonels connected on six of 12 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and committed 12 turnovers.  Ashland Blazer shot 42.3% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Kittens connected on eight of 16 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and committed 14 turnovers.

 

Kacie Wallace led Henderson County with 19 points.  Callie Wallace added 16 points including two three point baskets.  DeAsia Outlaw recorded 14 points, four rebounds, six assists, and three steals.  Breanna Chester dished out nine assists.

 

Alexis Robinson led Ashland Blazer with 17 points and seven rebounds.  Haley Sue Foutch added 15 points and six rebounds.  Shelby Gransberry recorded 12 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Mykasa Robinson chipped in with 11 points and three steals.

Male outscored Mercy Academy 19-7 in the second quarter on their way to a 78-59 victory.  Male’s defense forced 25 turnovers, blocked 12 shots, and recorded nine steals.  Male shot 50% from the field including  four of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Bulldogs connected on 22 of 33 free throws, pulled down 52 rebounds, and committed 35 turnovers.  Mercy Academy’s defense forced 35 turnovers and recorded 18 steals.  Mercy shot 27% from the field including three of 27 from beyond the arc.  The Jaguars connected on 22 of 37 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and committed 25 turnovers.

 

I’Liyah Green led Male with 25 points, 14 rebounds, and nine blocked shots.  Green was 10 of 13 field goals and five of six free throws.  Emilia Sexton added 23 points including three three point baskets.  5-4 Fr. Ciaja Harbison recorded eight points, nine rebounds, and four assists.

 

Hannah Bewley led Mercy Academy with 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Jessica Laemmle added 12 points and five rebounds.  5-3 Jr. Maria Schmitz recorded nine points and six steals.

Covington Holy Cross outscored Bell County 15-3 in the final quarter to pull away for a 51-33 victory.  Holy Cross shot 43.5% from the field including three of 11 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on eight of eight free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 11 Bell County turnovers.  Bell County shot 29.5% from the field including four of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cats connected on three of five free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 10 points off seven Holy Cross turnovers.

 

Deja Turner led Holy Cross with 15 points and five rebounds.  Ally Mayhaus added 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Aleah Tucker recorded 10 points and five rebounds. 

 

Maci Morris led Bell County with 17 points and nine rebounds.  Jessica Sanders and Zoe Taylor each scored five points.

Elizabethtown dominated play tonight with a 79-38 victory over a young Mercer County team.  Elizabethtown shot 60.5% from the field including three of eight from the three point line.  The Lady Panthers connected on 24 of 29 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 15 Mercer County turnovers.  Mercer County shot 21.8% from the field including six of 29 from beyond the arc.  The Titans connected on eight of 15 free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 15 Elizabethtown turnovers.

 

Erin Boley led Elizabethtown with 24 points and nine rebounds.  Reauna Cleaver added 15 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Darien Huff recorded 13 points and five assists.  5-7 So. Jada Stinson chipped in with 12 points.

 

Seygan Robbins led Mercer County with 13 points and six rebounds.  Heidi Huffman added 11 points including three three point baskets.

Letcher County Central coach William Adams started the following lineup: 5-7 Sr. Kelly Adams, 5-6 Sr. Courtney Brock, 5-9 Sr. Kristina Bentley, 5-2 Sr. Cheyenne Stidham, and 5-4 Sr. Sara Baker.  Johnson Central coach Darrin Rice countered with 5-9 So. Lauryn Salyer, 5-8 Jr. Lauren DeLong, 5-9 Jr. Jayla Spurlock, 5-5 So. Micailyn Pierce, and 5-8 Jr. Bailey Daniel.

 

Bailey Daniel stole the ball and hit a layup with 5.5 seconds left on the clock to give Johnson Central a 62-60 victory over Letcher County Central.  Letcher County Central held an eight point lead in the second half but Johnson Central rallied for the victory.  Johnson Central shot 43.5% from the field including four of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on 18 of 22 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and committed 14 turnovers.  Letcher County Central shot 58.3% from the field including three of nine from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cougars connected on 15 of 21 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and committed 18 turnovers.

 

Bailey Daniel led Johnson Central with 26 points and five rebounds.  5-6 So. Ali May added 11 points.  Lauryn Salyer  chipped in with nine points.

 

Kristina Bentley led Letcher County Central with 25 points and five rebounds.  Bentley was nine of 11 from the field and seven of eight from the free throw line.  Cheyenne Stidham added 13 points and two blocked shots.  Courtney Brock also scored 13 points including two three point baskets.

Mason County raced out to a 20-9 first quarter lead on their way to a 63-43 victory over Muhlenberg County.  Mason County shot 46.5% from the field including five of nine from the three point line.  The Lady Royals connected on 18 of 23 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and committed six turnovers.  Muhlenberg County shot 44.1% from the field including five of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Mustangs connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and committed 17 turnovers.

 

Whitney O’Mara led a balanced Mason County attack with 14 points and five rebounds.  Jordan Frodge also scored 14 points including two three point baskets.  Maddie Boone added 10 points and five rebounds.  Brianna Littleton recorded 10 points and six assists.  Briana McNutt pulled down seven rebounds.  5-8 Fr. Kara Moran added nine points.

