Henderson County (Region 2) (24-5) vs. Ashland Blazer (Region 16) (24-8)

 

Henderson County coach Jeff Haile started the following lineup: 5-10 Fr. Alisha Owens, 5-6 Jr. Maci Brown, 6-0 Jr. DeAsia Outlaw, 5-4 So. Samantha Carter, and 5-4 Jr. Kacie Wallace.  Ashland Blazer coach Bill Bradley countered with 5-11 Jr. Haley Sue Foutch, 5-11 Jr. Shelby Gransberry, 5-10 Sr. Alex Young, 5-6 8th grader Mykassa Robinson, and 5-11 Jr. Alexis Robinson.

 

Ashland Blazer defeated Henderson County by a score of 56-48 in a game that had several momentum swings and was tied five times and had two lead changes.  Ashland led 12-4 after the first quarter but Henderson County rallied to lead 26-23 at halftime and extended the lead to 42-37 after three quarters.  Ashland rallied in the final quarter to outscore Henderson County 19-6 to earn a 56-48 victory.

 

Ashland Blazer shot 50% from the field including two of six from the three point line.  The Kittens connected on 16 of 25 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 16 Henderson County turnovers.  Henderson County shot 34.6% from the field including five of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Colonels connected on only seven of 18 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 17 Ashland Blazer turnovers.

 

Shelby Gransberry led Ashland Blazer with 24 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Gransberry was eight of 12 from the field and eight of eight from the free throw line.  Mykassa Robinson and Alexis Robinson added 11 and nine points respectively.  Haley Sue Foutch recorded seven points, nine rebounds, and four steals.

 

Kacie Wallace led Henderson County with 12 points including two three point baskets.  DeAsia Outlaw added 10 points and six rebounds.  Samantha Carter chipped in with nine points and four rebounds.  Maci Brown recorded six points on two three point baskets and four assists.

Danville utilized their quickness to pull away from a 38-38 tie late in the third quarter to defeat a determined Shelby Valley team by a score of 52-48.  Danville shot 43.6% from the field including three of nine from the three point line.  The Lady Admirals connected on 15 of 25 free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 17 Shelby Valley turnovers.  Shelby Valley shot 50% from the field including five of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Kats connected on five of nine free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored two points off six Danville turnovers.

 

Alyvia Walker led Danville with 15 points.  Essence Grey added 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists.  Cameron McPherson chipped in with 11 points.  Laken Grey recorded nine points.

 

Taylor Rowe led Shelby Valley with 15 points including three three point baskets.  Lakyn Mullins recorded eight points and five rebounds.  Savannah Honaker also scored eight points on four of four from the field.  Rachel Smith recorded six points, four rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Butler defeated Newport Central Catholic by a score of 54-52 in a game that was tied three times and had six lead changes.  Butler shot 36.7% from the field including seven of 15 from the three point line.  The Bearettes connected on 11 of 17 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 17 Newport Central Catholic turnovers.  Newport Central Catholic shot 47.8% from the field including two of eight from beyond the arc.  The Thoroughbreds connected on six of 16 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 14 Butler turnovers.

 

Danielle Lawrence led Butler with 19 points including two three point baskets, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  5-6 Fr. Tasia Jeffries added 11 points including two three point baskets.  Jaelynn Penn recorded nine points and seven rebounds.

 

Nicole Kiernan led Newport Central Catholic with 19 points, 15 rebounds, three blocked shots, and three steals.  Michaela Ware added 15 points.

Lafayette took advantage of Glasgow’s Shalika Smith’s early foul woes to lead 22-11 after the first quarter on their way to a 61-47 victory.  Lafayette shot 44.9% from the field including four of 10 from the three point line.  The Lady Generals connected on 13 of 15 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored seven points off 12 Glasgow turnovers.  Glasgow shot 36% from the field including four of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Scotties connected on seven of 14 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 11 Lafayette turnovers.

 

Kiara Pankins led Lafayette with 18 points including nine of 10 free throws.  Dee Givens added 15 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.  Ken’yale Demus also reached double figures with 10 points and three assists.  Ashanti Thomas recorded nine points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots. 

 

Breanna Glover led Glasgow with 20 points, seven rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Shalika Smith added 16 points and eight rebounds.

Marshall County coach Joseph Simmons started the following lineup: 5-10 Jr. Michaela Manley, 5-8 Sr. Allie York, 5-11 Jr. Alyssa Barnard, 5-6 Jr. Bailey Greer, and 5-6 Sr. Toni Fehrenbacher.  Perry County Central coach Randy Napier countered with 5-9 Jr. Perri Coots, 5-7 Sr. Lyndci Combs, 6-0 Sr. Kayla Rankin, 5-4 Jr. Whitney Evans, and 5-6 Sr. Elizabeth Gayheart.

 

Marshall County managed to contain Perry County Central star Kayla Rankin (28.4 ppg, 14.5 rpg) and control the boards (30-18) in a 54-38 victory.  Marshall County shot 48.6% from the field including five of nine from the three point line.  The Lady Marshals connected on 13 of 22 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 15 Perry County Central turnovers.  Perry County Central shot 38.9% from the field including two of eight from beyond the arc.  The Lady Commodores connected on eight of 13 free throws, pulled down 18 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 16 Marshall County turnovers.

 

Bailey Greer led Marshall County with 20 points and four steals.  Allie York added 16 points including two three point baskets and nine rebounds.

 

Kayla Rankin led Perry County Central with 11 points and eight rebounds.  Perri Coots added nine points and four rebounds.

George Rogers Clark utilized a potent inside-outside attack today to defeat a good Corbin squad by a score of 79-70.  George Rogers Clark shot a sizzling 61.9% from the field including 10 of17 from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 17 of 23 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 17 Corbin turnovers.  Corbin shot 48.2% from the field including seven of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Redhounds connected on nine of nine free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 20 George Rogers Clark turnovers.

 

Sandra Skinner led George Rogers Clark with 25 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots.  Skinner was nine of 11 from the field and seven of eight from the free throw line.  Lexxus Graham added 14 points including four three point baskets, four rebounds, and six assists.  Sydney Anderson also scored 14 points including two three point baskets.  Paige Taylor also reached double figures with 12 points including two three point baskets.  Maddie Hamlin recorded eight points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots.

 

Miranda Wilson led Corbin with 29 points including four three point baskets, four assists, and six steals.  5-7 So. Jaclyn Jewell added 13 points including two three point baskets.  Brooklyn Ashurst chipped in with 10 points.  Natalye Gallagher recorded eight points and seven rebounds.  Kayla Wilson added six points, six assists, and four steals.

Elizabethtown defeated Sacred Heart Academy 76-61 in a battle between two of the top teams in the state.  Elizabethtown shot 60% from the field in the first half to take a 37-24 lead at the intermission.  Sacred Heart rallied to close the margin to three; 48-45 before Elizabethtown pulled away for the victory.

 

Elizabethtown shot 56.3% from the field including three of five from the three point line.  The Lady Panthers connected on 19 of 28 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 13 Sacred Heart turnovers.  Sacred Heart shot 43.9% from the field including six of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Valkyries connected on five of nine free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 12 Elizabethtown turnovers.

 

Reauna Cleaver led a balanced Elizabethtown attack with 20 points, five rebounds, and four steals.  Erin Boley added 19 points including two three point baskets and 11 rebounds.  Rachel Warden chipped in with 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.  Livie Bowling recorded 11 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals.  Darien Huff also reached double figures with 10 points.

 

DaiJia Ruffin led Sacred Heart with 18 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Raven Merriweather added 16 points.  Gretchen Samsel chipped in with 12 points on four three point baskets.