 

MaKayla Sampson led Muhlenberg County with 13 points.  Bailee Harney added 12 points including two three point baskets.

Allen County-Scottsville outscored Franklin County 15-2 in the second quarter on their way to a 52-32 victory.  Franklin County only managed eight points in the first half and shot 16.7% from the field before the intermission.  Allen County-Scottsville shot 42.1% from the field including one of eight from the three point line.  The Lady Patriots connected on 19 of 22 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 14 Franklin County turnovers.  Franklin County shot 22.8% from the field including zero of 17 from beyond the arc.  Franklin County attempted 19 more shots (57-38) from the field than Allen County-Scottsville.  The Lady Flyers connected on six of 12 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 24 Allen County-Scottsville turnovers.

 

Morgan Rich led Allen County-Scottsville with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Savannah Gregory added 13 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. 

 

Rebecca Cook led Franklin County with 10 points, three assists, and four steals.  Dasia Kilbourne added seven points and six assists.  Princess Stewart and Anna Arrastia each recorded six points.  Malaka Frank was visibly slowed by an injury she suffered in the regional tournament.

Graves County defeated Simon Kenton by a score of 52-43.  There were three lead changes and four tied scores in this game.  Graves County shot 33.3% from the field including five of 15 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on 23 of 26 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 10 points off nine Simon Kenton turnovers.  Simon Kenton shot 31.3% from the field including six of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Pioneers were a dismal seven of 22 from the free throw line, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 10 Graves County turnovers.

 

Bailey Hawkins led Graves County with 18 points and five rebounds.  Alyssa Barnard added 17 points including two three point baskets and seven rebounds.  Gracie Martin recorded six points and seven assists.

 

Allison Niece led Simon Kenton with 18 points including three three point baskets and five rebounds.  Maggi Bosse added 12 points and nine rebounds.  Kendyl Gilliam chipped in with eight points and four rebounds.  5-7 Fr. Megan Buckner pulled down seven rebounds.

Male defeated Henderson County 86-81 in an entertaining high scoring shoot out.  Male shot 51.7% from the field including three of six from the three point line.  The Lady Bulldogs connected on 21 of 26 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 16 Henderson County turnovers.  Henderson County shot 52.9% from the field including 10 of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Colonels connected on 17 of 25 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 19 Male turnovers.

 

Taylor Jackson led Male with 18 points.  I’Liyah Green added 16 points and 13 rebounds.  Emilia Sexton chipped in with 12 points.  5-9 Fr. India Green tallied 10 points in five minutes of clock time.  5-4 Fr. Ciaja Harbison recorded seven points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

 

Maci Brown led Henderson County with 26 points including eight three point baskets and three steals.  DeAsia Outlaw added 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots, and three steals.  Breanna Chester recorded eight points and seven rebounds and 5-7 Fr. A’Miya Hayden chipped in with nine points including seven of seven free throws and five rebounds.

Holy Cross’ Deja Turner hit an eight foot baseline runner with four seconds on the clock to upset Elizabethtown by a score of 41-40.  Holy Cross had led by eight points in the final quarter but Elizabethtown’s Reauna Cleaver had given her team a 40-39 lead on a traditional three point play with 22 seconds left on the clock.  There were nine lead changes and four ties in this game.

 

Holy Cross shot 35.1% from the field including three of seven from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 12 of 14 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 12 Elizabethtown turnovers.  Elizabethtown shot 33.3% from the field including one of five from beyond the arc.  The Lady Panthers connected on 15 of 20 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 10 Holy Cross turnovers.

 

Deja Turner led Holy Cross with 23 points including two three point baskets.  Aleah Tucker added seven points and six rebounds.  Ally Mayhaus recorded six points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.

Mason County defeated Johnson Central by a score of 52-34.  Mason County shot 40.5% from the field including three of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady royals connected on 15 of 18 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 16 Johnson Central turnovers.  Johnson Central shot 27.9% from the field including two of seven from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on eight of 14 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored four points off 11 Mason County turnovers.

 

Jordan Frodge led Mason County with 17 points including two three point baskets.  Briana McNutt added 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.  Maddie Boone recorded eight points and seven rebounds.  Whitney O’Mara chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.

 

5-6 So. Ali May led Johnson Central with 10 points and four rebounds.  Jayla Spurlock added eight points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Bailey Daniel recorded seven points and five rebounds.

Allen County-Scottsville 36-35 but scored the last four points of the game to defeat Graves County by a score of 39-36.  Allen County-Central held a 37-36 lead and Morgan Rich blocked a shot with 9.7 seconds left on the clock.  Rich was then fouled and hit two free throws to ensure the victory.  The score was tied three times and there were five lead changes in the game.

 

Allen County-Scottsville shot 25.7% from the field including one of seven from the three point line.  The Lady Patriots connected on 20 of 22 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored nine points off 11 Graves County turnovers.  Graves County shot 31% from the field including five of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on five of six free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored nine points off 12 Allen County-Scottsville turnovers.

 

Morgan Rich led Allen County-Scottsville with 13 points, six rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Holly Beth Robinson added eight points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Savannah Gregory recorded seven points, seven rebounds, and four steals.

Holy Cross led 19-18 at halftime and pulled away in the second half to earn a 47-37 victory over Male.  Holy Cross shot 36.6% from the field including one of six from the three point line.  The Lady Indians connected on 16 of 25 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored eight points off 11 Male turnovers.  Male shot 29.5% from the field including two of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Bulldogs connected on 28 rebounds, and scored four points off 11 Holy Cross turnovers.

 

Deja Turner led Holy Cross with 20 points.  Ally Mayhaus added 12 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Aleah Tucker recorded eight points on eight of eight free throws and six rebounds.

 

Emilia Sexton led Male with 12 points including two three point baskets and four rebounds.  I’Liyah Green added nine points, four rebounds, and three blocked shots.

Allen County-Scottsville vs. Mason County (Semifinal)

 

Allen County-Scottsville coach Brad Bonds started the following lineup: 5-10 8th  Grade Sarah Sutton, 5-11 Sr. Morgan Rich, 6-1 Sr. Holly Beth Robinson, 5-6 Jr. Jordan Brooks, and 5-8 Jr. Savannah Gregory.  Mason County coach Piper Lindsey countered with 5-9 So. Maddie Boone, 5-8 So. Briana McNutt, 5-8 So. Whitney O’Mara, 5-3 So. Brianna Littleton, and 5-6 So. Jordan Frodge

 

Allen County-Scottsville defeated Mason County by a score of 49-42.  Mason County fueled by five of six from beyond the arc led by a score of 27-21.  However Mason County went cold (17.4% from the field) in the second half and Allen County-Scottsville rallied for the victory.  The score was tied eight times and there were six lead changes in the game.

 

Allen County-Scottsville shot 35% from the field including one of five from the three point line.  The Lady Patriots connected on 20 of 28 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 14 Mason County turnovers.  Mason County shot 30.2% from the field including seven of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Royals connected on nine of 10 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 16 Allen County-Scottsville turnovers.

 

Savannah Gregory led Allen County-Scottsville with 15 points and nine rebounds.  Morgan Rich added 15 points and six rebounds.  Holly Beth Robinson recorded six points and six rebounds.  5-6 Sr. Ashley King chipped in with six points and four rebounds.

 

Maddie Boone led Mason County with nine points and six rebounds.  Jordan Frodge added eight points including two three point baskets.  Whitney O’Mara recorded seven points and four rebounds.  Brianna Littleton chipped in with six points on two three point baskets and four assists.  Briana McNutt added six points on two three point baskets and four rebounds.

Allen County-Scottsville vs. Covington Holy Cross (Championship)

 

Allen County-Scottsville coach Brad Bonds started the following lineup: 5-10 8th Grade Sarah Sutton 5-11 Sr. Morgan Rich, 6-1 Sr. Holly Robinson, 5-6 Jr. Jordan Brooks, and 5-8 Jr. Savannah Gregory.  Covington Holy Cross coach Kes Murphy countered with 5-10 Sr. Abby Hassert, 5-7 So. Aleah Tucker, 6-2 Sr. Ally Mayhaus, 5-7 Jr. Dajah McClendon, and 5-8 Sr. Deja Turner.

 

Abby Hassert scored a basket and free throw with 5.5 seconds remaining on the clock to give Covington Holy Cross a 35-32 victory over Allen County-Scottsville.  The score was tied 32-32 when Covington Holy Cross’ Dajah McClendon stole the ball and after a timeout Hassert found an opening down the lane for the winning score.  These were Hassert’s only points of the game.  Allen County-Scottsville had one more chance but a last second three point attempt missed the mark.  There were seven ties and six lead changes in the game.  Holy Cross also captured the All “A” Classic Championship earlier this year. 

 

The Lady Indians did not have an easy path as they defeated Bell County featuring Kentucky signee Maci Morris.  Next was a victory over tournament favorite Elizabethtown featuring two times Kentucky Gatorade Player of the year Erin Boley.  Their semifinal victory was over a very good Male team and captured the championship with a victory over Allen County-Scottsville led by Kentucky signee Morgan Rich.

Covington Holy Cross shot 48.4% from the field including two of four from the three point line.  The Lady Indians connected on three of five free throws, pulled down 14 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 12 Allen County-Scottsville turnovers.  Allen County-Scottsville shot 36.7% from the field including four of six from beyond the arc.  The Lady Patriots connected on six of 11 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored three points off seven Covington Holy Cross turnovers.

 

Deja Turner led Covington Holy Cross with 13 points and five rebounds.  Ally Mayhaus added 10 points and two blocked shots.  Dajah McClendon recorded five points, four assists, and two steals.

 

Morgan Rich led Allen County-Scottsville with 20 points including three three point baskets.  Savannah Gregory added five points and seven rebounds.  Holly Robinson pulled down seven rebounds and blocked two shots.