Anderson County outscored Meade County 16-6 in the second quarter on their way to a 75-51 victory.  Anderson County shot 46.3% from the field including seven of 16 from the three point line.  The Lady Bearcats connected on 18 of 25 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 14 Meade County turnovers.  Meade County shot 38.5% from the field including four of 17 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Waves connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored nine points off 10 Anderson County turnovers.

 

Eriel McKee led Anderson County with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and three steals.  Makenzie Cann added 24 points including three three point baskets, five rebounds, two blocked shots, and three steals.

 

Addi Lynch led Meade County with 15 points and six rebounds.  Morgan Turner added 12 points, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Raley Johnson recorded 11 points and seven rebounds.

Danville vs. Ashland Blazer (Quarterfinal)

 

Danville coach Judie Mason started the following lineup: 5-5 Jr. Cameron McPherson, 5-4 Jr. Ne Ne Chenault, 5-4 Fr. Alyvia Walker, 5-5 Sr. Essence Grey, and 5-6 Sr. Laken Grey.  Ashland Blazer coach Bill Bradley countered with 5-11 Jr. Haley Sue Foutch, 5-11 Jr. Shelby Gransberry, 5-10 Sr. Alex Young, 5-6 8th grader Mykassa Robinson, and 5-11 Jr. Alexis Robinson.

 

Ashland Blazer went on a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to gain an advantage on their way to a 64-55 victory over Danville.  The score was tied three times and there were eight lead changes in the game. Danville attempted 30 more shots (66-36) from the field than Ashland Blazer and actually held a 38-29 advantage in rebounds over their taller opponent.

 

Ashland Blazer shot 52.8% from the field including four of nine from the three point line.  The Kittens connected on 22 of 30 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored two points off four Danville turnovers.  Danville shot 28.8% from the field including two of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Admirals connected on 15 of 21 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored nine points off 12 Ashland Blazer turnovers.

 

Haley Sue Foutch led Ashland Blazer with 19 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Mykassa Robinson added 18 points including two three point baskets and eight of eight free throws.  Alexis Robinson chipped in with 11 points.  Shelby Gransberry recorded seven points, six rebounds, and five blocked shots despite spraining her ankle in the first quarter.

 

Essence Grey led Danville with 25 points and seven rebounds.  Alyvia Walker added 15 points and Ne Ne Chenault pulled down eight rebounds.

Lafayette vs. Butler (Quarterfinal)

Butler’s defensive pressure allowed them to defeat Lafayette by a score of 62-50.  Lafayette led 20-18 late in the first half but Butler rallied to lead 28-22 at halftime.  Butler led 37-35 after three quarters but opened the final quarter with an 8-0 run to finally take the lead for good.  There were five lead changes and four ties in this game.

 

Butler shot 44.4% from the field including six of 14 from the three point line.  The Bearettes connected on 16 of 28 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 23 Lafayette turnovers.  Lafayette shot 39.1% from the field including two of nine from beyond the arc.  The Lady Generals connected on 12 of 21 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 14 Butler turnovers.

 

Danielle Lawrence led Butler with 23 points including 11 of 15 free throws, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals.  Jaelynn Penn added 17 points including three three point baskets.  Breia Torrens chipped in with nine points including two three point baskets.

George Rogers Clark defeated Marshall County by a score of 45-37 in a game that had three ties and three lead changes.  George Rogers Clark shot 53.6% from the field including four of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady cardinals connected on 11 of 15 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 11 Marshall County turnovers.  Marshall County shot 32.6% from the field including three of 14 from beyond the arc.  They attempted 15 more shots (43-28) from the field than George Rogers Clark.  The Lady Marshals connected on six of 14 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 19 GRC turnovers.

 

Sandra Skinner led George Rogers Clark with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Sydney Anderson added 11 points.  Lexxus Graham chipped in with nine points including two three point baskets.

This game was delayed for 25 minutes as a cloud of baby powder came on the floor from the Elizabethtown student section necessitating a court cleanup.  Elizabethtown raced out to an early lead once action started and captured a 58-37 decision over Anderson County.  Elizabethtown shot 47.8% from the field including two of six from the three point line.  The Lady Panthers connected on 12 of 13 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 12 points off nine Anderson County turnovers.  Anderson County shot 22.6% from the field including eight of 27 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Bearcats connected on five of six free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 16 Elizabethtown turnovers.

 

Erin Boley led Elizabethtown with 17 points and 14 rebounds.  Reauna Cleaver added 10 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Darien Huff chipped in with nine points and three steals.

 

Eriel McKee led Anderson County with 13 points, six rebounds, and four steals.  Destiny Stewart added nine points on three three point baskets.  Makenzie Cann recorded eight points including two three point baskets and pulled down seven rebounds.

Butler vs. Ashland Blazer (Semifinal)

 

Butler coach Larry Just started the following lineup: 5-10 Sr. Danielle Lawrence, 5-8 So. Allison Just, 5-11 Jr. Miah Casey, 5-1 Fr. Breia Torrens, and 5-6 Fr. Jaelynn Penn.  Ashland Blazer coach Bill Bradley countered with 5-11 Jr. Haley Sue Foutch, 5-11 Jr. Shelby Gransberry, 5-10 Sr. Alex Young, 5-6 8th grader Mykassa Robinson, and 5-11 Jr. Alexis Robinson.  (Note: Shelby Gransberry was limited to eight minutes due to an injury suffered in the Danville game).

 

Butler raced out to a 26-9 lead after the first quarter and maintained the advantage throughout the game in a 62-50 victory over Ashland Blazer.  Butler shot 57.9% from the field including 66.7% in the first half and seven of 11 from the three point line for the game.  The Bearettes connected on 11 of 17 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 11 Ashland Blazer turnovers.  Ashland Blazer shot 34.6% from the field including eight of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Kittens connected on six of 10 free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 16 Butler turnovers.

 

Danielle Lawrence led Butler with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.  Breia Torrens added 14 points including three three point baskets.  Allison Just chipped in with eight points including two three point baskets.  Jaelynn Penn recorded seven points and six rebounds.

 

Haley Sue Foutch led Ashland Blazer with 16 points.  Alex Young added nine points on three three point baskets.  Mykassa Robinson chipped in with eight points including two three point baskets and five assists.  Alexis Robinson recorded seven points and nine rebounds.

Elizabethtown outscored George Rogers Clark 24-12 in the second quarter on their way to a 71-56 victory over the Lady Cardinals.  Elizabethtown shot 45.5% from the field including six of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Panthers connected on 25 of 31 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 13 George Rogers Clark turnovers.  George Rogers Clark shot 46.5% from the field including 11 of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cardinals connected on five of seven free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored nine points off six Elizabethtown turnovers.

 

Erin Boley led Elizabethtown with 20 points and eight rebounds.  Darien Huff added 17 points including two three point baskets.  Rachel Warden chipped in with 15 points including three three point baskets.  Reauna Cleaver recorded 12 points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots.

 

Lexxus Graham led George Rogers Clark with 23 points including seven three point baskets.  Paige Taylor added 10 points including two three point baskets and five assists.  Sydney Anderson chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.  Sandra Skinner recorded eight points and six rebounds.

Jaelynn Penn. 

 

Butler raced out to a 20-9 first quarter lead and closed out the game on a 10-0 run to capture the championship with a 49-38 victory over Elizabethtown.  Elizabethtown was held scoreless the last 5:27 of the game.  Butler shot 36% from the field including six of 14 from the three point line.  The Bearettes connected on seven of 13 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 16 Elizabethtown turnovers.  Elizabethtown shot 30.2% from the field including two of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Panthers connected on 10 of 16 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored five points off 11 Butler turnovers.

 

Danielle Lawrence led Butler with 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and five steals.  Allison Just added 10 points including two three point baskets.  5-6 Fr. Tasia Jeffries chipped in with nine points including two three point baskets.

 

Erin Boley led Elizabethtown with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Darien Huff added eight points and Reauna Cleaver pulled down nine rebounds.
